now that the dust has finally settled, what do you guys think about the drz4s?
>>
>>29104186
4s?

I guess that's the zoomers new nickname for The DRZ 400S ?

Back on my day, we just called it Doctor Z.
>>
hmm its ok
>>
>>29104223
They renamed it when Suzuki made it fuel injection. That's their new model naming scheme, the SV650 is now the SV7.
>>
>>29104253
damn I'm really glad I bought one while it's still called the sv650
>>
>>29104223
it's upgraded now, stupid boomer
>>
>>29104186
>frame design from the 80s
No thanks.
And I only ride R models. I want every ounce of performance I can squeeze out of it.
>>
>>29104282
There never was a DRZ400R, the DRZ400E was the fast(ish) one.
>>
Probably too expensive.
>>
>>29104186
i have a DRZ400SM and it was one of the most fun motorcycles i have owned. i was really hoping the replacement DRZ would be 500cc with a 6 speed. but at least this has fuel injection.
>>
>>29104282
This poster is a nigger paying child support by the way
>>
Dirt bikes are the only sort of motorcycle I find value with.

Old version is better
>>29104268
>upgraded
>Fuel Injection
>>29104420
6speed was the only update it needed, and they didn't give it another gear.
>>
>>29104268
I'm going to buy a DRZ400S
Fuck you
>>
>>29104398
>There never was a DRZ400R
Thats my point.
>>
>>29104186
>too slow to go on the highway
>too heavy to do single track
whats the point of getting one if its shit at everything? Buy a husqvarna 501 instead
>>
>>29105284
>whats the point of getting one
Dudes with man-buns ride them to work.
Think of a tech startup in San Francisco with moped parking and he wants to be cool but is scared shitless of an EX500
>>
I think it's cool, and the DRZ doesn't need a sixth gear. If I were in the market for a new dual sport, I would be looking at those or an XR650L.
I don't know how difficult it is to get into the ECU, but I would try to have all the rider modes flashed out of it and delete the ABS. If it sells well enough, the aftermarket will have solutions for all that stuff.
https://youtu.be/Hgtlpap3a1E
>>
The old one was good, so this one is good. But it really could have used a sixth gear.
>>
>>29105284
> Just buy a Husky 501 for a dual sport, guys
> Service interval is 10 hours
> Air filter at 10
> Valve checks at 15
> Top end at 50
Lol. LMAO even.
>>
>>29104779
Then R is extra fucking meaningless. So you'd race a Yamaha wr250r over a Yamaha wr250f in enduro?
>>
>>29105354
Air filter is a constant if you're in any amount of dirt, oil changes and valve checks are true though.
>>
>>29104560
>Accelerator pump function built into how all fuel injection works
>Same AFR at 9000' and sea level
>Greater range from the same amount of gas
>Same AFR at all throttle positions/loads
>>
>>29105364
I do not change my air filter on my 650 every 700 miles, not even with riding moon dust. 1500, maybe.
>>
>>29105368
faggot
>>
>>29105354
if you really value your riding time then its worth it
>>
>>29105392
Care to refute any of my points on a technical basis?
>>29105379
Is it a paper filter or an oiled foam filter? You really should be using an oiled foam filter.

Im not running stadium events.
Im living free. And I want maximum performance when im doing it.
>>
>>29105435
So just to confirm, you'd pick a wr250r over a wr250f?
>>
>>29105354
This alone is why im excited for electric bikes, give me 100 miles of range and ill switch forever
>>
>>29105466
Likely not happening unless you're putting along on a trail with something as bulky as a TW200. 2wd e-tw200 would be fucking schweet, why am I poo-pooing this?
>>

the stark varg has about 50 miles if you're not ripping it on a motocross track, i dont think its that far fetched

It has potential but thats a harsh tradeoff when my camper is parked in the sand at Glamis and I have (2) 5 gallon jugs of premix for the weekend and I can top off my CR250R in 15 seconds and be on my way again.
>theres no electrical outlets there BTW. Rum what you brung.

Bench racers gor BTFO because everyone who has ridden both always goes with the 4S.
>>29104560
Everyone knows that a modern EFI bike needs an exhaust and tune. With a full arrow exhaust and tune you're looking at just shy of 40hp at the wheel
>>
>>29105568
Are you being retarded on purpose for our amusement? The wr250r is the slowest WR series bike. Thanks for telling us you're retarded.
>>
>>29105604
Not that anon but I love my WR250R.
I really hope they do one with a larger engine and 35-40hp one day.

