It's ensloppification of cars. Why the fuck should a pseudoiPad determine whether or not i can drive and can't without it

Women love them, because all they do is stare into screens.
Women are responsible for 85% of new vehicle purchases in the US because they'd rather get a different car than pay for tires on their current car.
As long as women are allowed to acquire debt, this will continue and get worse.
(Women weren't allowed to get credit cards until the 1970s.)

Really the most blown out of proportion issue in the automotive industry in our lifetimes. It's one thing when there's literally only a screen like a Tesla or Volvo but too many people act like a touchscreen simply existing makes the car undriveable. In that Ram 1500 you still get independent physical controls for the AC, defrost, temp, fan speed, radio on, volume knob, including a mute button, headlights and foglights, vents, really everything you ever need to use while driving. At a point the bigger problem is why even have such a big touchscreen when in reality there's very very few things it actually CAN do.
>>
>>29101585
As long as the screen isn't taller than the cowling, then I will consider it. Low screens are tolerable, but I'd much prefer it be 2-DIN style, like in the new 86.
>>
>>29101411
I don't care. I'm not some adhd /o/ retard that needs to fondle the dashboard buttons every minute for some reason while driving.
>I need to take my eyes off to-
do fucking what? Control the volume every 30 seconds? Use your steering wheel button then like an actual driver
>>
>>29101411
Meh not that big a deal. Of course /o/ will disagree cause bus riders have this mentality of bitching about everything.
>>
>>29101411
I don't really care about how large screens are as long as climate control and volume/media control have their own buttons and knobs.
>>
I need less.

it's fine if the usual screen of a head unit (lets be real they havent been 7seg display shit in like 30 years) just happens to be touch capable, but a lot of cars really do just slam an chink android pad into the dash wherever it doesn't fit and call it a day

it's especially egregious on motorcycles. a lot of them LITERALLY just bolt a smartphone to the handlebars. fortnine did a review of some adventure bike from toyota or something and on that one it turned out that the HIGH RESOLUTION TFT TOUCH DISPLAY FOR MOTORBIKE PLEASURE was literally a Garmin bike computer/gps map thing put into a rugged shell

Correct. Screens don't dim at night like bulbs in traditional instruments do. So you've got the screen shining in your eyes ruining your night visibility. So to compensated the manufacturers put 45,000 lumen 6500k eyerape headlights in and that makes night driving suffering for everyone else.

They don't dim as low as bulbs do. So it's constantly shining at you. I had a vehicle with a factory full color touch screen and i had to keep something in the car to cover it at night because it only dimmed to half of what the gauges did.
And i see people all the time, they walk out to their vehicle at night in a parking lot and start it up and i can clearly see their illuminated face through the windshield because of the dash screens. Don't try to piss on my shoes and tell me it's raining
>>
>>29102203
Dude has never seen the screen off button so I guess you are just a larping neet
>>
I fucking hate them but the only way for me to get rid of it is to buy a motec
>>
>>29102218
Haven't driven too many nu-cars, but on the Cadillac and Lincoln I drove, there was no way to turn the screen off and keep the radio on.
>>
>>29101411
I saw a a YouTube TV app ad for a bronco sport, the most niggercattle of vhicles, the ad only stated how many empeegees its gets and the screen size. Thats all the normgroids care about and Ford knows it.

As a UX/UI designer they are absolutely idiotic and degenerate, they break every UX convention, no tactile feedback, moving targets, hidden functionality, poor visibility, riddled with mode errors, bad task frequency hierarchy, assumes constant user attention instead of as little as possible, there are absolutely zero saving graces about it and it all belongs in the Guinness book of retard records.

it's really wild how bad the experience of EVERYTHING has gotten. it's not even "enshittification", it costs them money to keep redesigning UIs to be so awful.

>>
>>29101411
if the screen is just nice looking and there are physical buttons for everything, and i mean everything, then yea. but of course there are like only a few trucks and suv's that do that
>>
I like that I can watch YouTube on mine with a blackbox (old!) while I’m driving across the country. I also enjoy the fact that mine is recessed into the dash. I really just don’t like the ones that look flimsy and attached instead of seemlessly part of the design. Also my toddler might rip it off the dash.
