People today drive 99% of the time as solo person in the car, with a backpack at the most with them. Despite being a full 12 inches shorter, a Rav4 for example, compared to a Camry, has nearly identical front and rear legroom and significantly more headroom and a more upright seating position although less shoulder room in back. The hatch also absolutely dwarfs the Camrys trunk and has the added utility of folding rear seats where the Camry gives you this sad little passthrough. And the difference in price is only 2600 which is only 5-8% more depending on trim.

Every crossover I've ever driven has had an awkward perch-like seating position that's impossible to make feel right no matter how I adjust the seat and they all handled like dog shit. I don't know how anyone gets 30 seconds into the test drive and still entertains the idea of buying one.
