Toyota finally got the styling right for the new Land Cruiser. It looks like a luxury version of a classic Land Cruiser.
>>

Yeah it’s just missing the solid front axle, nothing different than any other slop SUV at this point

Same, a Land Cruiser should have a v8, no exceptions. I like the body style eaually to the 80 series, and aside from all the techbloat I like the GX a lot. Fucking shame.
>>
Why should it have a V8? So you can get to Costco quicker?
>>
>>29131483

Unlike Land Rovers, Land Cruisers are reliable & will last decades easily, people will be buying these used for offroading in 10-20 years.
>>

Okay, that doesn't suggest why they need a V8

That's less determined by reliability and more determined by repairability.
The electronic systems in modern cars will probably end up being the worst part of trying to get these cars back on the road in the future.

I hope they make carburetor swaps for all these new direct injection engines.
>>

Sadly this. It's just a generic mallcrawler luxo-barge. Anyone buying it is buying it because they're the "tough" guy at their faggot office corporate job.

current US Market Landcruiser and GX share the smaller platform with the Landcruiser Prado, which has never in its 40+ years of production ever been offered with a V8.

the 349hp Twin Turbo V6 in the GX is the most powerful engine ever offered in the Prado series.

Van V6's are such a cope engine. The should either be an i6 or v8

Everything they make is just a sad imitation of the modern GOAT. They will NEVER make another FJ because we're not allowed to have anything nice anymore.
>>
>>29131453
V8s for the Sequoia and Tundra, and n/a V6s for their larger sedans and minivans and even the 4runner and Tacoma would be nice.
Insane that Toyota basically replaced every (reliable) V8 with a shitty V6 turbo, and every (reliable) n/a V6 with a shitty 4cyl turbo.
>>29131483
So you can get to Costco continuously, many, many times over without a hitch until the frame rusts out. The new motors are already proving not as reliable as their older, more basic shit.

Toyota actually did resurrect the Land Cruiser FJ in 2026, but they don't sell it in Europe or North America.

Fuck Toyota. I hate all their cars except the yellow Prius Hybrid and the Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Hybrid.

People who do real off-roading, purchase used $30k CAD Toyota SUVs from 10 years ago (RAV4, 4runner, Sequoia) then modify it with gear worth another $10-15k CAD (bigger tires for ground clearance, better shock absorbers, lights, camp gear, first aid, tire deflater pumps, heaters, transmission refurbishments, etc.)

99.5% of people who purchase a brand new 2026 Toyota 4Runner/Sequoia/Land Cruiser/RAV4/Tacoma/Tundra will ever use it for off-roading. These 2026 cars will be used in 2040s for off-roading by future generations.

>I wish they would offer a V8 for this thing.
I don't know what to tell you, but if you want a V8 4x4 SUV, you should probably acquire one sooner than later. That segment is slowly going extinct and you can't buy new used cars as far as I know.

With that said, there's lots of people that think they want to aspire to this type of vehicle, only to get sticker shocked at how much fuel a V8 Toyota drinks stock, and how it costs around 2x-3x to run and maintain compared to a crossover.

That's more a testament to how much more efficient modern cars have gotten by sacrificing a lot of the capability that people didn't use in a SUV anyways.

>I just want a 4x4 SUV with a diesel V8 that's good for offroading
Are diesel v8s everywhere on of road trails and parks? Why would you want a 2000lb engine for an offroader?
Think about who even makes a v8 diesel. Ford, gm, and dodge. They have massive turbos and need a 3/4 ton chassis just to fit. Ever wonder why brodozers are rarely taken off road?

I'm guessing you'll never consider a single cab 4x4 pickup to suit your wants because it's exactly what you described but horrifically bad for reasons you don't understand

Outside of the US, yeah. Up until 2024 you could still buy a brand new Toyota SUV or pickup with a diesel V8.

