It’s a badge that causes severe seething.
Because Nissan managed to creat some of the finest enthusiast cars in existence alongside absolute shitboxes

Maybe would've if it was before 2015-ish. Nissan has been a laughing stock for the last decade or so.

I think you may be making things up.
At this point in time I think it's just a case of nobody giving a shit about the brand.

Decent shitboxes with occasional cool Halo projects. Unfortunately their reputation in the west is ruined because they sell to the most absolute braindead subprime pavement apes.

Where’s the second S coming from ?

Probably just how Japanese readers would read it if the first characters of each word were put together.
Nihon Sangyo was written 日本産業, but if you take the the "ni" and "san", you get 日産, which in other contexts means something like "daily production output" and is read as "nissan".

Japanese is full of surprises like this since its writing not only uses Chinese characters for most Japanese native words, but in compound words they are (usually) read as approximations of Chinese syllables, sort of abbreviating the word in the process. The readings aren't always regular.

Yes the nihon is doing the same thing, sometimes it's read nippon. The reading for 日 is actually nichi but characters ending in chi or tsu often have that part dropped and instead the following consonant is extended.
