Yes but unfortunately for you a functional axe can be cobbled together with a rock and a stick. Try making a tarp in the wild.

You want to play that game?
>>
>>2866071
Also that rope could be made out of cedar bark so don't try that move.
>>
>>2866065
A really good knife or a machete are slightly better.

agreed. i always bring my axe and people say it is heavy and unnecessary and every time it is useful and makes camp a thousand times better.
>>

Uhhhnnnn... my delicate dick skinners hurt... :'(
>>2866254
>op, saws were invented long ago you fucking idiot
I only gots a 4' saw right now, I need to sharpen my 6 footer for that tree.
Deal with it and fuck chainsaws.
>>

for some reason axes attract only the most inbred dumbass homosexuals around, because a heavy, inefficient and injury-prone way to do things is supposed to be macho or something
>>
>>2866604
>3½ pounds is too heavy.
>A 20 pound chainsaw is much easier to carry five miles.
>>
>>2866615
>a 20 pound chainsaw is a good comparison to a tool that will take weeks to do what it can do in a day, tops

>>
>>2866621
>wow one guy can give his all and cut down one tree almost as fast a power tool would
>here's why your point about work per day is irrelevant and you're weak and emacipated gaymer, unlike me, high testosterone macho big boy that refuses to do anything in a simple and effective way, because this would shatter my strongman persona that only i care about
really not beating the room temp IQ homosexual allegations there
>>
>>2866623
>Bro, just carry a loud dangerous power saw 17 miles down a trail during fire season in a designated wilderness area to limb and buck blowdowns
Nah, I'll stick with my 4 pound axe and 4 pound crosscut saw.
>>
>>2866624
>>Bro, just carry a loud dangerous power saw 17 miles down a trail during fire season in a designated wilderness area to limb and buck blowdowns
>no bro i NEED to haul half a chainsaw's weight to do 1/20th of the work, it's just absolutely necessary to do every time i go outside, me being a prancing homosexual has nothing to do with it
you do you, hope you find your burly bear partner to swing axes together with soon anon
>>
>>2866625
>Homosexual projection
You do you on bareback mountain, fag.

Axes are arguably near the bottom of outdoor tools. A lot of its uses are better done by other tools, and apart from being combo equipment (and just being cool) it remains useful at 2 things: splitting and killing retards, the latter i suspect being the reason why it appeals to autistic 4chanites.
Oh wait, it's only splitting because the machete kills retards better, along with gathering wood and doing all other stuff you'd need a big knife for.
A fixed bowsaw is better and safer at downing trees and if you take 14 replacement blades with you you're still at 1/3rd of the weight of a fullsize axe.
Hatchets are manjewelry meme trash. The only thing that hatchets do is eat the legs of the LARPers that love them.
The folding saw is once again supremely useful but none of the LARPers care because it's not "cool" and it looks flimsy, but they all forget that these things are tools, tools take skill and care to use, and if you want muh self defense buy a gun.
>>
>>2867079
you do sometimes want some chopping implement to delimb trees or cut brush though, which are less convenient to do with a saw.

however there are much better tools for that than a hatchet, be it a machete, billhook or anything similar.
>>
The Pulaski. Delimbs faster than a saw (though not as cleanly) does everything an axe does, works as a grubbing tool and sometimes used for driving wedges or stakes with the top end. High utility, simple low cost maintenance.
>>
>>2866065
A saw is superior to the Axe.
>>
>>2867121
Fact: An axe can fell buck and split, a saw can only fell and buck.
Saws have their place.
>>
>>2867082
>>2867079
Hatchets are literal garbage and im tired of pretending they're not because of that gay book. You'd be better served with a 2 pound boy's axe with a 20" handle. With a 14" folding saw you're unstoppable.
>>
>>2867165
>I need to be contrarian because a book has the name of a tool!
Please gain sentience.
Tools aren't made for no reason, especially thousands of years ago.
>>
>>2866065
no
my kukri is
>>
>>2867813
>Defending a worthless tool
The heads don't have enough mass to be useful and if you make the head heavier the handle will be too short for mechanical advantage.
2# 24" axe ∞> 1# 12" hatchet.
Deal with it.
>>2867839
Your kukri makes a really shitty hammer.
>>
>>2866065
As much as I like it, everything you can do with an axe you can do with a machete, and you can't do half the things a machete does with an axe
>>
>>2867880
>I'm mentally crippled so this thing I don't understand how to use is useless!
Please better yourself.
