Why are EVs allowed on the road when they don't even pay gas tax? and they're so heavy that they damage the road more than gas trucks.

Why aren't they banned or at least require a special tax stamp to own?
>>
You sound jewish
>they're so heavy that they damage the road more than gas trucks
Are your roads made out of eggshells?
>>
>battery randomly dies or explodes on the highway causing 100 car pileups
These things need to be banned.
>>
>>29111480
The tax "exemption" angle was to promote early adoption.
Once you have the infrastructure installed- from charging stations at restaurants to home chargers- people will be less likely to return to gas/diesel and you have effectively locked in customers. Thats when registration for EVs will increase to compensate for the reduced fuel tax revenue.

California is currently researching a VMT (vehicle miles traveled) tax and are studying how to implement it (Assembly bill 1421)

IN PA they have to pay a $250/year Road Use Charge.

I'm sure they will fuck it up by having minimums on every vehicle and then really rape you if you go over some maximum mileage or some bullshit, but it would be nice if my insurance and registration on some vehicles was purely on road mileage based because they hardly ever get driven on road.
>>
>>29111595
Your car will notify DMV of how many miles its been driven (pretty much anything made in the last 15 years is capable of this) and either your registration renewal will be based on that (no refunds if you drive less, will be updated if you drive more and future charges will he based on tjat aingle peak year) or youll just get a bill in the mail like property taxes (adjusted for your neighbors mileage and not just yours, exactly like property value)

They pay registration feeds
> and they're so heavy that they damage the road more than gas trucks.
1. Semi trucks are multiple times heavier and that's what roads are designed for.
2. Plenty of cars for decades have been heavier. A 2000 Chevy Surbuban is 5000 lbs, while many EVs are 3000-5000 lbs
>Why aren't they banned or at least require a special tax stamp to own?
If you want cars to pay their fair share of road maintenance, you would need to double the gas tax and registration in many places in the USA. (see map).

First off, that's a golf cart. I drive one.
My absolute ass they damage the road lol.
We don't pay gas tax... and I know this is really left field for you... we don't use gas. I charge from a panel bank/battery.
You're jealous aren't ya? That's what this is, you hate that you won't buy one because it's not sporty or something. Because to get to the grocery store you need that.
Buy a shitty little EV and a project car at the same time AND STOP BEING POOR.
>>
>>29111480
Governments don't actually need to collect gas tax to fix roads. They can use any money in their budget from any source (and if it is the federal government, money in their budget is literally spent into existence just by having been apportioned by Congress; there is no connection to tax revenue at all).

With all of the fuel being purchased in the Several States, do you see that showing up in the quality of the roads for the last 20-30 years?
>>
>>29111480
I think people who bitch bout how taxes are too low are basically jannies in real life.

They advocate for the government robbing you or of some misguided crusade about what's "fair" rather than what's needed and they do it for free.

I want to contract a leasing for a fiat topolino for 3 years 2500€ total, a full recharge is 1,5€, but the insurance hikes up the price. I'm gonna use it in a small city and on the country roads, i don't need to use high traffic roads. Mogs thermic but it still an investment.

gas tax isn't a thing, they just charge normal sales tax on it here

same for road tax, there is no specific tax for road use and vehicle registration is specifically stated to just cover the cost of the admin work of keeping a registry of vehicles. property taxes are what supposedly go directly into local road maintenance
>>
>>29111873
No, I think I'll just lobby for a $.25/mi tax on ev's instead lmfao
>>
>>29111542
In the long run they're going to have a road toll. Not just for speedways but for every single piece of public and private road you use. Satellites and mobile networks already make it feasible.
Coincidentally they can also monitor all your movement patterns and pull out cars that don't comply.
>>
>>29111542
>California is currently researching a VMT (vehicle miles traveled) tax
Actually, California is working on TWO different variations for implementation. One of them already exists and was hidden away as part of new construction costs imposed onto subdivision builders. Calculations are made on how far the subdivision is located from essential services (gas stations, supermarkets, key services) and that giant fee is then added to the cost per plot. Naturally that mileage fee is passed onto the new home buyer.
>>
If you own a EV you are direct;ly damaing human roads and our Democracy. And you can only pay for that in TAX!
>>

Ev's already pay the tax. You just get it on your registration instead of at the pump. Ev's are also very heavy compared to their gas counterparts. Road were goes up exponentially with weight, so yes they would be doing more damage. Comercial vehicles are still all that really matters on that front though.
>>
>>29113430
>Ev's are also very heavy compared to their gas counterparts.
They're heavier but not by a magnitude. Modern cars in general have gotten heavy.
>>
>>29113430
No they don't. EV "owners" (they own NOTHING) are freeloaders on the system.
>>
>>29113517
>EV "owners" (they own NOTHING) are freeloaders on the system.
Again, as has already been explained multiple times, this is handled differently in each state. For some it's a flat charge, or additional fee for registration.
And in many states "gas tax" isn't used for roadway maintenance anyways. It's just another revenue source for the state itself.
Continue being unreasonably salty though.

