Why do they feae cheap chinese EVs so much? I want my $30k BYD FFS.
>>
I don't want Chinese cars on the road. I don't want my neighbor plugging a Chinese car into a high voltage charger in his garage
>>
Because why would you buy anything else over a chinese car if you can?
>>
>>29106748
because I don't want a chinese car

Simply because they're cheaper than most other new cars. They're also abysmal elephant shit, but that's a story for another day.

>>

Sadly.
>>
>>29106747
Now you understand why gas car bans are happening.
>>
>>29106743
Because the Chinese are planning to do what they've done with plenty of other industries over the past few decades. Using state controlled funding, they'll produce cars to be sold at a loss across several different brands. The target market will start to buy largely Chinese made vehicles because cost is the driving factor of purchases for the vast, vast majority of consumers. Once the local manufacturers have been driven to irrelevancy, they will jack up the prices in order to turn a profit and repay the Chinese government. Now the victim-nation has no manufacturing or economic viability to produce cars anymore, and will be completely reliant on imports. I would ban them too, you lose a great deal of your sovereignty as a nation when you give up domestic manufacturing of vital goods, as well as many paying jobs, and national culture for the US especially

Funny that China has never jacked up rates and their products are cheap in China as well.

Face it, the Chinese are just willing to work 4 times as hard for 1/4th the wage and they’re smart enough to continually improve their processes so their products get better and better, and nobody else can keep up.
They’ll eventually get fat and lazy but right now they’re where the US was from the Industrial Revolution to the 1960’s where this nation was built, only they have the advantage of modern engineering and having been able to “check their work” against 100+ years of European and American refinement, so it only took them 30 years to catch up and they’ve still got fire in their bellies so now they’re out-innovating everyone.

Any ban on Chinese dumping should be congruent with a ban on importing with your label. MF just want to keep being the middle man.

Before you get one, some parking garages and apartment complex parking areas do have restrictions for such vehicles. So check to see if you can park that thing where you want to park it AND also check if you are allowed to charge it at that location as well.

>$30k is not cheap.

The most basic (entry-level) all-electric passenger vehicle made by BYD for the Chinese domestic market is the BYD Seagull (also branded as the Dolphin Mini or Atto 1 in some export regions). The Official MSRP (China) is 69,800 RMB for the entry-level Active / Vitality trim which is approx $9,800 USD. However, they frequently have price-discounting at the dealerships which then makes the price range from about $8,000 to $9,000 USD.

Please note that this basic price is for the standard Chinese version which does NOT meet either European or USA NHTSA standards. Export models of this EV are actually modified with additional structural support, metal thickness, and safety features to meet minimum safety requirements and that drives the price up to about $26K USD.

No, they're willing to be exploited sixteen times as hard as an American worker, The reason manufacturing saw China as an attractive destination is because Chinese workers were uneducated and had weak labour protection laws, and weren't allowed to unionize. This is not something to be proud of. Wage arbitrage essentially contributes to human misery.

Regardless of batteries, a car that feels like a go-kart doesn't seem safe if a collision occurs. That light weight feeling from a minimal frame and minimum legal thickness of its sheet metal body suggests that it would crumple up even at lower speeds.

Forget EVs the chinese gasoline cars will destroy the domestic car market. When I was in Mexico almost all new cars were Chinese and for about $12,000 USD you got a fully loaded econobox on par with a mid 2000s honda fit that makes the Mitsubishi Mirage look like complete trash

>>
>>29109431
>I'd buy a chinky car if it was a ridiculous value
The problem is that even in China, they take shortcuts to save costs whenever they can and don't honor warranties if they can get away with it in their local area.

For example, chinese cars submitted for crash tests might even use NON-OEM parts from other cars.
>>
>>29110094
>they take shortcuts to save costs whenever they can and don't honor warranties if they can get away with it
I'll take it, its not like big name companies here aren't making crap but more expensive Honda's 1.5T has been around since 2016 and theyre barely acknowledging this is a problem and offering a long 150K warranty on the head gasket, which means they've been ducking and dodging fixing it for 10 fucking years, I dont know how much worse chinkmobiles can possibly be, becsuse you can't even buy your way into a reliable car anymore, at least if my chinky car breaks, its so cheap that its not worth fixing, someone with a late model Accord is literally stuck with the choice of ruin your life a little getting a $5000 head hasket done becsuse the car is top expensive to replace, or ruin yoyr children's life becsuse you replaced the expensive ass car that for some reason isnt designed well enough to not break catastrophically.

Bring on the chinks, I wanna whip my fucking car around with no fucks because I can afford to replace it.
>>
>>29110321
>its so cheap that its not worth fixing
It's an acknowledged "truth" in the Chinese car market that their cars are made for a limited lifespan. But please don't confuse DURABILITY with PRODUCT SAFETY. That particular Honda model might not have reliable head gaskets in all serial number cohort production runs for that engine, but at least the Honda cars have product safety in mind.

That is way-overpriced for a non-luxury model BYD car EV or not. BYD also uses the cheaper to manufacture blade batteries which similar to those flat rectangular pack batteries. Tesla uses the metal case cylindrical batteries and even runs coolant or heated fluid around them as needed.

>>29110431
>OUTTA MY WAY 0.5% DISCOUNT AT RAT MEAT MARKET!
They still have market stalls selling dog and cat meat. Occasionally, you see (at other forums) videos of people even kidnapping dogs out of their own yards for the meat market which may end up in the street food.
>>
BYD saves on cost by having just one wiper, but its sweep range needs to be larger. Or this demo of the wiper was faulty as its maximum range is about what you see in the picture.
>>
>>29110767
Worked for the Twingo.
But BYD is also saving on the rear wiper by making the window tiny.
>>
Prime Minister Carney signed an agreement with China to allow 40,000 EV cars per year to come in at only 6.1% tariff. As a result, BYD is developing 20 dealership locations in Canada along with a parts distribution network. With the expected successful sales of low-priced BYD, as time allows it to develop, it can serve as the beach head for future expansion into the USA.

It's an important safety feature to stop the driver from craning their neck to peer through the clear spot. This cost-cutting attitude of BYD for safety suggests there are other safety or reliability or durability shortcuts in each vehicle.

Why countries? Wouldn't it be beneficial if each US State was protectionist against the others? Could actually be done at county level actually. 3,000+ regions each being autonomous rather than relying on commerce with others
>>
>>29114717
>Wouldn't it be beneficial if each US State was protectionist against the others?
no because no single state has everything to be self sufficient. As a whole the usa can be self sufficient. As parts it can't be.
>>
>>29114721
Well, maybe not taxes for everything but at least for everything that can realistically be obtained or developed in every state?
Every state can grow food, turn plastic pellets into plastic parts through injection, turn sand into glass, make alloys from basic elements, so on and so forth.
If you illegalize or heavily tax inner commerce of food, parts, etc workers in every state will be better off. Some raw materials or super advanced products (electronics?) might need to be off the taxes though.
Like do you actually think it's impossible for any particular state to have a factory make cars and truck by pressing steel and bolting on supplied parts? I don't. Once the factory is set up, you can start taxing individual components so every factory in each state also gets parts made in their own state, and so on. Undoubtedly (and I'm not being ironic) that would be beneficial for the workers of those car factories, and those of the car part factories
