Riddle me this:
If an i4, an i6 and a v8 have comparable capacities and rpm ranges why does the v8 need it's sparks replacing more often when each cylinder fires at half the frequency of the i4. And why does the i4 fail sooner than the i6?

>And why does the i4 fail sooner than the i6?
it doesn't because the only company still making i6 engines only builds them to last the length of a typical german lease period before needing a full engine out bottom end job

>meanwhile, the humble 3+ liter speed-density american v6 running on 2 and a half cylinders with negative oil pressure

>why does the v8 need it's sparks replacing more often when each cylinder fires at half the frequency of the i4
wut. i've never heard of this, are you thinking of v8s that have two spark plugs per cylinder?
>>
>>29125940
If it has two sparks per cylinder surely they need replacing half as much again?

>If it has two sparks per cylinder surely they need replacing half as much again?
The sparks don't alternate, if that's what you're thinking.

Each cylinder fires once per two crankshaft rotations. Doesn’t matter if you have 1,4,8, or 16 cylinders. the same rpm means the same number of sparks per cylinder.
>>
>>29125951
as the other anon said, they both fire at the same time for improved combustion

You are never going to convince anyone of this. note that many distributorless systems fire also on the exhaust stroke because crank position is crank position.

Nice try Riddler, it's clear your mechanical acumen is lacking. How about you riddle this for me instead?
>V8s have used sequential firing systems for decades from mechanical distributors to coil per plug
>Inline 4s and V6s in comparison have used wasted spark setups for decades up to the turn of the 21st millenium
>This means sparkplugs are fired more than sequential setups like those on thr V8s
>Inline 6s hardly used wasted spark systems, making them last longer than Inline 4s as they don't fire at twice the rate per plug
>So if Inline 6s last better, and they use the same firing system than V8s, what else could be contributing to sparkplug failure?

I will give you a hint, Edward: it's all in the electrode. America's finest. Burns twice as bright and twice as fast, but you won't be running fast enough to escape the hood of the Batmobile's Hemi Supercharged V8.
