Is the short wheelbase and rwd hot hatch as dangerous as top gear made it out to be?

I think you got these as a Chrysler in the US.

The RWD sunbeams specifically weren't a thing in the US, yanks got the FWD dodge omni in various flavours of fun.

They were Rootes AMC Talbot as you say Dodge all in the space of a few years. I still think of them as Hillman because the Hunter is under that shell.

You can wreck FWD car too...
>>
Yes. Especially with that much power and the driver aids off. Short wheelbase will kick the rear out quickly and can't hold as big of angles as longer wheelbases without spinning out. That's why the miata is so squirrely and kicks the rear out but you never see them at drift shows - they can't hold those huge slip angles with the short wheelbase.

This.

Top gear is lies for boomers and car lifestyle tourists.
Chris Harris is the only presenter they have had that can actually drive well, Clarkson, May and Hammond were total ham-fisted retards.

Wheelbase is only one factor, weight bias and suspension design has a huge impact. Just look at the difference between 80's 911 and now, the big change was the kinematics of the rear end, wheelbase is still as short as ever.

Yes, something that's harder to slide without spinning out takes more skill.
Doesn't mean that it isn't more dangerous in general.

It's got no LSD and you can easily remap it to 400 bhp with no other modifications. It's also dirt cheap so it's a recipe for disaster.
>>
>>29132835
it's a paki car actually

The supra mk5 has a pretty short wheelbase and is RWD
The danger is that if it oversteers, it isn't a gradual rotation, it's kind of instant, so you have to react to it fast.

Let's imagine that it didn't have any driver aids on.
You're accelerating to the 75mph highway speed from an on-ramp, in the rain.
As you're switching lanes the left wheels encounter a warped dip in the road. Rear left suspension unloads slightly after the bump. You happened to be just going into the turbo in 4th, that unloaded-for-a-millisecond left rear wheel suddenly gets sent all of the torque because open diff. The revs go crazy, your noob ass doesn't have this in muscle memory, so the rear snaps quickly past a recoverable angle and you end up doing a 360 into a barrier when you were only trying to get on a straight highway.

For how many owners I've seen like that, the M140i gotta be fairly safe otherwise they'd be extinct.

Stability control was mandatory by the time it came out and was already at the point where it had both individual braking, yaw control, and it ignores throttle inputs when slip is detected as well. I'd imagine that pulling the ABS fuse would make it very dangerous and fun by extension.