Low gearing and a lack of revs means it's hard to get any momentum or wheelspeed. If diesel was good off road rock bouncers would be running diesel engines. Crawling is for babies.

the whole interior will stop working since the ecu is either integrated with the bcm or is the bcm. you'll need to custom wire most of the interior to carb swap, and someone skilled enough to do that will probably also wire in an aftermarket ecu because carbs suck dick
>>
>>29134220
Aftermarket efi is cool and all until it fails because of some undiagnosable intermittent voltage spike and youre stuck with no replacement parts for 200 miles.
If you hate carburetors you probably only ever had a quadrajet that was filled with dirt, a holley that sat for 15 years, or one of those ford VV things. Try an edelbrock or a motorcraft 2100 and get back to us.

What is with this obsession with "offroading" vehicles in the NA market? How many people are really offroading to the point that we have "offroad" variants of shitbox CUVs like the nu-RAV4 and even the fucking Nissan Kicks. Why are retards spending money on this shit instead of making more comfortable cars with door handles
>>
>>29134527
Are you retarded?

I know Europe is just one big concrete parking lot filled with Muslims and Africans but the USA is MASSIVE. It has dense forests, each containing hundreds of thousands to million+ acres. It has huge salt flats arid deserts, multiple massive mountain ranges that even the tallest mountains in Europe can't come close to. It has states with massive snowfall to the point where infrastructure can shut down for days at a time.

The most famous off road trails are literally all in the United states

>>
>>29134584

>>
>>29134586
It doesn't know what it wants to be. INEOS should split it into two distinct models, not just marginally different trims. One is fully analog. No screen, no CarPlay, no bullshit, just keep it street legal with the air bags. The other is essentially like the Wrangler Sahara, give it nice seats, a decent screen, better sound system. The steering wheel is silly and the columns are too small. The aircraft cockpit centre console is trying too hard to look more serious than it is. The interior is too cheap for the base price, especially on the doors. There's no storage for emergency supplies in the trunk unlike e.g. on the L663 Defender 110 which can fit everything from an air compressor to first aid, blankets, food, etc., all underneath the trunk without slapping any stuff on the outside and affecting stock geometry. The engine is mostly fine, but I'm still suspicious of turbos. Rear seat space is paltry, especially for adults. It just feels like they're trying to tow the middle line too much and should lean in fully either to "this is the old Defender but street legal, that's it" or "this looks like the old Defender but has far more creature comforts. Do both. Right now they're doing neither.

Most people just like the look of the off road trims with some A/T's. A lot of people are into camping/hiking/MTB these days and it's nice having some ground clearance and tire peace of mind to get to the more remote trailheads and campsites.
>>
>>29134527
Nobody is offroading a 100k new vehicle, it's a complete larp. Real offroaders usually have old 4x4 shitboxes they've modified.

spotify control without getting a ticket for messing around with your phone in stricter enforcement areas, live map data that doesn't cost anything more than you already pay your carrier (you can get live data on a lot of manufacturer software, but you'll pay for access past the first few years), you know it will be updated by a software company you trust enough to buy a phone with, and you don't have to log in or learn a new platform.

The real trick would be to get a 3x2bbl manifold and mount the lawnmower carb+cheater in the middle, that way you'd get both acceptable power and insane gas mileage.
I'll do that one day.

>>29135307
I had it on my car. Absolutely fucking fantastic value for the price. It made tuning the carb actually fun rather than a chore. Once I had it dialled in, the auto-tune feature took care of the rest.
Version 2.0 of the app came out a month or two ago, and it now has a really cool feature where you basically turn on datalogging, then drive around normally, roll into the throttle, give it a WOT pull or two, then finish it, and it'll look at the readings and let you know if you need to make adjustments to your cruise and power circuit AFRs. It's still a beta function, but it's really good for making a quick and dirty summary of what's going on.

probably the most complicated parts of the install are, in no particular order
>figuring out where you're going to run the wiring
>deciding a nice spot preferably away from heat to stick the computer unit on
>drilling a hole in the exhaust for the O2 sensor clamp/bung
But once you get it set up, it's almost completely reversible/removable. If you've had enough with the car it's installed on, just unhook everything then transfer it to a different car. You'd have to prep the exhaust again for the O2 sensor though.
There's more plans in the future for other features as well, it might even let you display coolant temps, oil pressure/temp readings etc. May unironically end up being a super budget version of those haltech digital dash displays that'll run off a burner android phone or something lol
