Will the Cayman EV usher in a new era of fun coupes? Aside from weight, the electric driveline is ideal for a car mostly used for short drives and the occasional road trip. You don't need to maintain it like you'd do a regular coupe. And since you can pack all the battery where the back seats usually are, you don't get the usual EV raised floor shit either. It could also result in cheaper cars for single people.

No. Porsche kneejerked and made the wrong choice and they'll sell about 4 of them.

No, it will help bolster the prices of used Caymans and Boxters.

No, the battery tech would have to be good enough so that a battery pack can have the same weight, size and range as a similarly sized fuel tank
>>
>>29110398
The EV version will weigh as much as the ICE one. Caymans are heavy as fuck.

It's like saying you're strait so you decided to be a gynecologist.

Hopefully, same with the upcoming A110 and SC01.

Porsche’s new ceo wanted to cancel this and is only building it because Audi wants to have a TT successor and would only share the Q9 three row SUV development if Porsche ate the cost and produced these to make Audis balance sheet look less bad. This was cancelled because irs not better than the outgoing model and it’s too expensive and their customers don’t want it.

Audi on the other hand has no coupe, the TT was fast but FWD, and now has a real car again.
>>

>lowest center of gravity
>instant torque
>high power
>extremely smooth delivery

The issue is nobody has made one for the purpose of fun and it’s hard to do at a price point that works in the current economy.

I've done enough track days with the Porsche guys to know that they're not really interested in EV performance versions.
They'll buy things like tycans to be their daily driver, but nothing on track or a fun car.

They may be a little bit stuck up but I found the Porsche guys are actual car enthusiasts.

They don't even buy Taycans. FFS I live in Stuttgart and almost every Taycan you see can be identified as a Porsche company car by the plate. The most extreme case I know daily drives a regular 911 and owns a GT3 as the for fun car.

>Porsche is still being coy with details about the first electric 718, which will be sold as the Boxster convertible and Cayman coupe. We don’t know power outputs or specifics about the powertrains, chassis, or estimated driving range. However, Porsche did reveal that its electric sports car will take a novel approach to the battery placement, eschewing the skateboard-style setup that’s commonplace in EVs, where the battery sits under the floor.

Instead, Porsche has mounted the battery, which is also structurally integrated into the chassis, exactly where the internal-combustion engine was in the gas-powered 718 models: directly behind the seats. Porsche refers to this as its E-Core architecture and says the setup is meant to preserve the mid-engined driving character of the gas-fed 718s. In a combustion Boxster, 59.8 percent of the weight sat over the rear axle, while in the 718 EV, 55.2 percent of the weight is positioned at the rear.

>The battery’s unique placement is evident the moment you slide into the electric 718’s seat. Many EVs have a high seating position due to the battery being positioned under the floor, but the electric Boxster we rode in felt shockingly familiar to the recently discontinued gas-fed Boxster, both in its low-slung seating position and in its overall proportions. While the lightly camouflaged model clearly has different headlights and taillights and appears to ditch the intake just ahead of the rear wheels, the lithe shape feels almost identical to the gas-burning 718, and Porsche says the E-Core setup was crucial for this as well.

Porsche also says the mid-mounted battery placement allowed the company to maintain the “signature balance, agility, and precision” of its gas sports car, despite the new-age powertrain. While we weren’t able to drive the Boxster EV ourselves, it certainly felt nimble from the passenger’s seat as we blasted around the tight, twisty Weissach circuit.
>>
>We can also confirm that the 718 EV will have the E-Shift mode that arrived in the Taycan for 2027, where the car simulates gearchanges and engine noises. Our driver told us he loved it, as it gave him more reference points when driving on track and a better sense of how the car was behaving. Plus, he said it was just plain fun. The faux engine noises didn’t sound too artificial and weren’t overwhelmingly loud, unlike the sound effects in the Dodge Charger Daytona.

I think it would be a fun 2nd/3rd/4th+ car for running around.

I just associate anything electric with capitulation to globohomo and oppositional to the spirit of the automobile. EV's are another step in the direction of turning everything into an appliance with planned obsolence built in. A sports car brand should never stoop to this level.

Taycan was up against fierce competition. Cayman EV has no real competition in the field. There are no electrical coupes.

Besides, Taycan is really underrated at the moment.
>>
>>29114358
Nobody gives a shit about the Taycan now. 911 owners won't give a shit about Cayman EV. 718 owners will wait for the gas Cayman. Their only hope is new buyers but who is going to buy a 6 figure EV coupe?

it is infact happening.
it is launching in 2027 and is under tight nda.
The only thing that is confirmed is its production site.
The r8 is canned, the concept c will take its place on the line in neckarsulm alongside the etroon gt and nuvolari. Re-tooling already started in summer shutdown
>>
>>29114474
People will appreciate Taycan more as Porsche is forced into more and more ICE regulations completely killing the appeal of an engine. They're selling 911s loaded with fake hybrid shit already. They're already semi electric.
>>
>>29114662
E-tron GT is such a cool looking car. Shame the trunk is so absurdly small for a five seater. The Taycan just makes it irrelevant.
>>
>>29114812
im actually in the market for a 2023 model
>Shame the trunk is so absurdly small for a five seater
going by volume one could say that, but it fits 6 beer/water cases, not like a golf variant or a4 wagon could ever fit more.
>The Taycan just makes it irrelevant
its like 30% more expensive for almost the same car
>>
>>29114816
>its like 30% more expensive for almost the same car
Here they barely sold any etroons, probably why they cost 10k more for the same MY/mileage. The market is filled with Taycans for bargain prices. You sure you're not finding cheaper ones than etroon?
>>
>>29114821
>You sure you're not finding cheaper ones than etroon?
i guess etroon prices are lower due to the existance of the poverty trim level and the insane spare parts situation.
But buying a used car its not like im insisting on ceramic brakes and all that crap. I'd rather swap the discs every couple years than pay 5 grand for a single silicon carbide disc, yikes
>>
>>29114829
You're never changing disc brakes on an EV. 95% of the time you're motor braking.
>>
>>29114845
you morron, you change them because a pebble cracks it and inspection forces you to get it replaced.
even on a gas car you would never wear down sintered silicon carbide discs, they are much harder than the pads

Has the time come to buy a used Taycan? It's quick as fuck and more practical than the coming Csyman EV. I think it looks great too.
