Gee I don't know... Could it be the endless OHV possibilities that usually require you to tow in your off-road toys? Could it be the endless camping possibilities? Sure camping in a $100k travel trailer isn't camping but you still have a mobile condo in the wilderness where you're free to get drunk, drive things and shoot guns. Which hotel is going to let you do that? There's also the couple million or so lakes across North America that are fun to explore with a boat that you obviously can't do without towing a boat. tldr: because we can.
