>bro, the hybrid system in the new NSX is too complicated
>a basic fucking battery in a euro slop car:
>>
I was just reading about the new Mercedes electric CLA (subcompact sedan)
it can go over 350 highway miles on a single charge BUT
there's no way to manually adjust the fan speed at all - it's single zone climate control and you can only adjust the temperature, not the fan speed, and its 70,000 USD
>>
Hybrid cars prove that crossbreeding is ethically wrong
>>
>>29104432
How is this legal?
>>
>>29104432
At least you don't have to adapt the battery... r-right?
>>
>>29104439
I was reading the review of the new Audi RS5
it weighs a 1000 lbs more than the old non-hybrid one, and because of the large nearly 30 kwh battery (some small electric cars only have 40-50 kwh batteries), there's only as much trunk room as a subcompact VW polo would have

He didn't use dielectric grease. Fucking rookie. I'd make him do it over again.

Plug in hybrids are so retarded it's insane. Even moreso in a sports car.
>>
>>29104449
its weird how there's not more focus on 3-5 kwhr batteries - most hybrids are either 1 kwhr or massive 15+ batteries

The fact that its behind MULTIPLE plastic covers is the crazy part. And the fact that it'a clipped in instead of having a hinge or something built to move without tools shows they truly did not give a fuck.
Surely they could have easily moved it somewhere accessible by just sliding the chair forward.

My theory is that the C-suite treats the engineers and designers poorly and they have responded by trying to sabotage the company.
>>
DaimlerChrysler was a mistake. I do believe it honestly killed the company.
>>
>>29104510
Audi and BMW have been similarly ruining their interiors and making heavy screen-slop. It isn't just one company.

Yea, it killed Chrysler and made Mercedes rich.

The added weight probably makes the gain in kWh negligible in terms of efficiency. Or it's just a budget concern.

Putting the battery in the lowest part of the car right under the driver's dirty/wet/snowy feet will surely cause no extra corrosion or contact issues.
>>
>>29104432
Kekd, rental car engineering. The funny thing is he's doing all that to make sure some retarded nigger and its family make it to work.
>>
>>29104507
my theory is that engineers and designers are simply retarded and put shit wherever it fits, chanting

when anyone complains about maintainability or accessibility or even assembly line factoring

Jesus Christ...

Shouldn't we be smart enough to make things easier to work on these days instead of making things an ass-pain? Oh wait, I guess (they) don't want you working on shit anymore...
>>
I can't wait to celebrate when this fucking conpany goes bankruptted
>>
>>29104450
Because that's the un-sweet spot that doesn't sell. Going full hog with half of an EV stuffed inside a regular car is much more attractive to buyers since it allows them to run their daily chores in EV only range and to take maximum advantage of rebates and tax advantages, and the automakers also benefit massively since lower taxes allow them to push higher margins for themselves and having much more EV range on tap lets them fudge the emissions and consumption tests to push the fleet average down significantly. And if you're shopping for a less aggressively EV-ized non-plug-in hybrid, a tiny baby 1 kWh battery is plenty to get most of the advantages of regen braking and electrically powered takeoffs with the ICE cutting in only at higher speeds.
>>

Legit question, not even trolling:
What if the car needs a jump start in cold snowy winter?
>>
>>29104758
They have battery posts in the engine bay usually for this specific reason/scenario.
>>
>>29104761
That doesn't help a (truly)dead battery. You'll need a tow and that's just a downright dogshit scenario to be in because the stealership has to replace it and you'll be in a pinch or on a roadtrip when it happens. Fuck nucars.
>>
>>29104764
We were talking about a jumpstart, not a completely fucked battery.
>>
>>29104592
My experience with software and hardware engineers matches your theory.
>Tell engineer that the code he wrote keeps causing units to crash because the things are too sensitive and turn themselves off when they encounter imperfect conditions in real world testing
>He asks if there are any circumstances where they do work and then says "good, then they're fine" when I tell him that I can usually get them to function after turning them off and on for a few minutes
Our entire selling point is that our stuff is really robust.
>>
If you have room for a full size car battery underneath the floor underneath the driver's seat, then your car is way too high.
>>
Fun fact. Merc has 3 (three) 12v batteries, the one in the webm is the marine battery for all the interior stuff. The one that starts the car is hidden in the engine bay.