>>29105605
They are never making that bike again, I have one and also adore it. If hotrods or whatever the company is still in business in a few years, I want to build a big bore + stroker crank kit.
>>
>>29104186
it doesnt need 4 ride modes and all the other lame electronic shit. ABS is fine i guess, because i think that might be required in some places for new bikes. fuel injection was inevitable, but a carb would still be better.
they are missing the appeal of the DRZ, its too complicated now and costs too much. DRZ's are supposed to be cheap, reliable bikes. that's it.
>>
>>29105608
Based. What size is your tool tube? I've been meaning to make one of those.
>>
>>29105618
I just bought the pro cycle kit because I am overworked and the mental effort of putting together a DIY kit was not in the cards. Jealous of your exhaust if that's a GYTR pipe, those are extinct now.
>>
>>29104268
fuel injection is a downgrade
>>
>>29105620
Oh cool, I didn't know there was a kit. I might get that too, same issue I never have time for things.
It is indeed a GYTR, previous owner installed it.
You can still get them new in Australia directly from Yamaha. Pretty expensive though.
>>
>>29105284

Suzuki shill
carburetor is better
>>
>>29105631
Why is carburetion better?
>>
>>29105354
these maintenance intervals are for niggers that wring the shit out of their engines, if you're just putting down trails or coasting on the highway it lasts considerably longer
>>
>>29105640
Because God created the carburetor on the 3rd day and you can fix any issue no mater how long your journey.
Kickstart
Carbureted
No battery
and Suzuki should make a 400 aircooled engine instead.
>>

>>
>>29105651
Just buy a dr650 and jerk yourself off with the kickstarter.
>>29105622
For that fucking price I'll buy a second stock can and cut it open and drill the cat out.
>>29105653
Fuel injection has been around for decades. If you're abusing your shit bad enough to make sensors fail out of the blue, a carb would also give you trouble, as would the rest of the bike.
>>
>>29105668
>If you're abusing your shit bad enough to make sensors fail out of the blue
sensors
fuel pump
injectors
random electrical bullshit that stumps forums for decades
retarded voltage issues
>>
>>29105671
All that fucks with carbed bikes too, especially japshit with their vacuum operated petcocks that never really work straight.
>>
>>29105672
except the
>no sensor
>no fuel pump
>no injectors (I guess jets get clogged but I'd still rather remove a float bowl than an injector on the trail.
>next to no electrical bullshit besides the odd easily diagnosed magneto issue.
>>
>>29105701
Your carbed bike has no kickstand switches, clutch lever switches, kill switch, variable ignition timing paired with a throttle position sensor, etc? Must be some slow ancient piece of shit.

>Your carbed bike has no kickstand switches, clutch lever switches, kill switch, variable ignition timing
My 1987 Moto Guzzi California 3 had all of that, which I disabled because they kept giving me constant issues.
Variable ignition timing with points ignition is usually some sort of centrifugal advance in the dizzy that maybe sorta oughta work
>>
>>29104186
I don't think about it.
>>
>>29105730
Anon, it's Italian electronics, what the fuck did you expect?
>>
>>29105756
Yeah it was a pain in the ass, the super oc donut steel armature removal tool was like 100 bucks, it was a lefthand threaded bolt with a long rod in the front if memory serves. Made my own bolt for 5 bucks.
I've had the same shit happen on my jap bikes too.
Vacuum operated fuel taps for example are a major pain in the ass, followed by their fucking stupid fuel pumps for carbed bikes that tend to shit themselves every now and then.
My references being the honda cbr hurricane I had and the yamaha dragstar I went to look at at the local bike stealership, which was completely fucked electronics wise.

As much as I love the the DRZ400, carburetors fucking suck, I got so tired of messing with them over the years, I just want to hit the starter button and go these days.
>>
>>29105604
I wouldnt touch any enduro class to begin with. Theyre shit.
Im talking about class 8 baja and youre showing up with a rally kitted fiesta. Theyre both technically setup for "offroad racing" but you didnt understand the application form.

Is this a common issue for you when riding?

Whats that?

If you cant spend 20 seconds to drain the carb when unloading it in the garage then thats on you
>>
>>29105955
>go any longer than 6 months without riding and the carb gets gummed up
I bought a bike that sat for 20 years, just drained out the old fuel and kicked it to life with fresh gas. Started on the 3rd kick, Runs like a champ.
>>
>>29105718
Have a cup holder with your dualsport faggot
>>

we are so deep into ebike derangement that people on modern bikes larp about having kickstarts and no alternator

yes falling over is a core part of riding single track in the mountains. Also kick start on a hill is a pain in the ass, especially if your kicking side is the one holding you up

The accelerator pump would be nice, the offroad model came with a highly praised pumper carb, the TM33. It's a common swap.

On my bike there's a little T connector so the fuel just flows out to the ground if the carb floods on its side.
Can you turn off the petcock?
>>
Not terrible
https://youtu.be/Rhw7rpzOIag
>>
>>29107464
If you can get to the petcock you can just pick the bike up, most bikes with FCR39s are very light. The problem is when you went ass over teakettle trying to hop a log on an uphill or something, and you wanna just lie there for a minute or two and make sure all your pieces are still in place.
>>
>>29107534
Now imagine if it had a 6th gear
