welp, they tried to resurrect Oldsmobile's brand image and it was a noble attempt but defeated by the GM bean counters
>>
>>29138359
"I know just what we'll do. We'll cost-cut our way to prosperity!" -Every GM executive ever
>>
I don’t know what you’re talking about. add details.
>>
Those beanboys done hit it with the ugly stick.
>>
>>29138367
what he said. The Aurora was meant as a fully updated premium car for the 90s to take on the ES-300 and Mercedes E-Class and had great promise, but GM cheaped out and it became a half-baked turd instead.
>>
>>29138370
ohh. I thought he was talking about today in 2026. fuck no wonder I was confused by that old car in the OP and what that had to do with any kind of resurrection now
>>
>>29138366
GM just couldn't handle the strange new world they faced in the 80s-90s when they had more competition than just Ford and Chrysler. Life was easy in the 50s when they had unlimited money and no real rivals.
>>
>>29138359
>GM shitbox poster posts again
>old
>mobile
>meanwhile its competition during the same time period with a similar price
Acura Legend. No wonder GM stank during the 1990s
>>
same with the 95-02 Continental. it meant well but failed to deliver on its promises as a Lexus-fighter.
>>
>>29138378
the Town Car was already beating the lexus anyway. that was Lincoln's flagship.
>>
>>29138378
>FWD transverse V8
was why
>>
>>29138375
thank god Honda made a kick ass AWD system and DCT to set themselves apart. old acura was just honda with leather.
>>
>>29138380
Town Car owners were old as shit, bro. the average age was like 70. they weren't getting the hip 40 year old businessman or lawyer audience with those things.
>>
>>29138385
Lexus owners are just as old as the average lincoln owner. I don't know where people got the idea that Lexus was hip. only BMW attracts young (brown) buyers.
>>
>>29138378
on the other hand, Ford made Pic related, which absolutely kicked ass. beautiful inside and out and rode like an absolute god with the top speed you'd expect from a high end coupe.
>>
>>29138385
The platform was also old as shit, it was a 70s museum piece.
>>
>>29138390
>0-60 in 7 seconds
Okay, not bad.
>quarter mile in low-mid 15s
I assume that there's a big ratio gap between gears 2 and 3.
>>
>>29138395
if it ain't broke, don't fix it. 70 series land cruisers are old, and you see retards paying 100k for those. toyota centuries are old, and you see weebs gushing over those.

The town car was perfect and didn't need to change. its sales reflected that.

>I don't know where people got the idea that Lexus was hip
yeah, that's why the youth today are enjoying these old Lexus and everyone still remembers them today. Unlike crappy old GM cars
>>
>>29138402
No one remembers the GM cars yet you're responding to someone talking about Lincoln ass blasted at GM. sounds like they're quite remembered to me.
>>
>>29138378
the Navigator finally rescued Lincoln and had some cool factor with people born after 1940
>>
>>29138402
>Unlike crappy old GM cars

only the trucks and Corvette retained any cache
>>
>>29138406
to be fair anon, old Lexus cars are super popular on social media today- even internationally. GM cars from the same era? Not really
>>
>>29138390
nice effort but the market for premium coupes had disappeared by then
>>
>>29138416
i'm am fine with social media browns stancing and destroying old lexus for clout while boomers preserve old american luxury cars. it's the reason why you can find 30 year old vettes in damn near perfect condition all day but most poopras, FDs, and now Skylines are being destroyed.

You can keep your young money nigga-boo crowd.
>>
>>29138414
B-body and G-bodies are sought after as well. look up the last RWD Impala SS value. even Turd gens have sold for triple digits. honestly, there's a lot of nostalgia for anything RWD GM.

ah so the GM poster finally comes out. A seething poorfag at that. While everyone else enjoying their cars. Last I remembered, the same browns you despise assembled your precious shit tier GM
>>
>>29138414
same as back then. nothing cool about a Lumina and the Cavalier was for poor people and most were trashed by their owners.
>>
>>29138425
I'm the Lincoln poster. i'm assuming you're seething at GM because a camaro shat over your precious yaris GR while it blew its third engine trying to make a left turn or something.
>>
>>29138378
The Continental's average owner age was like 62 compared to the Town Car's 70, it was not a big improvement.
>>

