This graph talks about both. Explain to me the difference what a "car SUV" is versus a "tuck SUV". With examples
>>29126933A car SUV is a large crossover. A Kia Telluride is a car SUV. A Tahoe is a truck SUV.
>>29126933a truck SUV is something like a Ford explorer
>>29126935Thanks. Which of these are car or truck SUVs?Toyota 4runnerNissan ArmadaNissan Pathfinder Land Rover Discovery Cadillac Lyriq (is it even an SUV ?)Acura MDXInfiniti QX80Jeep Grand Cherokee (Long wheelbase version)
Id imagine anything body on frame is a "truck suv" anything unibody is a "car suv"
>>29126940Explorers used to be SUV's but they're crossovers now. >>29126941The 4Runner and the Armada/QX80 are truck SUV's. Everything else is a crossover. It's debatable if a BOF SUV with IRS is a truck SUV but I guess in this day and age they get a pass.
>>29126933You faggot, it says right in your image:>Classification as per regulatory definitions outlined in EPA reportThe EPA report is here: https://www.epa.gov/automotive-trends/highlights-automotive-trends-report>This report further disaggregates vehicles into five vehicle types: sedan/wagon, car SUV, truck SUV, pickup truck, and minivan/van. The distinction between car and truck SUVs is based on the regulatory definitions of cars and trucks, such that SUVs that are four-wheel drive or above a weight threshold (6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight) are generally regulated as trucks and classified as truck SUVs for this report. The remaining two-wheel drive SUVs are subject to car standards and classified as car SUVs.
>>29126943Non-photoshopped version
>>29126960explorer should get a pass because it is RWD. crossovers are all FWD or FWD biased AWD.
>>29127075Nah. It being RWD biased doesn't make it not a crossover. It still doesn't have a proper transfer case and it's unibody with IFS/IRS.
>>29127083then it should be called a wagon. since it is basically a car with a third row hatch.
>>29127107The title for my 1986 fullsize Bronco says >Body Type: 3Door Wagon
>>29127003Still would
>>29126933Before all the marketing faggots ruined words, an SUV was a body on frame vehicle. Often based on a truck. A crossover is a unibody vehicle not matter how fat it gets.
>>29126941>Toyota 4runnerBody on frame (shared with the Tacoma), FR/4x4 layout makes it a "truck SUV">Nissan ArmadaBody on frame (shared with Titan), FR/4x4 layout, truck SUV>Nissan PathfinderNewer ones are unibody, transverse-engined, FWD/AWD, making them a "car SUV". The older ones shared a similar body on frame, FR/4x4 layout as the Frontier making them the older models truck SUVs>Land Rover DiscoveryThe older ones up until 2004 used a body on frame layout with a solid rear axle, after that they became unibody with independent rear suspension more akin to a Range Rover making them more "car SUV". In this case, both are still reasonably good off roaders with 4x4 and low range which starts to blur the differences, however the more hardcore will always go for the older, more solidly constructed models.>Cadillac Lyriq (is it even an SUV ?)Unibody, shared EV crossover/car chassis, car SUV>Acura MDXUnibody, transverse-engined, FWD/AWD, car SUV>Infiniti QX80Body on frame, based on the Armada (Nissan's Land Cruiser), FR/4x4 layout, truck SUV>Jeep Grand Cherokee (Long wheelbase version)Unibody (traces it's lineage to the Giulia/Stelvio Giorgio platform kek), FR/4x4 layout, car SUVEveryone has a different legal classification but IMO it comes down to the actual construction. You can have a very off road capable offroader that's a car SUV, for instance (i.e. Range Rover), and a truck SUV that might just be 2WD. It's not just offroad prowess however, as even a 2WD truck SUV still will have things like a towing capacity that far exceeds that of any car SUV simply due to it's heavier duty construction. It also starts to get blurred since normies will commonly just buy these (all larger "SUVs") since they have more seats for kids, and for that type of normie the only thing they'll likely notice going from something like a Tahoe to a Highlander will be better MPG.
>>29127313Thanks OP, you da real MVP for this descriptive post. Here's a little gift. Smell her.
