How did Americans get convinced they need cars like these for their daily commute?

>anything other than a large NA 4 banger or V6 crossover, full size NA V8 SUV or truck is the only thing worth having because of the emissions category is falls under
The government totally sucks, ya motherfucker.

Its literally just emissions anon, people will buy cars if good ones are available but if you want a V6 or V8 engine these days, you're buying a larger vehicle to skirt around emissions, the days kf buying that panther body or Trannyverse V6 camry or accord that goes faster than it has any business going are gone, crossover and full size V8 powered ferd or Chevy are the only things worth buying, so people will buy that even if it is unwieldy and so big they can't use it, and the fuel economy is worse becsuse it is larger and heavier (way to save fuel and emissions govt niggers)
>>
>>29110410
>full size V8 powered ferd
Yeah we all know how popular those V8 Ford SUVs are. Every year Ford sells sooo many V8 powered SUVs.

Okay Mr Totally-not-American (We totally believe you) explain why we see the same trend in every single other country too
>>
>>29110305
it started as the car companies making them and making them cheap because theyre exempt from emissions laws, and amerimutts cant drive for shit so marketing them a vehicle as "safe" that will "win collisions"(??) works because they are an aging population who bash their cars into shit constantly as their brains turn to mush from age and lead exposure

there was a bit of Doing It Wrong On Purpose to kill the normal sedan (they are more expensive just to manipulate buyers into wanting the cheaper "SUV" or light-duty truck) and occasionally they were so brazen as to literally make a car objectively terrible on purpose to "prove" that you need a TRUCC (the PT Cruiser was literally this)
>>
>>29110504
>they are more expensive just to manipulate buyers into wanting the cheaper "SUV" or light-duty truck
Subaru is a great example of this.
The Ascent is their flagship SUV, almost the size of a Tahoe, and it starts at $40k. The BRZ is a small 2+2 coupe with an anemic powertrain and a fairly barebones interior that starts at $37k.

This "emissions" argument is so bullshit. You're all just parroting the same shit you heard someone else say but you don't understand what you're saying. I can prove it. I challenge this argument every time I see it brought up and to date exactly zero people have been able to defend it.
If it's purely because of government regulation, then why are there still sedans? If it's purely government regulation, then why don't existing sedans sell better?
The real truth is people just prefer crossovers and I don't know why you're so resistant to just accepting that. People will always quote the CAFE light trucks loophole but CAFE was frozen for over 20 years. Why did the crossover trend start and explode overnight in the 90s when regulations weren't even an issue? And most importantly why do see crossovers rise in popularity in other countries not adhering to America's personal fuel economy rules? Why are they growing in popularity in Canada and Mexico and all of Europe and Asia too? If sedans were truly more desirable then why are those countries voluntarily choosing crossovers too? The only times we ever see new car buyers, anywhere in the world, choosing sedans are when the country is so poverty stricken that they can't afford the extra cost

This is checkmate though. Sedans still exist because people still buy them. This is the free market at work. If the popularity of cuvs could only be attributed to malicious government intervention, then there wouldn't exist sedans which people could choose to buy.

>this only happens in Canada and AUS, and Canada has unofficial reciprocity with american standards and australia is full of insane people. yuroland is moving to smaller cars
Wrong. According to google, every single one of the top 20 countries by GDP (which somehow includes Canada) has shifted to a majority market share of SUVs with the only outlier being India which sits at an even 50/50.
Prior to 2000, all countries had overwhelmingly higher numbers of sedans sold vs SUVs with most being over 90% sedans. By 2010 the SUV craze had started rising and most of Western Europe was between 15-20% SUVs, up from <5%. In 2025 19 of the 20 top countries had all shifted to majority SUVs, and yes this includes "yuropland" specifically Germany, UK, France, Italy, Russia, Spain, Nederland, and Poland.
>>
>>29110709
well its a multitude of factors. stupid females buy most of the vehicles so they get lame globular pigfat suvs/cucovers. dudes want to larp as ranchers so they get pickup trucks. all of this influenced by propaganda from modern media. the decline of the sedan is simply caused by judaism, full stop.

That's a mortality issue.
Amerifats are dying sooner than Amerithins. That means you have an older (thinner) population skewing the obesity rate away from the younger fatter generations that aren't survive to old age. This also leads in to the slowdown in population growth.

If you look at the obesity rates by age bracket over the past 5 decades and you'll see the issue.

Camaro dimensions:
>L - 188.3 in
>W - 74.7 in
>H - 52.0 in to 53.1 in depending on trim
A7 dimensions:
>L - 195.6 in
>W - 75.8 in
>H - 56.0 in
The A7 is only 1 inch wider and 3 inches taller. 7 inches of length is a decent difference, but compare them both to the Miata which is almost 8 inches more narrow than the Camaro, 34 inches shorter in length, and 3 inches shorter in height than the Camaro while also weighing 1,500 pounds less.

>if automakers gave a fuck about us fatties they'd bring back bench seats.
You have to consider that they're not marketing to 'just' fatties, they're looking for the widest possible market - pun intended. You'll probably find that having acess to a centre console (/drinks holder/snack dispenser) appeals to a larger demographic.

There's a good possibility that bench seats will make a return once the average American is too wide for a conventional single seat. It would be foolish not to cater to them.

The only reason we get foreign sedans is because theyre designed for other countries markets
