Can we get a winter driving horror story thread going?
>>29119534Couple stories:Accidentally got too hammered one January Wednesday night. I had a 2024 chevy traverse z71 (new body style) loaner car at time.Snoozed my alarm and slept through the emergency alarm, ended up waking up 2 hours later than normal (7:30 instead of 5:30). Got out the door in no joke 5 minutes, then started driving way too fast to work. Going like 55 in a curve rated for 25 (but no speed limit) type deal. Hit a slick patch, understeered into a snow bank, Traverse drove straight over it. No one saw, car was totally fine. I think I had enough ground clearance that the skid plate was what hit the bank. Backed it out and kept on driving.
One time it was icy and I skidded. Not on purpose.
>>29119570Second story: have 2021 dodge charger R/T with bald “sporty” all seasons. First snow of the year was one of those spitting snows, enough to get the ground wet and cold and maybe icy but not actually enough to accumulate. 6am or so, roads seemed fine. Got a little overzealous on the throttle on the on ramp to the freeway, ended up pointed 90 degrees to my left, overcorrected to the right, then spun 450 degrees until i was pointed straight again. All this happened on an empty 4 lane freeway, and somehow I had the wherewithal to steer with throttle and not smash the brakes.Third story: 2001 ford taurus without ABS, was on an on ramp to get onto a highway. Ford Ecovan in front of me lost control and I just had nowhere to go. Oversteered somehow and slid sideways into him, somehow only fucked up the rear driver door and not any other part of the car.

I drove my car into a farm and it was steep getting back on the road. I was stuck in the cold. Some guy in a trugg pulled me out.

Little snowflake icone comes on in dashboard and I loudly said "what the hell is that". Apparently Hyundais show that icon when road conditions are icy. Gf still laughs that the Californian didn't know what a snowflake was.
>>29119908It's the same alarm chime as "something has malfunctioned in the car", and it comes on just as a temp sensor reading so like everytime it drops below 37f or something like that, so it does it kinda often in the right weather and its unnerving cuz its the same sound as if your engine was having trouble or your tires popped and the car was alerting you oregon has some wild winter weathersheets of ice on the road in the high desert

Feel like I'm about to be the center of a metal sandwich>fuckit.jpg>Start passing snow plow, sheets of snow washing across the windshield completely blinding me>Make it around snow plow and feel tremendous sense of relief to be back on a road covered in inches of fresh snow as a look in the rear view at the cluster fuck behind me>stop at the first hotel on the other side of the mountain and settle in for a cozy night with a six pack and some old movies
