Is this the most overrated road on social media?
Besides being the USA's only decent road, what does it have to offer?
>>
>>29102659
Good place to get killed by some truck retard going to wide in turn.
>>
>>29102659
>being the USA's only decent road,
Lol.
Yes its overrated but my drive to work in SoCal was more impressive than that thing.
>>
There's some pretty things to see in the adjacent nantahala national forest, the smokies do have some extremely curvy winding roads, the road tracing the nantahala river downhill from wayah bald was really pretty and the cherohala skyway is nice its too bad they were gonna route the skyway through what is now wilderness so to get any sort of view in the wilderness you have to hike 6 mi minimum

>>29102660
central pa is also a great place for that they have some highways well I dunno if highways is the right word - secondary roads but paved that go up steep mountains and have sweeper turns with blind curves set at an incline nearly smashed into a big truck on one of those a few years ago - beautiful in mid/late october though
>>
>>29102659
random side roads in california mog this, without any of the hype or traffic
>>
Based Harley rider mogs sportbike crotch rocket dicklet.
>>

I personally prefer the lush trees and hills of appalachia to the scrubland of socal

northern California mogs little east coast twig trees and baby hills
>>
>>29102659
>Besides being the USA's only decent road
I know itโ€™s b8 but Iโ€™ll bite
damn near every state has better roads than this. maybe not rhode island, florida, or kansas
>>
>>29102659
>what does it have to offer?
Traffic, cops, crashes, backups....
>>
>>29102704
I do want to see the redwoods, but I don't know how tolerant they are of traffic hooliganism up there.
>>
its a nice road in the area.
fun fact, ive been on it at least a dozen times and ive NEVER hit traffic. maybe one or two boomers who pull over for me.

last time i was there i cooked my brakes going hard into every corner. engine braked the rest of the course which allowed the brakes to cool down
>>
>>29102659
Every road in England is like that. Had some of the on a strait line between Rochdale and Halifax today. I just took it to be the norm.
>>
>>29102942
The straight bits are the Romans fault. :)
>>
>>29102890
Just use both lanes to slow down, like everyone else
>>
>>29102659
would like to ride it just to see how overrated it is. then again I'm spoiled for twisties in Australia. and that's saying something considering 90% of our roads are just long straights that cut through the desert.
>>
there are better roads than TOTD in most states bordering NC, and some states bordering those states, and in california. TOTD is just the most well known. hell, there are roads directly connected TO THAT ROAD that are better. sometimes I think the only reason people go there specifically is to be observed driving more than driving itself.
>>
If you can get a clean run, especially on a motorcycle, it is pretty great. But it's also been something that's been so blown up, police presence is magnified and traffic is insane. Go in the morning on a Tuesday.
>>29102737
You know all those states in the middle? Most of them don't have shit.
>>
>>29102672
Same with Connecticut.
>>
>>29103291
connecticut is a more stuck up version of new jersey full of people who think they've made it
>>
Only people talking shit about this road do not comprehend the sheer number of turns and altering elevation.
>>
>>29103440
honestly the road from franklin, nc to highlands was worse I don't actually think I've done the specific tail of the dragon road, but I've done lots of the adjacent ones and I get the idea, but the cullasaja gorge was a very annoying drive

Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway, or if you need a specific part then Iron Mountain Road. Just don't go during Sturgis.
>>
>>29103440
people only glaze this road because they're unable or unwilling to look for others. that's you!
>>
>>29102659
are there still a lot of cops at midnight or during the witching hours?
>>
Lexington Turnpike (60) in VA is great, so long as you're not behind some pussy who can't do the speed limit. It's one of those roads which is actually fun at the speed limit.
>>
>>29102693
SoCal has multiple biomes.
Mount Laguna summit is at 6,273 feet and is about 50 miles from the Pacific Ocean.
Theres a nice lake at the campground and it shows in the winter.

Sure, it's just not that familiar lushness that I like, and scrubland can still have trees and forests. The PNW is more my speed.

btw do you motherfuckers like maps?

You in part inspired my ongoing project, which I'm hoping will retain the flavor while being a little smaller, lighter, and with a 5-speed.

Had an incredibly clean LTD Crown Vic for a while as her daily. Sold it after it popped a coolant hose on the commute and blew the head gaskets. Guy who bought it fixed it no problem and I used to see it driving around.

Have always missed it though, there was something about it. Once I was in a situation where I could have a project car I settled on the Zephyr because it has a similar look but the entire drivetrain and suspension is compatible with the Fox body aftermarket. It doesn't have the comfort or the build quality of the LTDs but I was really craving a manual. Just love the old 3-box squared off sedans.

Just go to a race track.
Muh "twisty roads" is a joke for Poor fags .
>>
>>29104035
revolting amount of screens and lights
>>
>>29102659
I like it because it's a 40 minute ride from my house to the north end, so I can go ride wherever I want. It's like a little free track that anyone can use.
>>
>>29104125
I barely saw anyone, it was around 10:30 to 11pm
>>29104136
one thing I wanna recommend, a wiring harness to run your headlights off of a set of relays straight from the battery, it helped my box a lot.
that, combined with some glass housings that accept H4 bulbs, mean the headlights on my LTD beat anything else I've ever driven!
>>29104322
>GPS
>Dashcam
>Radio
>Vent Temp Readout
it's really not that much
>>
>>29103607
The Black hills and the Ozarks are the exception.
>>
>>29102659
There are like ten touge right next to tail that are better. Pisgah for one. Little switzerland and huckleberry knob.
>>
>>29102661
Tail wishes it was as good as the combined up and down of palomars east and south grades.
>>
>>29105662
East grade is mid and to pretend otherwise is foolish. South grade is pretty cool.
>>
>>29105386
>wiring harness to run your headlights off
mandatory upgrade for any classic car tee bee aytch. lots of benefits, one of them being the car being much less likely to burn down from overloaded wiring
>>
>>29105662
>>29105720
Theres so many random roads in SoCal that are better.
Hell, PCH is a fucking blast
>>
>>29104035
I'd rather blow my own head smoov off than drive that vehicle at night
>>
>>29107604
PCH is filled with RVs constantly and only fun in some sections. The Dragon is pretty hard to beat in terms of density of good corners. I've ridden both.
>>
>>29107614
>I've ridden both.
Pacific Coast Highway is 656 miles long.
>>
>>29107638
And when most people talk about PCH being fun, they're talking about 5-15 mile stretches in midcal/norcal.
>>
TOTD is legitimately hard to beat if you go there during a low traffic time. There are other great roads in the area though, and there are roads that are just as good in CA, especially Norcal, but the more popular ones are just as polluted by tourists and retards as TOTD. About a month ago I almost got smoked head on by some fucking dipshit in a 911 who decided to take a racing line across my lane when I was driving Mosquito Ridge Rd.
>>
Yeah it's the only good road on the entire east coast, Appalachia doesn't have hundreds of comparable roads anywhere, and if it's not on social media then it doesn't exist.
