I am someone who takes care of any vehicle I own. I take pride in my things. I have a "nice" car and what some might consider a "beater". No matter its a beater, I still make it look as nice as possible despite its cosmetic short comings. It's clean inside and out.

I've long since resided myself to the fact that every time I bring my car someplace for repair, there is going to be some fuckstick who is going to fuck it up and damage it. It has happened to me so often. I've come to realize that most people are not like me, an ex-detailer with a detailed eye. So the odds you will find people who will work on your car who are as careful as you are is slim. I cover my front seat with a blanket to avoid dirt, cover the kickplate, and sometimes will wash the car before service so grit/dirt isn't on the paint to minimize damage to the paint with mechanic who might rub on it.

As far as I can tell, employees fall into one of three categorises
1. Those who truly do not give a shit about their job and don't care if they damage anything
2. Those who are not trained properly on how to do thing and might not catch any problems.
3. Those who try their best but sincerely lack a detailed eye when they fuck up, and/or do not understand the owners passion when confronted about problems.

If you aren't driving the most newest, shiny, most expensive toy, it almost feels like you are slotted into a category of "who cares" almost right away.

On my beater, windshield got fucked recently. I dreaded a replacement, it’s the second time this car has needed one. First time was okay, all things considered. Bring car to them, precleaned areas all around the fenders and windshield. Asked if they wash the cars as a courtesy, they said yes I said I don't want that. Return to car after repair, its not washed (good) but they marked up my paint so badly all across the roof near the windshield and pillars, directional marks cause by perhaps them wiping something with a dirty cloth. It’s a black car and it shows so swirls badly. I complained, and the asshole guy just could not understand what happened they claim they don’t wipe there, I said it did not look like this when I brought it in, and despite me saying I take care of my vehicles I don't expect extra damage when I bring them in, he points out "well you have some rust here (that I had touched up with a paint stick) and I got so fucking fed up with him right then and there. As if some cosmetic damage that was already there gives you a right to be sloppy. Despite his shit customer service, he paid half of my deductible as an apology, though he didn’t say sorry.

Just a few months ago, had beater my car into a garage for service. Good garage, been going there for years. Never had any problems until this year. They know not to oil things like locks and hinges on my car, I do that myself because most people are messy and spray that shit everywhere. Guess what happened? Car is an oily mess, its filthy inside, and they lightly damaged one of my headlights by leaving some rag with a solvent on it, because a part of the light is etched. I was so frustrated, owner was very apologetic and nice, offered some money off my next service. I lost the entire next day cleaning my car inside and out until it felt right again. I can’t stand people being inside my car.

And last tear, bought tires at a tire shop I used before, had no problems. Beater car this year, I get my car back, every wheel had damages to it, employee used a dremel tool to get rid of sticky weight adhesive on the back but somehow damaged the outside face of each wheel marking it up. I also had problems with the tires I bought; they were making a repetitive noise at high speed. Owner was very nice and accommodating, apologized, offered to refinish my wheels, settled for the difference on a different set of tries that were of better quality. I touched up the wheels the best I could myself, but of course the damage is still a reminder.

And this does not count all the other bullshit times like on my nice car, get transmission fluid changed, I get it back, fluid all over the fenders and bumper. Had to get nice car towed once time, tow driver put deep scrapes on my trunk lid that despite buffing are there to this day, one of those light things moved while driving. Got nice car oil sprayed years ago, employee entered vehicle with dirty hat on, ruined my clean headliner with grease. Removed it the best I could, stains are still there decades later, faintly. Shop ran my nice car through the auto car wash as a courtesy, fucked the paint all over the place (I only hand wash my cars).

Its either people don’t care at all, care to a certain extent, or care but don’t care enough.

Don't take it to a garage unless it is something serious like an automatic transmission, engine internals, or bodywork.
>They know not to oil things like locks and hinges on my car
Do they? How many customers do they see? How many techs? How much turnover.
And also, what shop even does this? Did you take it in for a "general service" of some kind?
Quite frankly it sounds like you got mad and sperged out at them one too many times.
>>
>>29117283
I can only do so much.
>a lack of self-awareness
No, I'm very aware of how I am and how others are.

>>29117294
>Do they? How many customers do they see? How many techs? How much turnover.
It's a well reviewed place, they are always busy, they know not to do that type of stuff to my car because I don't want the mess. But I guess some guy who didn't get the memo did not know, and did it.
>And also, what shop even does this? Did you take it in for a "general service" of some kind?
They do it as a courtesy. Generally making to make sure things are lubed and proper. They claim they do it for every car that comes in.
>Quite frankly it sounds like you got mad and sperged out at them one too many times.
No you're reading it wrong, been going to them for years, no issues, previous times car back with very minimal dirt on the inside, they always took decently good care of things.

I had a shop I went to for nearly 20 years. Knew the owner well, he got old and sickly, even sold me *thousands* of dollars of specialty tools for $150 when he left.
Took it there one more time afterwards. Timing belt cover fucking cracked, one of the lugs was stripped so they simply didn't put a nut on, and they left a dirty rag IN the intake box. Manual Subaru I had kept well, they didn't give a fuck. I know how to change a timing belt, was too lazy, whoops.

Customers like you are why my shop has cameras in the bays, and why we take pictures before we start working on them.

So when you come back whining about "that wasn't there when I dropped it off!" we can show you the "before" and tell you to fuck off.

Smart.

I'm a mechanic at a dealership. I can say with 100% sincerity that no one at the shop gives a fuck about complaints like this.

I will upsell you shit you don't actually need

I will leave greasy fingerprints on your car, scratch your rims when changing tires

I will not apologize if you complain

Don't like it learn to fix your own car faggot

ITT picky Karen customers that can't do it themselves and expect everyone else to tiptoe around their shitbox cars.
>>
>>29117454
Sorry to hear that.
I eventually dropped a mechanic after years of minor fuckups. He was a really nice guy but either his brain was slipping or he didnt pay close enough attention to what his staff were doing.

>>29117864
Hey fuck you, I can reverse uno that shit just as well. I had a good eye over my car before I took it into the shop to have my windshield replaced. I know how my car looked when I dropped it off, and it came back with scratches in the paint. Do I need to mention again how I am an ex-detailer?
Don't get me wrong, there are people out to scam others when they falsifying a claim of this and that happening, but I don't go out of my way to complain. I hate conflict, I don't *want* to complain, it stresses me the fuck out. I just want my car fixed and to come back to me the way it was. The problem is in OP where people simply don't have the detailed eyes I have, they don't take the time to be careful, cautious, to think, to pay attention.

>>29117871
>I can say with 100% sincerity that no one at the shop gives a fuck about complaints like this.
That's the problem. You may drive a piece of shit that you don't care about. That's fine. But you can't take that attitude when fixing someone elses car.
>scratch your rims when changing tires
>Don't like it learn to fix your own car faggot
Not everyone has a tire machine or the know how to take tries off of rims, and sometimes a do it yourselfer needs to rely on a shop. I'm not replacing a windshield.
Your attitude is piss poor and reaks of some immature zoomer.

Then fix it yourself exactly the way you want it done. Or take it somewhere and detail every little precaution you want them to take and sign a contract before they work on your car and get an absolute assrape sky-high fuckoff quote from them hoping you'll just go away because you're not worth hassling with.

Okay, and?
>every time I bring my car someplace for repair
So you don't take care of your vehicle.

That's it, cupcake.
