I drive a Honda Civic MA from 1995. The thing has only 55 miles (90 km) on the counter. It has a bit of visible rust but nothing too serious.I think i'm going legit schizo because it feels like this information exists and everyone is gatekeeping itWell I want to work on it, but the entire bottom is made out of plastic, and the owner's manual says that it can only be lifted up and supported by the pinch welds.Yet every jack and jackstand has no support for these points. I do not think it would be safe to use a regular jack and jackstands on these welds, and it is so extremely hard to find one through google because no matter what search I use, I always get recommended the basic shit jacks and jackstands from amazon. How the fuck am I supposed to lift up my car? The dumb ass at the car inspection also refused to say it, I think that he doesn't know how to lift up a car without those fancy ass lifts they use.
>>29117779ofcourse I mean 55k miles and 90K kms on the counter*

R A M PIf you need the wheels off the car you’re not under the car and you can just use a floor jack on the engine mount
>>29117782These seem so unstable on jackstands
>>29117779i put my jackstands under the pinch welds no problem OPremember the car weighs fucking nothing and the factory jack already lifts it from that point so what difference does it make?
>>29117788I used hockey pucks with a slot cut out via hacksaw. They do eventually need to be replaced, but they won't budge at all.
I’ve never used anything other than pinch welds. The pads on most jacks have 4 raised teeth and you align it so the pinch falls between the teeth. Most jackstands have a V shape that the pinch falls between. How is this a problem?
>>29117822that looks too wide to be effective for a pinch weld, no?>>29117803>remember the car weighs fucking nothing and the factory jack already lifts it from that point so what difference does it make?Because old cars aren't reliant, probably ran over a few salted roads during winter, and you do not want to bend pinch welds and expose the inner side to air and water, especially if it can open a small gap for water to get in to because you damaged it, no wonder all the cars hitting 30 years are damaged with rust these days
>>29117803factory scissor jacks have a slot so that the pinch weld itself doesn't take the weight of the car, but the area right around it instead.>>29117822>The pads on most jacks have 4 raised teeth and you align it so the pinch falls between the teeth.do you have a pic of this? Where i'm at, i've never seen any floor jack with a pad that wasn't pic related. The pinch welds would absolutely still rest on the steel part of the pad.Unfortunately auto stores also sell the stands where the V in them is just a really meager attempt at not putting full weight right on the pinch welds.
>>29117825>do you have a pic of this?Yeah. I've only had one jack in my life that didn't have the 4 raised teeth.
>>29117779>Honda Civic MAThis has got to be the shittiest car I had the courtesy to work on, because it's both made from honda parts and from rover. There are literally not much guides or manuals online.
I have a CRX with a similar setup. One jack point on the front and one on the back, 4 pinch welds along the rocker panels for stands. Your Civic is probably very similar. What has always worked for me is a floor jack, and V shaped stands like >>29117822 with some universal rubber pads. They're not heavy cars, just go slow with the jack and check a couple times to ensure they line up with the welds and you will be fine. Violently shake the car back and forth before you get under it, if there's movement then reajust. See if you can find the factory service manual online, lift points are usually frontmatter. If not I can post a few pictures from my CRX manual and it describes the procedure.
>>29117827that kind would still crush the welds on my cars, the welds are like at least 10mm tall, maybe taller.
>>29118289They are specifically made for it.
>>29118289On older Hondas you're not supposed to use a floor jack on the pinch welds. You jack it from the reinforced lift point behind the front or rear bumper then lower it onto stands.
>>29117779Harbor freight >>29117782
>>29117782These rubber ones dont really cut it. The hose and squish under the load and allow your pinch weld to contact the jack.
I have never ever had to jack on any kind of pinch weld, what the fuck? I put the jack on the frame. You know, the big steel welded tube contraption everything sits on, that's all one piece? Got big flat runs of solid loadbearing steel right there? You can find the frame right?
Here's a helpful guide; put the JACK on the FRAME idiot.
>>29118373The pinch weld is designed to support the weight of the car. Period
>>29118576Unless its rusty (many such cases)
>>29118639Valid but all these people getting concerned by a bunch of rubber to protect their precious pinch weld is begging for something to slip. Lifts pickup the car on all 4 corners at once so they aren't near as hard on the paint of pinch welds vs jacking one half of the car up and then doing the other. It's just how it is when you diy on a car.
>>29118987>concerned by a bunch of rubbershould say>concerned to a point of stacking a bunch of rubber to protect their precious pinch weldmy b
>>29118989there's not idiot pinch weld on a real frame, don't drive shit with no frame which substitutes the asshat on paper "theory of a frame" with gay math. What's next, a holographic fuckin frame?
The pinch weld should be fine, seeing as its not rusted to hell, my auto tech classes in HS had us put rubber blocks between weld and jack/stand as and additional measure though
>>29118311I know, it's just that I see people jack up the car with these types of floor jacks from those areas and it hurts to think about.thankfully my current car just has gigantic frame rails I can jack from, no pinch welds.
The jacking points on the sills are meant for the small jacks that come with the spare wheel. For a proper jack, you can lift somewhere else and then put the jack stands under the jacking points on the sills
>>29118477Some cars don't have a frame nigga. Also on one of mine the front subframe can't be reached from the front of the car even with my low profile jack because the lip is so low and the subframe so far back (it's stock). On that car I have to jack from the pinch welds (which are the factory jack points)
>>29117779I too am a perfectionist who went insane because there is no perfect solution. You can either get rubber or polyethylene jack pads in various shapes/configurations, or cut a slot in a hockey puck. Even dealerships do this, I bought a brand new Camaro with a hockey puck still attached from dealer inspection. Or use a block of wood. What I've found is basically NONE of the rubber jack pads/"pinch weld adapters" are tall enough. They are all slightly too short, putting your pinch weld at risk of bending/crushing, and putting unnecessary pressure on the paint on the bottom of the pinch weld, causing it to flake off.The reality is 99% of normgroids don't know or care about their pinch welds and replace the car within 7 years so it doesn't really get to the point of falling apart. But it won't look perfect, and that makes my head explode.

>>29119474Then you don't have a car, you have a shitcart.
>>29117784>If you need the wheels off the car you’re not under the carwhat wrenchlet nonsense is this? I do my oil change and rotate the tires at the same time.
Just put it under a hard point of the suspension like a normal fucking person. If you cant look under your car and instantly see what parts are "solid" then you shouldn't be turning a wrench anways
>>29120795oops it slipped
>>29121132Thats not from a jack.Thats an impact while driving. The rust shows it s clearly been ground down on the leading and the dent has been pushed rearward with flaring of the steel downward towards the road surface.
