why aren't these more common in America?
>>
>>29125721
Because America is bigger than Europe
>>
Europe is smaller so they work better, America is too big for them to be practical
>>
>>29125725
people can use them for their work commute.
>>
>>29125737
Not when the land is bigger
>>
>>29125737
Retarded post.
You would need bigger wheels and they wouldn't fit.
>>
>>29125721
This would be based if it was bigger
>>
Bigger lovers
>>
As a thirdie I wouldn't wish these upon my biggest enemy/rival.
>>
People saying they don't work in the US are idiots. Unless you live in a rural area I understand but even then 300+cc maxis exist. They are perfect for large cities. What it doesn't fit with is America's "keeping up with the Jonses" culture so they associate scooters with being poor (They're already poor but they don't want you to know that). So much so that they would rather sit in traffic for most of their day just to preserve their image.
>>
You will die because every car is a crossover or a retarded lifted truck
>>
>>29125721
Too easy for crackheads to steal if you don't have a garage or back yard to keep it in.
>>
>>29125788
This is winter for a majority of the United States population (primarily east coast/Midwest). Two wheels does not work well there, it's why I moved away.
>>
>>29125721
everyone in america is rich as fuck so we buy a car because it’s more useful and a fuckoff big harley for when we want motorcycle fun.
>>
>>29125721
Because you would be killed riding one.
Most American drivers are barely conscious behind the wheel.

There's quite a lot of people in California, Texas and Florida

Then you use your car during that time. You can have both, you know. I use my car to go to work and groceries but every other time I go out is done on my scooter.
>>
>>29126010
the same is true of motorcycles and plenty of amerimutts ride those

>>29126013
people in fucking CANADA ride motorcycles in winter, it's not hard

Because America is built as low density sprawl with poor zoning so your trip to grocery store happens on a 60-70mph urban highway where these can't go.
It's not just how big it is, but the fact we paved over random cow pastures to build housing on and explicitly banned any type of store from opening in that area.

People aren't going to get a vehicle that can't do highway speed in an area in which they need to be able to do highway speed.

So despite the bottom dollar price of these it's simply not an option for a lot of people. Never mind you're also fighting the american social stigma of motorcycles being so extremely dangerous that only a reckless retard would ride one.

Also Europe has a lot of walkable cities that were built many hundreds of years ago, whereas a substantial amount of American infrastructure and residential areas were built after the proliferation of the automobile.

Also riding in the rain and the cold fucking sucks and you can't carry like anything.

So for those legitimate reasons, they're unfortunately not even considered for the people in which they would actually make sense. Which is a shame, because a scooter is just about the single most fuel efficient way to move a person, and the physically smaller size goes towards alleviating traffic and parking.

Me, I'm not a loser so I ride bikes.

Probably because traffic in America moves at 80+mph (even in the city) and these things don't even do 80 km/h.

Much of Texas looks like that in the winter, and the rest of Texas will kill you in the summer without A/C

You should probably compare cities directly instead of European cities to rural American areas. Is there a single major city in the US that wasn’t built hundreds of years ago? New York and Boston were there before the US was, to name just two of many examples. Most major IS population centers were built in the 19th and early 20th century before the advent of the car. Keep in mind, it wasn’t until after WWII that most Americans had a car.
>>
>>29125723
you do know that america is smaller then europe in both in terms of size and livable areas considering most of the us is desert

im with fortnine on this. they are transparently mopeds/light motorcycles at this point. theres a lot of karen fear mongering about it but a ridiculous 2kw ebike with pedals is basically the same as owning a legit moped like picrel except it's easier to maintain

ofc though in america most places are starting to ban them because THINK OF THE CHILLUNS (real reason is because insurance companies and road pirates can't take their cut when you import an electric dirt bike off of amazon right to your front door)
>>
>>29126505
The only people in my community that I have ever seen riding bikes are
>choppers = grey-haired obese = 3%
>racebike = camo-military guys = 13%
>E-BIKE = grade-school children = 84%
>>
>>29126529
I've been to Europe. It's a different ballgame. I don't have the patience to explain the world to you.
>>
>>29126013
ah yes I can tell due to the american license plates
>>
>>29125721
Because only folks with DUIs ride them and you need at least a 150cc to actually go anywhere that's not your immediate neighborhood. At which point folks just get a motorcycle.

That being said, I miss my scooter.
>>
>>29125721
>people's commutes in America involve highway speeds
>grocery stores are distant, meaning you often pick up a whole week of groceries at once
>motorcycles are deeply culturally ingrained since WWII
>usually not fast enough to dodge our typical 16 y/o asian female drivers in BMWs in cities where they are practical
>half the country has severe weather conditions for much of the year
>they are perceived as feminine or gay

I would love to commute on a scooter for the four month's the roads aren't ice, but I would rather use that time on a motorcycle
>>
>>29127058
>>people's commutes in America involve highway speeds
You don't have to take the highway, though. At least for my commute to work a scooter only adds about an extra 20 minutes but you're having so much fun on your scooter you don't even realize it. Alternatively, you can use the scooter for anything other than work/groceries. I even got free parking every time I went to the hospital for follow visits. Shit was SO cash.
>>
>>29127110
If you are looking to have fun why not just get a motorcycle? They are only slightly more expensive.
>>
>>29125721
they’re too slow for how big the roads are and how fast people drive therefore it’s not safe to be in one until a president with balls comes along to ban cars of unusual size
>>
>>29125721
>why aren't these more common in America?
Many would-be users won't buy due to safety reasons.