He probably isn't. It's a thing that they stopped using regular bicycles and switched to stolen ebikes to do their escapes as they are quiet but have enough power to go cut corners or use shortcuts to leave one neighborhood and enter another where neither you or a police cruiser can go.

So they're gonna fill my basement with ebikes, say the bikes are trannies, this triggers them and blows up my house, and they then use my now ground level roof as a ramp to ET over the neighborhood during their police escape. Gotcha.

We gotta regulate these ebikes.
>>
>>29111492
Do you really think heavier vehicles don't accelerate road wear? They do.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_power_law
>>
>>29115285
EVs do not significantly increase road wear. Actually, unless people start buying only Rivians or some shit, it's net neutral because boomers will just buy some land yacht that weighs as much as an EV otherwise.

>We gotta regulate these ebikes.
If for nothing else, regulating the ebikes by requiring license plates (as with motorcycles) will eventually get rid of most of the irresponsible users. One could say that bad users then resort to borrowing someone else's ebike to become irresponsible, but due to the plate, that ebike will become confiscated thus removing it from the hands of irresponsible borrowers. And the actual owner will beat the shit out of the borrower to teach them a lesson for losing the ebike (confiscation).

Another inadvertent plus of requiring registration is that the ebike will be required to meet UL testing standards for both the ebike system and the ebike battery.
>>
>>29115710
>I have a small EV and it weighs 700 pounds more than a comparable car at the same size.
That doesn't seem quite right. If you compare the Citroën ë-C3 to the ICE C3 it's some 250-300kg heavier.
>>
>>29115789

this. until they have a range of AT LEAST 10000 miles all EVs are worthless.

>LICENSING WILL FIX IT

considering basically every hot youtub bodycam channel video starts with a driver rolling around with no license, insurance, let alone registration, and being about to be let go with a warning 90% of the time, i doubt that licensing will fix it.

also niggers and jeets will happily just ride gas dirt bikes, which don't attract the same sort of ire for some reason, and even many legitimate law-abiding motorcycle owners will remove or hide their plates.
>>
>>29115770
>also niggers and jeets will happily just ride gas dirt bikes
Yes, that is true. They use those bikes as getaway vehicles in lots of ambush muggings such as those at ATM.

then why do people talk about "street takeovers" in terms of race and participants, EXCEPT when EVs are involved and then they seethe about "e-bikes"?

they show up on dirt bikes and its a nigger problem, they show up on surrons and it's a surron problem.
>>

i'd say minimum when cheap ev's get a 700KM-ish range, then they can be considered because that means more expensive EV's will be in the 1000KM range
currently they are worthless in rural burgerstan

>>29119634
I never get tired of seeing people bitching about trucks. My rig is a lifted Chevy with wheel spacers, bitchin' chrome rims, LED underglow, lightbars out the ass, subwoofers, the works. Everyone and I mean everyone stops and stares mouth agape when I cruise around town. I've gotten used to the attention. I deserve it after all the work I put into my rig.
And when night hits, you bet I'm lighting up the freeway with my lightbars. I get flashed constantly and guess what, I don't give a fuck about your safety or whether you can see. My priority is my safety, my visibility, making sure I can see the path ahead, and the safety of my passengers and cargo. People with trucks like mine are always hauling something, always moving heavy material, towing a trailer, or taking the boat to the lake. It's a calling, we're hardworking men, REAL men, who built and maintain this country.
I understand why the legion of hatchback drivers that infest this board feel insecure when someone in a truck like mine bullies them out of the way. People like me have money to make and things to do, we can't be waiting around for your anemic three-cylinder to get up to speed. It's best for everyone if you just make way for a real man with a real job to get through.

So go ahead, keep coping about truck drivers. We're gonna keep working, keep this country moving, with or without your permission. I will allow you this thread to cry about your betters.
