Stupid Questions That Do No Deserve Their Own Thread

Long time no see, yeah, yeah, whatever. Help me out.
I'm about to change oil and I realized that the last time I did, I put in the wrong one ! My notes say its ok but I didnt write down why, and I forgot. So maybe you fuckers can guide me.
My owners manual says that alternatively to the recommended supra mazda original badass oil, I can also use 5W-30 or 0W-30 as long as they are ACEA C3.
I did my homework and I know about the slight difference between 5W-30 and 0W-30.
But the oil I used last year was .. 0W-30 ; ACEA A3/B3 , ACEA A3/B4 .. so not ACEA C3.
Why was it ok to use that oil? How fucked am I? Should I iterate my challenge to the Nippon?

When will the prices of used cars finally start to fall instead of rising?
>>
>>29138624
You just created an intermediate weight oil, which isn’t really a big deal. Use the right oil this time and stop worrying about it.

>After the midterms when the US economy collapses

But then we will all become poorer.

Especially me—which is particularly unpleasant for my humble self.
>>
>>29138723
Not if you move your assets to somewhere less susceptible to economic downturn. If you don’t have any assets, you can’t really get any poorer, which is the good news here.
>especially me
If you think that’s bad, just think of out it will affect ME. That’s the most troubling part about all of this.

Of course, it is possible to be even poorer than just having nothing.

After all, you could also end up with personal debts—or face hyperinflation if the ENTIRE ECONOMY of a country goes completely to ruin.

i've noticed more running 90's shitboxes popping up for sub-2k near me online with the gas prices spiking relatively high in my area as well as local public transit slowly un-shittifying itself enough to be semi-usable

Makes no fucking difference. These additive packages and their necessity are relative to like 10k mile service intervals. It's warranty and liability bullshit, just change your shit often. It's the same with coolants and their 20 different additive packages because they assume your car will have the same coolant for 20 fucking years.

Also, the 0-30 / 5-30 specifications are ambient temperature specific. Not that the cold viscosity differences of 5 is going to matter whatsoever in the vast majority of the global latitudes. If they even suggest 5w you should use 5w unless you happen to be in Finland.

Should I buy a motorcycle?
>>
>>29138720
Maybe when carmakers start bringing back econoboxes so they don't get brutally assraped by chink EVs flooding the market. We are basically living through a miniature '73 crisis, but instead of small, highly competitive shitboxes flooding the market like what happened with the Japanese back then, the government is shutting out the Asians from dumping this time, so domestic automakers are more than happy to keep turning the screws on us with MSRPs, dealer markups, and bullshit that is designed to break and steal more of your money.
>>

Do you enjoy the ride, or are you looking for speed? If you're looking for speed, stick to roller coasters. You will die eventually on a motorcycle.

I need help identifying a clunking sound. I have a Subaru outback 2018. Whenever I shift from Park to Drive, or Drive to Reverse, I hear an audible clunk coming from the front of the car, can't really pinpoint it though.

I lifted it and check the suspension visually and by jiggling the tires at 12-6o clock and 3-9oclock. Everything is tight, bushings don't have visible wear, nothing seeping. I kept up with the CVT fluid changes and have not noticed any problems with driving so I don't really think it's the transmission. Driving at highway speeds is fine, driving at slow speeds is fine, no shaking, no vibrations, no nothing. The clunk is louder in the mornings when the car has sat still for a long time.

The last work I did on it was service differential fluid and change cv axles up front

What's next to check? Mounts?
>>
>>29139147
yeah there is a motor torque link right under the intake tube. that is the first one I would check

I want to add aux high beam lights to my car.
The stock high beams are bundled tighter than on other cars, lots of brightness far ahead even compared to the modern led headlights of my company car cuckover, but practically no light shined sideways into turns.
I used to have a volvo 940 that had nice dual high beams stock, both spot and extra wide, and I want that again.
What do standard "driving beam" aux lights put out? I don't want to add another set of spot lights to my car, I want the wider beam in between average high beams and fog lights.
Currently looking at hella comet 450's but I can't find shit, not even review videos, showing the light pattern. Anyone got experience with Hella's or aux lights with similar lenses?

Huge 220v battery + wired power tools
I dont have that maybe cordless powertools and I'm already sick of them. They are expensive, they lack power, you have to manage different batteries.

would a trip that lasts 15 miles each way be too risky on top of maybe two other similar trips since it started?
>>
>>29139518
it depends on the debt, but if its tied to a real asset (like a car or a house) they will just take it

if its something like a credit card, they will just send it to collections and depending on the amount you might get sued with wage garnishments
most banks and credit cards wont touch you if this does happen so it becomes really hard to dig yourself out, youll have to wait many years to even be semi respectable again

so I installed a new battery in this used car i got because I assumed the old ass battery was the issue. no it fucking drained in 2 days. I have no idea what is happening because there's no lights on or anything but I tried using a shitty little energizery battery charger and it drained faster? I tested 7.5ish volts, left the charger on and came back 15 minutes later and its at like 5? doesn't make any sense because it would have died faster than 2 days if it was this fast, maybe the multimeter is wrong, here's the terminals, they aren't super clean but they aren't corroded either, I plan to clean and grease them but if that doesn't work then I think i'll just have to take it in, or test every single fuse and figure it out that way but that sounds fucked