Because a car is still needed to carry a large volume of things. And many women drivers will not ride on one due to fear of Fatigue crimes. China and generally the rest of Asia doesn't have Fatigue crimes (because they'd slay such criminals).

Scooters are also dangerous to ride in the USA due to distracted drivers along with the careless drivers who barely passed the very easy driver license exam.

only the moped heads at ONYX make something attractive in the space
>>
>>29125737
>people can use them for their work commute.
Too much rain for that. And then the snow and slush are also problems because OTHER cars will fling the slush onto you because you are low to the ground where all that stuff gets flung. People in a car have a car window opening pretty high off the ground so the flung water, slush, and grit never get to them But on a scooter you are subject to that.

Picture: some scooters are so physically large and heavy that they rival motorcycles.
>>
>>29126975
in most of the US a 150 cc scooter is legally a motorcycle
>>
>>29127198
it looks like every other chink pit bike frame hub motor slop bike except it has ill-fitting plastics on it
>>
>>29127122
Completely different feeling of riding. Think of them more like little 2 wheeled go karts. And before anyone mentions groms, yes I am including them too. Small bikes are just fun. Can't explain it any more than that.
>>
>>29126236
>Much of Texas looks like that in the winter
You mean the state that has it's power grid shut down when it hits freezing?
>>
>>29127195
This, How many 4x8 sheets of plywood can your scooter carry, OP? Fuck off.
>>
>>29127122
scooters are more casual sorta fun and also a lot of them have little trunks and cupholders and better pannier mounting options and stuff so they're more suitable for a commute where you have a small amount of awkwardly shaped Office Objects or have places to be before/after. you can't hoon on one unless you're one of those madmen who gets a 2smoke version and got a literal degree in rocket science to squeeze an extra 0.7hp out of it

>>29127058
the only one of these that matters is
>grocery stores are distant, meaning you often pick up a whole week of groceries at once
for Me, Personally, a scooter can work because i live less than 1km from my local big grocery store. if not i would probably want something bigger (or to just have it delivered)

but otherwise
>people's commutes in America involve highway speeds
get a maxi scooter, vespa makes a 500cc one
>motorcycles are deeply culturally ingrained since WWII
so are scooter brothers
>usually not fast enough to dodge our typical 16 y/o asian female drivers in BMWs in cities where they are practical
get a maxi scooter, vespa makes a 500cc one
>half the country has severe weather conditions for much of the year
stop being a pussy
>they are perceived as feminine or gay
most people who actually ride a scooter report that traffic is nicer to them, they have a calming effect because they look feminine and cute and a little nostalgic but are typically cheap so they trigger the Moe Reflex instead of the Ivory Tower Gay Hatred. you meet the nicest people on a honda
>>
>>29127195
the scooter rider was in the wrong here though
>>
>>29127400
No
>>
>>29127110
>You don't have to take the highway, though.
This is how we know you don't live in the US.
>>
>>29125721
>why aren't these more common in America?
People are too afraid of getting run over when riding these. There are a LOT of uninsured aliens and bad drivers out there.

Those tiny scooter wheels do not potholes and wavy pavement. If you're turning or braking and the tiny front wheel hits one of these, you can be jolted to the side at risk of wiping out in traffic and having a car roll over you.

>>29127385
>in most of the US a 150 cc scooter is legally a motorcycle
Even a 50cc scooter qualifies in my state. So there's no point in getting a 50cc scooter here because 150cc is the sweet spot in getting a scooter whose engine isn't stressed out.
>>
>>29125721
everyone's saying "because America is bigger" is retard. There are two hundred million plus Americans living in dense urban areas where these would be extremely practical. They're not popular because we're RICH and almost everyone can afford a car and almost everyone prefers a car.
>>
>>29126013
Skill issue, I've rode in blizzard conditions worse than that as a motorcycle courier
>>
>>29126529
US cities that developed after the car and/or in the west are a lot more sprawled out than anything in euroland. Phoenix is a good example of this, its population was like 100k in 1950. now it's ~4m.
it's easier and cheaper to just keep building outward than it is to build up. (Pretty much anything west of the Mississippi or south of Mason Dixon was pretty small until the car and air conditioning -- with a few notable exceptions like SF)
>>
>>29127894
>primarily the east coast/midwest
we have road salt, retard, i ride all year
>>
>>29127793
In Florida you can get from Miami to Tampa all by city streets if you wanted to. Look up what a megalopolis is.
>>

>>
>>29127894
>"because America is bigger"
this oml i cant possibly get from one side of my suburb to the other on a 250cc 2 cylinder 2stroke
>>
>>29128145
>driving from tampa to miami at 27mph
nobody wants to though, and you aren't fooling anybody into believing they do
>>
>>29128522
That isn't the point and you know it. Don't do that.
>implying all scooters only go 30 mph
Retard. Modern liquid cooled 150cc scooters can hold 65 all day.
>>
>>29125721
The top speed of a 50cc will impede traffic on regular roads, and takes a good 15 20 seconds to get there.
When you up the cc to 150-250, you are competing against the used car market where you have a trunk and 4 seats. Not to mention the faggotry image of being seen on one of these.
They simply just doesn't work in America.
400cc Sport bike is entry level to get on the freeway. 650cc is where things start to make sense. But, at 650, you are making a lifestyle choice and money that could get you a reasonable used sports car.
