What's the most reliable machine you have ever owned? I own a 2008 Chevy 2500 6.0l with over 435k on it. I have owned a 2001 Mitsubisbi Montero Sport that crossed 340k, a 2005 4runner with 335k and a 2015 4runner with 320k when I sold it - no issues whatsoever. I've had several vehicles develop major issues with relatively low miles - a 2020 Chevy 2500 6.6l gas with 80k miles that developed a lifter tick, a 2018 Ram 2500 with a failing torque converter around 85k miles, 2015 Grand Cherokee developed a misfire at 75k miles, 2016 GL450 that had coolant leak into the oil causing cylinder scoring etc. Some modern vehicles are bulletproof, and others are laughably fragile. I'm optimistic about my 2021 F250 6.2l and my 2024 Model 3. What vehicle would you get if you wanted to keep it for life?

I have the truck I will keep for life. GMT400 1993 GMC Sierra K1500. I bought it recently because an old man totalled off my 90 GMC Sierra C1500. The GMT 400 trucks are very reliable.

any naturally aspirated diesel with a mechanical fuel pump
it will last until either the pump fails or a rubber hose rots and starts spilling fuel
my first car was like this and now i love the smell of fresh diesel
i wouldnt get another one though, the exhaust smell is unbearable compared to anything else

Gf has a 2008 yaris that has never had anything go wrong except for a rear brake light bulb which took 20 seconds to swap out.
I have a 1984 300D with 380k miles and a Moto Guzzi California from 1985 with 105000 miles. 300D has some bullshit vacuum problems with the door locks and stuff but runs like a top and the Guzzi has only ever needed suspension work.

Can attest. We have one of these over 300k in our family. Fully restored. Awesome vehicles.

The odometer says 312k but looking at the service records it was swapped for one with an identified amount of miles at some point, so who knows. Parts are harder to find and getting a doner is a pain in the ass.

An EV with LFP batteries from a reliable manufacturer.
