These things used to be everywhere. Once you replace the shitty factory intake hose and intercooler they are reliable and extremely easy to tune to 220+HP with a flat torque curve above 2500 rpm. They also sound amazing.Where did they all go?
>he thinks 220hp is impressive
I got to chase one around locally on a highway and get it to rev happily along with my civic si a single time but that was the only time I've ever seen one anywhere. Seemed fun and I will agree that thing sounded absolutely tits. Anyone that gets it as a hand me down first car from an older relative just scored a sweet ride but buying one of the very few available on the market is probably asking for someone's absolutely trashed and neglected shitshow.

Junkyard.
>>29105543>hot hatch
>>29105543These are a ton of fun, but unfortunately they're made of shitty plastic and hope. Combined with a surprising amount of electrical problems for how few amenities the car actually has, and you've got a car that doesn't stick around for very long.
It was the second coming of the Neon SRT-4.They showed up dominating highway roll races then disappeared from the roads.I drove a non-Abarth turbo 5-spd for 10-15k miles. It's the most fun I've had in a FWD. I kept looking down noticing I was going 120+. Boost is incredibly addicting. I'd assume the Abarth is that but more. Handled like ass though. With aids on it would brake any time I tried to toss it mildly. With aids off you could toss it in just fine then it understeers. On wide sweepers it feels like it's going to understeer due to the squatty wheelbase.
>>29105610This unfortunately. These cars needs be cared for very extensively and most of the owners just couldn't keep up. The turbo ones are running so hot that as you said need aftermarket cooling solutions. They are also very maintainance sensitive, you miss that 2000 miles oil change with an engine running that hot is simply a receipe for disaster. All of that was just about cooling, we aren't talking about internals, parts quality control, or parts avaliability...They might be doing better at yurop(not sure don't care either) but in America, you need be madly in love with them to keep them roadworthy
>market to elders and female college girls>they don’t know know to take care of these things>they don’t live beyond 80k milesThe only issue with these cars are the valve actuator if you push the car too hard and cheap plastic cosmetics. I’ve seen enthusiasts rip these things apart and manage to live beyond 200k miles on the cluster. On the stock block they can push slightly above 300hp and that’s scary af. hearing these with a down pipe make me cum
>guise if i take this 1 litre french piece of shit and CHUNE it i can make the same HP as a 40 year old civic!!!!!!
>>29105543Americans realized they're french and did the right thing by abandoning them
>>29105762The Abarth handles better. It handles strangely, but better. Basically you gotta chuck it into corners and trail brake pretty heavy like most fwd cars. If you trail brake they will oversteer, and the wheelbase is so short it's hard to keep them right on the edge of oversteer without going over more than a tad. If they start to rotate too much throttle immediately arrests the spin. This is fun for tight low speed corners, not so fun for high speed sweepers. It will lift the back inside tire entirely off the ground when you do this. You can feel it in the brake pedal if you pay attention when this happens it's awesome.
>>29105817this boards favorite car makes between 116-181hp stockyou don't need 500hp to make a small car fun to drive

abarths are sex, but yeah you'll either buy another enthusiast's project or some rando's bundle of problems. if you have about 10k to put into one after you buy it, you'll walk most coyote mustangs from a roll and slap around m cars in corners. power isn't as important as power to weight
>>29105543Because everyone did that to their and blew the engine up not long after, stock boost pressure is about 18psi from the factory, pushing the motor to 200-220 will need like 22-25psi of boost on what's basically an upgraded economy 1.4l. They were never made for long, look at the remaining Abarth 500s left for sale, how much mileage do they have for their year and how many very high mileage examples do you see? An Abarth 500 at 100k miles is basically a normal car at 200k miles