2.79 MB WEBM
these losers really think boomers are still preserving their old American cars in near perfect condition. Delusional and out of touch
>>
>>29138431
you have to remember that most of those 90s grandmaboxes like the Town Car and LeSabre, after their aged owners died or quit driving, they were sold to trailer trash and ghetto blacks who beat the shit out of them
>>
>>29138428
havent seen a Camaro on the street in ages my guy. Do people even drive that shit anymore? Where do you even buy one
>>
>>29138431
they are. corvettes aren't "cool" like JDM is. no one cares if you drive a C5. that won't get attention like a stanced S2Gay or Poopra. for every what, one corvette that gets crashed, there are 10 crashes in a GR86 somewhere by some broccoli head. the supply of GR86s will dry up faster than the supply of C5 vettes despite the C5 being much older simply because most young people don't think vettes are cool. they think "pushrods" and "leaf springs" and go "ewww, my dad drove that".
>>
>>29138430
And Cadillac was even worse.
>>
>>29138432
and yet, they still out number lexus on the rode who are bought by the same ghetto blacks but also have no boomer preserving them at all. there will still be fresh town cars. there will always be the Jay Lenos of the world who think those cars are worth preserving. not many people feel the same about the Lexus because it doesn't have the same history. Lexus history is just "great value mercedes". when Toyota tried to finally give Lexus a brand identity with the predator grill and LFA it failed miserably.
>>
>>29138402
Yuck.
>>
>>29138441
the 90s sadly had that whole end-of-history vibe to it where everyone stopped trying to excel or push themselves anymore
>>
>>29138432
he thinks is still 2002 when you could find mint Town Cars with 20k miles owned by an 80 year old who recently died
>>
>>29138441

a lot of these GM shitcans were there to keep UAW lines busy and fulfill dealer contracts
>>
>Oldsmobile's brand image
>it was already FWD commuter slop by the '90s
>>
>>29138366
Chrysler, same problem. The new 90s lineup looked cool and futuristic but were built on a $20 budget and were mostly ass.
>>
>>29138456
The real problem was that if you wanted to seriously take on the premium sedan market, only V8 RWD would suffice, which is what the LS-400 and Mercedes did do.

>>29138378
>>29138359
V8s, yes, but FWD and the Northstar was a sadly bugged engine.
>>
>>29138408
lazy as fuck (>slapping woodgrain and leather seats in an Expedition) but it worked
>>
>>29138359
Never been in an Aurora and they were a rare sight back in the day but I did ride in an Intrigue once and it was pretty nice.
>>
>>29138462
honda did that with the accord and made the legend.
>>
>>29138462
SUVs were cooler than sedans by that point and generally had a younger audience. The Navigator ended up getting more orders at first than Ford could meet because they weren't expecting the level of demand it got.
>>
>>29138478
it was the first Lincoln since the Mark VII that anyone younger than 60 bought and did revitalize the brand for as lazy and cynical of a product as it was
>>
>>29138472
>honda did that with the accord and made the legend

let me tell you how Mercedes has made bank over the years selling taxicabs with leather seats to suckers
>>
>>29138478
some fags can't accept that people prefer SUVs and think there's a conspiracy where CAFE forced everyone at gun point to buy a 60k navigator over a 15k civic.
>>
>>29138490
The luxury truck was first invented with the Jeep Wagoneer and slowly became a concept during the 70s. It was moved in part because the South and West were increasingly dictating automotive trends instead of the Northeast.
>>
>>29138483
As for Cadillac, the Seville and Eldorado had some cool factor while the Deville and Fleetwood were grandma boxes. They also tried going European with the Catera but it didn't really work. Nonetheless the 90s were not quite as bad for Cadillac as the 80s had been.
>>

Wasn't like that in the 50s-60s, not at all. The beginning of the downfall was in the 70s when division managers pushed for higher volume whereas GM had previously capped Cadillac production at 150,000 a year to maintain quality and preserve the make's exclusivity.

Plus they all still remembered the war despite the dementia. GM had no incentive to tryhard for these buyers.

also idgi. in Europe the senior Mercedes models were always for old rich fat guys.

with a Town Car. The vehicle most commonly seen driven by geriatrics that looks and smells like piss, minty pain reliever cream, weed and shit- maybe a combination of all of that aroma. Associate with Italian heritage instead of Pearl Harbor.

This is GM's history for the last fifty-something years:
>GM engineers have this great idea on how to give [GM brand] a shot in the arm and be a real competitor to [European car] or [Japanese car]
>Get the green light, but halfway through doing it, finance does pic related.
>Project comes out phenomenally half-baked and becomes another joke.
See also the Cadillac Cimmaron.
>>
>>29138380
>that was Lincoln's flagship.

>>
>>29140880
GM always seemed to have a longstanding fear that they can't ask too high a sticker price for cars and turn off their less well-heeled customers. Want a Mercedes-class product and you have to charge Mercedes prices for it, which they weren't willing to do.
>>
>>29140891
if you look into it, you notice that since the 70s it seemed they increasingly ceded the premium car market to German makes and decided they couldn't compete with them and instead doubled down on marketing to trailer trash, whereas in the 50s GM had a glamorous, posh image.
>>
>>29140908
The problem is yuppies buy imports for the snobbery of owning an import. Yuppies bought a lot of imports in the prewar years too; some European luxury makes such as Isotto-Fraschini shipped most of their output to the US. It so happened to be that WW2 put the kibosh on European luxury boats for a while, but they came back by the 70s.
