John Deere vs Caterpillar
They don't overlap much. Deere is mostly agriculture. Cat is mostly construction.
>>29101867I think i've seen one of those big john deere pooper scoopers on a construction yard before. could be miss remembering.
>>29101854I can't afford gas for my truck. You think this is funny?
>>29101877you've spammed this same image across multiple threads that I am forced to give you reddit gold!

CaseIHJohn Deere's parts department is scammy as fuck... I do own some cat equipment, but haven't had to deal with getting parts much. Cat definitely makes some heavy duty shit, especially their older 70-80's stuff. Don't know much about the newer lighter duty electronics laden stuff.
>>29101897That reminds me, I haven’t started my IH Farmall Cub (‘63?) all year. Might be worth messing with this afternoon.
>>29101897>>29101897>John Deere's parts department is scammy as fuck..They're packed full of jeets, of course they are. They're also incredibly inept. It's a running joke as to how bad JD online parts manuals are, and it is not uncommon to get the right box, and the wrong part in the box.(t.JohnDeere mechanic)
>>29102048I've given up on getting parts through the local John Deere dealership. I'll just order it online if there is any way possible to look the fucking parts up. Their parts breakdown drawings are absolute dogshit as well... Just re-sealed a spool valve on a 410D backhoe and the drawing showed a seal, and an o-ring and backup ring. So I tore it down expecting to find an o-ring and backup ring in the bore of the spool valve, but lo and behold it was all just metal on metal and the only sealing was the seal on each end... They were rotten as fuck and of course John Deere wanted $25 a piece for them and I needed 10 of them to seal the entire valve up. Bought some similarly sized hydraulic seals off theoringstore.com for $5 a piece instead. Fuck you mother Deere. At least with CaseIH I can look up decent parts diagrams directly on their site and have a clue what the fuck I'm getting into.
Why do farmers complain about parts so much? Do they not know how to use the internet?
The only experience i have had with John Deere is purchasing a 150KW genset from SDMO in france and all mechanical 6068 in it. Got that in 2018
>>29101897Modern cat engines smaller than 14L are something other than cat
>>29102310YEAH BUDDY
>>29102305No kidding, I have a pic from a JD manual that was supposed to be a diagrammatic of a light tractor hydrostat transaxle, showing the location of all the myriad of sensors they like to stick in the things. The image they used is of a Yanmar diesel engine.Yeah, the end seals for the spools on the backhoes are urethane IIRC and they fucking begin to rot from the second they pop out of the mold. What usually kills them though is people putting thread tape on the hose fittings, and bits of the teflon tape getting into the works.I usually tell people to hit up Motion Industries or Bearing-Belt&Chain if they seem like they know what they are doing, but a huge majority of our customers are challenged to change a light bulb. (No Fucking Kidding)>>29102313>Do they not know how to use the internet? No, not really. A lot of the troubles I see are from simple lack of maintenance, so if they can't be bothered to do things like "Check the fucking oil" then I'd imagine a cheap HP laptop would be tied to a stake in the yard and burned as an agent of Satan.
>>29102310>>29102521Perkins mills are fucking fantastic if you make absolutely sure they always get clean air. They do not suffer dusting well.Their Tier 4 stuff is kind of grim though.
>>29102313>Why do farmers complain about parts so much?if you think it is bad for cars you can quadruple that for essential machinery. If a part can be made on a lathe, having it manufactured in next town is most of the time 10x cheaper than buying the spare. The only parts you can sometimes score a deal on are OEM parts where they didnt bother removing the parts number
>>29101854I used to do parts for agco, claas, and cat. Claas was the worst by far out of the three. The only issues i had with cat related to either a)the customer not having the correct information so i can look up stuff, or b)we were only cat for agricultural stuff because a different company was the cat full line dealer for the state
>>29101854Oh deeres are absolute trash. They are older design hitachis only worse and their tractors are predatory trash that dont allow you to service them.
>>29101854New Holland
>>29104670What, you're not absolutely enchanted by J-D's use of an eclectic mix of BSPP, ORF, ORB and NPT fittings in their hydraulic systems?
>>29104681Is that why they have less breakout force in the hydraulics than a komatsu?
In pic related guess what machine is the lemon and works for about 2 days before breaking down
>>29101897The xe machines are fucking epic. More power than any of the older models and instead of gears they are just hypothetical, you can dig into a raw face in top gear and it doesnt matter max breakout force. And that comes with instant full power on the hydraulics without having to rev the machine up. Pic related uses 30l/hour of diesel vs 50+l/h for older models. That alone pays for the machine in 10 years and the electric drive comes with a 20,000 hour warranty. Cat has really upped their game they are actually a competitive choice against Volvo's now.As far as John deere is concerned just buy a komatsu.
>>29104683I'd guess, when they aren't leaking like a golf-course fairway sprinkler.(t. Lv3/M John Deere tech)
>>29102313you only have so much time to harvest a crop before it gets too old to sell at a profit, or goes rotten altogether.downtime waiting for internet parts is downtime costing money. not to mention tractor parts have as much if not more DRM than Apple products so you have to tow your equipment to an approved mechanic instead of being able to fix it yourself.
>>29105225Depending on the part, it has to be "registered" with an onboard ECU/VCU for it to even work. The EPA mandated bullshit for Diesels has been the main impetus for this bullshit.Pretty much everything outside of emissions controls or fuel scheduling you can basically bypass (Dumb, non 'bus' shit like OPD switch or Neutral safety switch). But anything emissions related? Yeah, that shit is under layers of fuckery. to the point that there are registerable serial numbers for DPF's that are required to "activate" the fuckign things. The slime are pushing this shit for the home user grade stuff as well. You'll eventually see it in stuff like handheld hedge trimmers and string-trimmers, unless you buy "electric" and god help you with that flavor of fuckery because it is all built to fail bullshit.
Ferguson
>>29105329if it sits on the ecu you are propably fucked just like on a car.If it just sits on the canbus its whatever. Is this a deere thing of exhausts just exploding btw? Because i can say an engine or gearbox blowing up on a modern tractor is quite rare around here and across all makes.
>>29101854Deere for agriculture. Cat for construction