How important is this rubber sheet from the air baffle for 87-90 Firebirds? I want to transplant an 82-84 bumper cover onto an 88 Firebird but I don't know if the early ones had any extra air baffles other than the air dam and I don't see any provisions in the early bumper to mount this thing.

it's going back into that fuse connector on the right, which I have no idea what it does but I assume it powers the dash electrics

Roofers left a gooseneck trailer in our unlit parking lot and I smacked it while trying to park. I have a big ass dent in my a pillar and a partially cracked but not shattered windshield.

Insurance deductible isn't gonna cover shit.
Is this fixable and what do I do to fix this?

i'm looking to buy a car around the $10k-$12k SUD mark with a touch of financing, so not 10k-12k straight cash. budget low for a short payment period, not a fan of being locked into monthly car payments for 4-5+ years/paying a considerable amount for something to just to to work in.
I'm just looking for a hatch/wagon that's comfortable, reliable, and with decent fuel economy. I have to drive in the city often and park the thing, so most crossovers and SUVs are right out.
So far, the two cars that have caught my attention are a mazda 3 hatch touring and lexus CT200h.
Mazda 3's reliability seems reasonable and the lexus is just a prius in a suit.
Any other cars that fit the bill decently well in that price range?
>>
Mechanic said I have a faulty ABS sensor. Apparently it's in a wheel bearing so it needs to be completely replaced even though the bearing is fine. Can I just say fuck off and drive it like it's a non ABS car now? Never had that fancy shit before anyways, I can drive and break
>>
i just degreased the front of my engine because im trying to find a couple small leaks but ended up getting carried away with it degreased a lot more areas and sprayed everything down with a garden hose. the problem is i had the cover off and didn't cover up the top of the engine and realized i went way overboard with it now my coils and injectors are soaked. how fucked am i? i did dry them off really fast with a rag now im letting it sit for a few hours to completely dry out.

>lexus is just a prius in a suit.

the ct200h will be reliable and gets 40+ mpg if the hybrid battery has been serviced or upgraded but holy fuck is it slow

2009 civic, mileage dropped like 20%. Was at interval for spark plugs so without any extra troubleshooting i swapped them.

One ignition coil was totally filthy, and the spark plug looks like picrel. Gap looked good on all 4 though. Swapped plugs anyway but i also ordered a new coil cuz its cheap.

Any advice on whats up? Normal behavior for a 200k vehicle? Mileage was good until i did an oil change about 800 miles ago, where i noticed there was quite a bit less than 4 quarts of oil so it’s obviously burning.

Don’t know how out of date the /o/ pinned guide is, but I need a cheap commuter for the sake of employment.
here are my constraints
>2,000-2,500$ budget (leaf pesos)
>I want something low(er) mileage but if it’s higher mileage (300,000km+) then I don’t want it breaking down or being a PITA to fix. I can do basic stuff like struts and brake pads myself.
>anything I should be wary of when buying used? I already know some stuff like using a magnet to check for body filler, asking to check the oil dipstick to see if they crammed in heavyweight oil to hide engine knock/etc, and inspecting the suspension and driveline but that’s it.

If there’s nothing that can fit in these criterion then I would appreciate some moped brands to look at, and go shopping for a brand new or good condition moped for the sake of travel.

it's clearly a home job, it's either powering something aftermarket like a stereo or fixing a problem. Take it off and see what stops working, and also see if it fixes the battery drain.
>>
>>29141475
take the oil fill cap off while it's running, if enough pressure is making it past worn rings to affect your mileage that much, there will be a dramatic amount of exhaust gas coming out of the crankcase. Dirty air filter or mass airflow sensor is more likely, spark plugs are almost never the problem unless the engine is missing/stumbling.
>>
>>29141341
Yes. ABS systems are designed to function as regular braking systems when malfunctioning or disabled.
My last car had stability control that I didn't like so I drove it 5 years with the ABS fuse pulled. There will be dash lights but it's fine. Better no driver aids than a faulty speed sensor that could make the system do something fucky.
>>
>>29140907
you should modify the sheet and new bumper to fit each other, that thing looks ike it blocks gravel from hitting your radiator and controls a lot of airflow
>>
>>29141475
Check the easiest and cheapest thing first: PCV valve.
>>
>>29141449
coils and injectors are waterproof, you just need to keep water away from alternators and electrical junctions and entrances to fluid reservoirs.
>>
>>29141011
the windshield needs to be replaced, and the pillar needs to be fixed too or the dent will crack the new one and cause leaks. Big savings if you do it yourself, but take it to a windshield shop and see how much they'd charge. They might be willing to do the bodywork or maybe they have a favored bodyshop they work with.
>>
>>29141466
I'm currently driving a 2015 nissan versa note and that's got about the same acceleration figures, so it should be fine enough for my commute