Hybrid drivetrain is a scam. I can tell you even a 1kWh battery is rarely fully charged from just everyday driving. A 3kWh would bring no advantages but only extra weight and costs.
>>
>>29104753
That sounds like a major security hazard.
>>
>>29104432
Straightforward I guess but I would never buy a Mercedes so I don't care what they do. They will probably fill the cavity with shit for 2027 since they will be built in India soon.
>>
>>29104435
That's bullshit but personally I think dual zone climate is a worthless bloat feature unless your vehicle seats 6+ people
>>
>>29104869
>Hybrid drivetrain is a scam. I can tell you even a 1kWh battery is rarely fully charged from just everyday driving.
On my Prius I get 50-60 mpg and routinely get trips where it runs on battery 60-80% of the journey. How is hybrid a scam exactly? I have instant acceleration with the eCVT and excellent mpg. On top of that I get lower maintenance costs since there are less moving parts compared to ICE.

Even ICE cars are really efficient nowadays. Hybrid is just a scam to trick legislators for tax dodging.

>>29104980
He's right, there are fewer components in a Toyota eCVT than in a regular non-hybrid car. He literally doesn't have a transmission. And the electric motors aren't a tax dodge, they're just there for more power.

>>
>>29106275
I'm imagining it and it's not good.
After 10-20 years I'm sure their fingers, wrists, shoulders, and back all are constantly sore and will forever be.
Then you have lung and skin cancers. Increased blood cancer (leukemia, very bad) risk from all the solvents, oils, and fuels.
If you loved working on cars, you won't very quickly.
That's not even going into the money and "respect" stuff or the hours games that dealership shops play.
>>
Realistically, you have to change the battery once every 7-10 years so needing to do some mild disassembly should be trivial.
Also realistically its kinda dumb to install it under so many things when a panel or beauty cover works so much better.

>>29104580
>The funny thing is he's doing all that to make sure some retarded nigger and its family make it to work.
I was going to go into some monologue about how a luxury vehicle such as Mercedes doesn't care what the lowly mechanic has to deal with to replace any part or parts on the vehicle, but this anon t-boned me at the intersection of chat and conversation. I do see a shitload of very clearly poor minorities driving top trim level Mercs.
>>

>I do see a shitload of very clearly poor minorities driving top trim level Mercs.
Yea imagine poo cutting one unit of effort into keeping them on the road. I'd rather eat shit for 1000 lifetimes you don't understand how much I hate nigger ricers. If they want to drive those LED ridden pieces of shit let them fix it.

Makes me feel better about all the cars I've owned with "nightmare" maintenance, and its just a timing belt that takes a weekend once every 5 years.

Its entirely possible they did that on purpose to keep wrenchies from wrenching and force going to the dealership

*hammond's voice* and so we take a sharp right into the seven car pileup on conversation street
>>

Adapting batteries and coil plugs was something BMW did 20 years ago
>>
>>29104432
who cares? you only have to change the battery like once every 5 years. plus they check the baterry when they service the car so you don't have to worry about it randomly dying on you.
>>
I will never buy a car that requires a house bank.

Side note
Can someone explain to me why we don't focus on hybrid vehicles, diesel electric train style but smaller?
>>

>>
>>29104432
There are some GM cars where the battery is behind the wheel liner, so you have to take off the wheel, the trim, the wash bottle and then you can get to it. Modern cars are just weird man.

>>29104793
Similar to Volvo SUVs from what I recall. There's one hidden battery in the interior and then the main battery is inside the trunk somewhere.

>>29107801
Kek same. And the next complaint would be it wasn't blowing enough air, so I'd have to nearly max out the fan.
