>Well you found me. Congratulations... Was it worth it?
>>29102720Still better than in the bellhousing.
packaging engineers should be hung. hire mexicans.
>>29102720I'll take this over the Honda R18 starter I did yesterday on the backside of the engine from underneath the car, which you have to snake through the tiny gaps between the subframe, engine, and body that they had let oil and power steering fluid leak all over everything for 200,000 miles so you can't grip anything, and come out the other side covered, arms black as night which then doesn't want to wash off despite scrubbing and scrubbing with the good hand cleaner
>>29103092I have a R18 2009 Civic. kek. Can't wait to do the job when it fails.
>>29102729They should put it IN the tramsission with a jackshaft instead
>>29102720This shit is diabolical
>>29103121Not as diabolical as changing a timing chain or chain tensioner on an Audi V8. This is peanuts compared to that.
>>29102720sick hot vee bro
Is it really that difficulty to remove the intake manifold
>>29103196No. But it is still enough reason to avoid søƴota.
>>29103092I did that job a couple months ago. You either need a zero point ratchet with the smallest hands known to man, or 3 feet of extensions and a lot of hope. If it ever dies again I'm just wrecking the damn car
>>29102720skill issue
>>29103186Not as diabolical as Ford putting only ONE chain in the rear of the OHC Cologne.
>>29103109buy a knock sensor when you do as well...there's a good chance you'll break that trying to get the starter out lol
>>29103380This, especially on Honda K24 if you're doing as starter motor with that stupid intake off, you may as well do the motherfucking knock sensor because that piece of shit is gonna throw code at some point if you have miles on it.
>>29103380>>29103387Sweet. I'm just getting the car going. Don't know all what it needs. I want to keep it in good working order so when the starter goes I will take your advice.
>>29103397That's based Anon, I don't know if you're planning on doing a full tune up with spark plugs to get this car nice, but if you do spark plugs, get new ignition coils too because I neglected mine during a plug change and it misfired.
>>29103369which is still not as diabolical as a Tesla hiding the physical door handle under an inspection panel and not labeled
>>29103405Not as diabolical as BMW placing the only neutral release switch on the transmission behind 30 or so screws. >Oh, your tire delaminated and shredded the wiring in the wheel well causing your car to shut off middle of the street? Gjhf lmao.t. Roadside assistant.
>>29103400Good call anon. I was thinking it probably needs a tune-up, don't know the history of it. Bought it from a kid for 3k. (Lol) Mine is a 09 sedan.
>>29102720>oh no I have to remove the intake manifold once every 300,000 miles when the starter finally reaches the end of its service lifeDo wrenchlets really?
>>29103454>09 sedanThat's a nice fuckin car Anon, 2009 was when the 8th gen got facelifted a little, 3K is fucking steal for a running Civic because everybody knows what they have now, it's getting to the point where a good running known reliable non turbo used anything is 10K minimum at a dealer, which means at 3K you have a shit ton of money to fix whatever is needed and to preventative shit and win at life.
>>29102720No, that's why I avoid Northstars like the plague.
>>29103515The Northstar is piss easy to do if you have a helper to hold up the intake.
>>29102720>>29103515>outboard, exposed to road splash, salt (if applicable), maybe right next to an exhaust pipe>inside relatively cool, protected intake valleypick your poison
>>29103572>relatively cool,Kek the intake is heatsoaked as hell, not only does heat rise off the fucking engine, but the car is sucking in its own hot blowby via the PCV for extra heat.
>>29102720I'd take this over many other cases.
>>29103572Outside, I've never had a starter fail due to external factors like splashing or road salt, aren't starters generally almost completely sealed anyway?I've rarely seen starters themselves go bad without user error, it's usually the solenoid or starter ring that go bad.
>>29103644mine got sticky once so I greased itliterally the only starter problem I've had in 20+ years of owning absolute bottom of the barrel high mileage shitboxes
>>29103644Yeah usually the armature of a starter just burns up on its own after lots of usage, I've seen some crusty as fuck salt coated starters and alternators working just fine, and I've seen electrical shit never salt corroded just die out of nowhere on a nice day in California, so it just is what it is.
>>29103608that's why i said relatively cool. it's hot but still not as hot as being right next to an exhaust manifold or pipe
>>29103092You have to do this with a fox body 5.0 and equal length shorty headers.Like 3 feet of extensions, popped together as you thread it past everything. Even have to go through the motor mount.FE in an F100 with long tubes is fun too.Once you use 2 feet of extensions to unbolt the starter you have to unbolt the passenger header and play a game of tetris to get either one out.
>>29104384Are you me?
>>29104403Not sure, we'll ask us...
