How do I deal with these giant fucking rapists? I’m snorkeling and swimming off of the west side of the ‘Big Island’ in Hawaii soon. I am worried I will encounter one of these fuckers and it will try to bite me. Im bringing a tourniquet just in case. Please share advice if you are familiar with this area or species. Thank you.

>>2868397We get these here in the summer. I've seen one once while spearfishing. Just like every other shark, you don't want to look like prey. I approach sharks trying to look tall in the water with spear pointed at them and nudge them if they get too close but typically they will maybe be a bit curious but generally uninterested in you as a prey item. That said, if a large shark decides to eat you, you are dead. Nothing you can really do about it.

If it helps any I've snorkeled all over the kona coast of big island and I've never seen a tiger shark in shallow water or met anyone that has.avoid the places nobody is swimming though. Places like Kona harbor and off the point at magic sands people get eaten sometimes. Stay in the shallows.if you want to be really sure just stick to Kahalu’u Beach Park where the entire reef is behind a breakwater that sharks pretty much can't get through. But even then stay away from the deep north end where the surfing school is because that's not protected and sharks do go there.anyways you're way more likely to drown in hawaii than get eaten by a sharkthe waves there get big

>>2868397Just stay aware of your surroundings. Maintaining eye contact will usually stop them from trying to take a bite. They’re nowhere near as aggressive as their reputation suggests. They are however not fussy about what they eat, so if they do attack you then they’re not just going to bite and spit you out like some other sharks

>>2868397shark attacks are wayyyyyy under reported. don't listen to that nonsense about "just don't look like their prey! they're not aggressive!" it's all bullshit. sharks attack for all kinds of reasons. curiosity, territory, anger, hunger, or just being in their way if they feel like it. the shark community really needs to realize there's a problem with under reporting and old cliches. people get attacked by sharks all the time, with nearly 50 percent of those cases being fatal. the requirement for something to be registered as a shark attack is that people have to have seen the shark. think about that one for a minute. the only registered shark attacks are from people that literally saw a shark bite a guy. consider what this does to the reporting of shark attacks. if you're smart, you stay the hell out of the water.
