What would you get as a no limits fun car with a $16K-$20k budget?

I daily an X3 which is fun enough for the weekends and going up to the mountains too but it's not THAT fun. I have a Lexus HS as a reliable fallback vehicle so I can accept getting an unreliable project car.

I'm thinking of importing few 90s Japanese turbos, either a Nissan Leopard XJ-II V6 turbo, a gen 1 Toyota Aristo 2JZ-GTE or a Y33 Cima turbo. My gf wants to get a 370Z or an R34 Skyline sedan. We both think the Y34 Gloria turbo is cool.
>>
>>29126599
yeah bud you're going to get the 1 and only F30 leopard in America so you can have zero parts availability for your 40 year old Japanese turbo car

About 16,000-20,000 of them were sold in the US as an Infiniti. They weren't super common but I still see them out in the wild in California where most were sold 30+ years later. There are two I see regularly in my area on and off. They're not hard to own if you're on the west coast and have disposable income. The Nissan X31 platform has a huge aftermarket.
>>
>>29126647
So just buy the infinity then

Well let's be honest with ourselves here, if you're asking 4chan you'll never do it anyway.

While I like the F31, the Z20 Soarer looks better in every way and has a nicer interior. The Leopard looks like a shitbox in comparison.

Based video.

Mine just has a little turbo on it but it won't die. Going on 230k miles. Bought it 4 years ago with 85k miles from a grandma. Drove it across the USA and Mexico. It is way more fun to have a shitbox you can beat the fuck out of than a really nice $50k car.

Honestly, go for something you can maintain easily. I do not know what that would be in America, but surely something domestic. If it has to be foreign, then maybe a Sandero RS if those are available?

Giulia would be a great choice if it's going to be your only car. You can get a QV for around $20-25k on the low end these days from Japan. A 2.0t is around $10k or less with low-ish miles. 300hp, RWD, great handling, reliable, nice and comfy.
Also just saw this s15 spec r sell for $20k: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/s1247054512
I think a Eunos cosmo manual swap would be a cool car.
You can get a caged mr2 turbo for around $11k
https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/v1242749993
GTOs also look cool and AFAIK all JDM models are AWD, so you can get a low-spec version that should be less of a headache and save some money, or get a twin turbo around your budget.
>>
>>29126910
forgot, 130i is also a cheap/fun choice. RWD, inline-6, manual transmission, cheap. Downsides: McDonald's and they're ugly.

Triumph Spitfire or MG Midget, the rest on parts and maintenance.
Had a Spitfire 1500 and it was like a slow, street legal go kart. Everyone loves them, too. You can't stop for gas without some grandma walking up and telling you how she got fingerbanged in one at Woodstock.
You also get to/have to learn about the "intricacies" of British car design. Easy to fix but always needs fixing and special parts/fluids.

I actually know what it's like to own a 40 year old turbo Japanese unicorn car which is why I'm telling you that if there's a similar car that was domestically produced you should go that route instead and if you're too much of a wrenchlet to turbo the VG30e yourself then you're too much of a wrenchlet to own a VG30DET anyway because guess what - 40 year old turbo Japanese cars run like shit and you're going to have to redo everything anyway.

You sound irrationally angry about not being able to maintain your car. I like how the Jap version looks more and that it comes with a factory turbo and redoing everything is part of the fun. The M30 wasn't domestically produced in the US you monsterous retard. If you were literate you could see that I already have a newer daily and a basic boring hybrid second car I can always rely on and this is meant to be a fun project. Stop being a butthurt bitch you joyless turd.

It had 95K Miles on the odometer, an insane deal imo.
I remember seeing a 200k mile Focus RS for 13k somewhere a few weeks back, and there are plenty examples of 130k+ mile ones. So I think this engine has a lot of life left in it as long as I keep it at stock power levels. Its plenty fast as it is.
