Are paint chips acceptable on a new car? Am I being petty for asking the dealership to fix this? The car is worth $47 ,000.
>>
Don't buy a car from a dealership that gives you any pushback on fixing the paint on a new car. Walk right out the door.
>>
>>29126401
On a brand new car? That's pretty shoddy.
>>
Honda?
>>
>>29126407
This.
You will get a lot of opinions.
Mines is that you should never be bother by anything you are going purchase/purchased.
If it doesn't feel right, just leave. Have some respect for yourself, your money, your hardship, and your time.

Dealership is making me feel like an asshole for pointing this out to them. I called them and they don't even answer or call back.

>Have some respect for yourself, your money, your hardship, and your time.
This. Businesses acting like they're too good for you don't deserve your business.
>>
nah that's unacceptable to be honest.
most companies would be issuing statements telling dealerships to fix that shit if they had any self respect. like hondas or some shit when the trunk paint was peeling near the window glass a few years back.
>>
>>29126401
this reminds me, a portion of the parking lot in my nearby mall is used by a joint subaru/vw car dealership to park fleets of their new vehicles and so many of them are covered in bird poop. I honestly feel sorry for whoever is buying cars from them
>>
>>29126401
i think you learned an important lesson desu. dealerships are FAR more accommodating before you sign.
>>
>>29126401
It was repainted once, car has been in a wreck.
>>
>>29126417
Fuck em, go to a different one. You're doing them a favor by wanting to buy the vehicle
>>
>>29126442
This. There's probably three-five more Dodge dealers in your city alone. Go to one of them, tell them what happened at the first one, and watch them jump to do better.
>>
>>29126440
What makes you say that? I seriously can't tell. The odometer said 24 miles so it was completely new to my eyes.
>>
>>29126451
Could have been hit while parked.
>>
>>29126401
NO.
>>
>>29126417
yeah well fuck those faggots.
tell them you're going to let corporate decide for them.
>>
>>29126462
That is what I was thinking. The chipped paint seems uniform around the grill and bumper like someone nudged it slightly.
>>
Shipping damage isn't as uncommon as you think.
The carrier doesn't secure it properly and it rolls or shifts in transit, smashing into something. Most dealerships are complete fucking scum and will send it to a bodyshop to get fixed on the down low so that the repair never shows up on services like Carfax, then they'll toss it out on the lot as a brand new car.
The litmus test is noticing the fix, and any dealer with even a shred of integrity will immediately own up to it and take some money off the price of the car. This is not good enough, and you should demand that price for an unfucked example, but your dealer failed right at step one with a shoddy repair they're refusing to admit to. I give that thing one winter before half the paint on the bumper is gone.
>>
>>29126417
They will do everything in their power to distract you from your goal to get it fixed. No matter what they so or say, remember your bottom line and your goal. If they don't return your calls go down there, call the HQ of the brand while you are there escalate things until get you what you need. If all else fails, lemon the car. You are the only one that will stand up for yourself.
>>
>>29126417
Give them a abysmal review shaming them for it with proof
>>
it's not even like those aren't in a noticeable spot, they're literally right under the headlights on the front of the car..
>>
>>29126401
car paint is really soft, check for rust spots on the roof.
>>29126411
its teh brand new car experience
>>
>>29126451
The paint isn't chipped, it got scratched when someone was putting those back trim pieces, happens all the time with cheap paint and rushed jobs. One thing is for sure it's not OEM paint, even the shittiest manufacturers have quality paint

My grandparents are proper richfags but dress like beach bums. Like in the 70s they got told off by multiple pretentious faggots at a jag dealership and ended up going to the one actually British salesman who worked there and bought their car from him then followed him to Range Rover then Bentley. Any sales related business business who preemptively disregards you is a shit outfit. OP should legit insult these people and degrade them. It's a fucking Dodge and those retards are struggling, they're in no position to guilt trip someone over their own production fault.
>>
>>29126451
Cars get damaged in dealer lots or during transport. They'll just fix them in house and sell them as new.
>>
>>29126401
>The car is worth $47 ,000.
No it's not. That's what they're asking for it. It's worth about $35k because they've been making the durango unchanged for over a decade.
>>
>>29126419
>mouthbreathing Texan goes into Brooklyn

>they've been making the durango unchanged for over a decade
That's what's so great about them. They're over a decade behind in the "How fucked can we make new cars?" race.
>>
as a dodge owner myself those look like damage from removing the grille, perhaps to install the blackout package part? either way the dealer caused it and you should be able to get them to pay
>>
>>29126961
the cool thing about them is they are based on the 1st gen merc ml without all the gay 90s merc shit so they're stupid reliable. '14+ models with the pentastar are practically immortal
>>
>>29126968
NOTHING with a rentastar is even close to immortal unless you consider an oil filter housing to be a routine wear item.
>>
>>29126401
Take your business elsewhere.
I'd wager it's been lightly damaged and they've done a dodgy quick fix. Look for any other signs of damage/replaced parts all around the areas with chips.
>>
>>29126963
>perhaps to install the blackout package part
Lol man I'd kill myself

>>29126983
the oil cooler assembly post-2013 is perfectly fine, early ones had weak exchanger interface seals that melted under high heat caused by the other pentastar flaw which is thermostat silent failure, itself a product of nigger-tier cooling system neglect and ignorance of the warning signs.

when owned by white people the pentastar is utterly invincible and runs forever.
>>
>>29126811
What they are actually worth and what dealerships sell them for are two different things. I had a dealership try to sell me a V8 plus for $54k. $10k for some leather seats and a sunroof. I promise you wont find a 2026 durango for $35k anywhere.
>>
>>29126451
Brand new cars will be driven around at times during transportation and around the dealer lot as needed. If it's a nice car they might've taken it for a joyride around the block. Sometimes the cars have accidents of varying severity at some point during this and unless the car is unfixable the dealership will just fix it without telling anyone, depending on how skilled they are and how much they care they might do a better or worse job. But long story short yes it's possible to get a brand spanking new straight from the factory car that's already been hooned, crashed and repaired.

Car doesn't even have to be driven to be damaged, it happens all the time during transport, doubly so if you've got a ton of jeet truck drivers who are reckless with their loads.

there is no primer under that paint. looks like somebody did a crap job at repainting it, factory isnt going to do that. see how it cracks and chips off, factory paint with primer would scratch and mar, not crack and chip like that.

Kek

No amount of advice given to will help.
>>
>>29126401
that's fucked up but why are you considering a white SUV? you're going to get hassled as a potential rentoid to ticket
>>
>>29126992
"Blackout package" is even funnier because generally the base models get unpainted black plastics as a cost cutting measure... Then you uptrim to make them painted, then you pay even more to make them look like the black plastic base model...
>>
>>29127164
well you are paying really for the black wheels and badges, the base model grille has chrome on it
>>
>>29127140
this isn't true, the primer used on plastics is not the same as the primer used on metal
>>
>>29126401

I paid for ONE Jeep.

>Are paint chips acceptable on a new car?
No, it's new. You're supposed to get a new car, not a damaged new car.

Every other industry that sells damaged new goods (which they call factory seconds) places a steep discount of a product that doesn't pass muster.
