>>2870166First time fishing in a couple of decades this weekend. Going with my childhood handline and a basic rod, going to be a mix of beach, rock and jetty fishing. Wish me luck. Will post hits /here/ if I get any.
Evening lads, no trout today, but got a nice Murray Cod on nightcrawlers. Put up a good fight too
>>2870177Good luck anon, hopefully ypur dubs are an indication of a good day on the water
got a few of these prime and pretty bluegill at a spring near my house, water was nice and clear and they went for some pink powerbait instantly. pulled out 5 all around the same size, all looked super healthy. might grab a few on sunday for some dinner

>>2870235skid our local namefag posted his fat ass in a furry gimp mask and nothing else, just hiding his micropenis behind a small channel cat he just fishedso i guess fishing is also about getting comfortable in the great outdoors
>>2870238Thanks for reminding me. That actually caused me to abandon the thread for months.
>>2870241why not just call him names and move on tho?
Hey it’s newbie anon with the new ugly stick from last thread. Guys I fucked up I think. The 12 lb test is being weird. I think I might have put too much lime on the real maybe? Granted I haven’t casted in over a decade but I was only getting 50’-60’? Does that sound short for one handed? The big red flag to me was how much slack I had in the line after casting and even while reeling. Line to heavy maybe? Shit was Giga shallow so maybe my jig head was just hitting the bottom a lot and mostly scraping along? Started getting weird tangle very quickly, like after 5 cast. Is this because of cast technique the heavier line? Could also be a result of not reeling the line during installation correctly, I feel like I may have twisted the shit out of it. Anyways, was fun as fuck to atleast practice casting. Got the cousins coming at 7 am in the boat so we will see how it goes.
A little night fishing to end the week, I’ve still gotta work tomorrow but feels good to get some alone time. >>2870259I didn’t see the last thread but if you’re using braid you shouldn’t worry about twisting the line too much, braid has low line memory so it’s more forgiving in that aspect. If you’re casting one handed it’s going to be more difficult to gauge when to release the line, as well as heavier line generally not casting as far. Try casting two handed and only bringing the line back just slightly behind your head. Don’t sweep it too much, let the rod do the work. The line is getting stuck more because it’s a heavier line and you aren’t used to casting it, give it a slight bit more ass when you cast. You can also polish the top of the bale, get some car polish compound and clean up the top lip of the spool.
random dink from earlier this week
>when a weight becomes a lure
Some night fishing on an estuarine river for a few hrs. Heaps of bites but didnt land anything. Bastards kept stealing my worms before I could hook them. Probably dinky fish out there, as my hooks were already quite small. Still a good night on the water, not a soul in sight. Saw a few strange lights in the skies. Zipped in and out of the horizons behind the mountain without a sound. Beautiful clear full moon tonight, barely needed my headtorch. You anons ever seen anything strange while fishing?
>>2870289i casted out my line and heard a thud behind me and when i looked there was a rock i hadn't noticedwell the rock started moving and it turned out to be an armadilloi legitimately thought i was gonna have to blast it with my glock before it started scurrying away and rolling down a hill
>>2870294Yeah I've caught wildlife by surprise before when fishing, and it caught me too. Most often it'll be a kangaroo or a possum at night. Fucken have managed to get within a metre of some big roos by chilling silently whilst fishing quite a few times
>>2870289>You anons ever seen anything strange while fishing?Last time I was out two gigantic (30"+ around) alligator snapping turtles decided to bum-rush right to my spot and started mating literally 3 feet from me. They did not give a shit and just kept rolling and thrashing around for at least 10 minutes before I just found a new spot.
>>2870242Because it seemed like his own personal thread, literally every other post was him. I'm pretty sure he's in my neck of the woods too, I recognize a few places in his screenshots.
>>2870259it's perfectly normal with a spinning reel to have some slack right after the cast. make it a habit to pull the slack taught either with your hand or by lifting the rod tip right after you close the bail after a cast every time. eventually it becomes second nature and automatic. it's best to do that to get the slack out before reeling in any line, otherwise it will come back to haunt you later via jumping off the spool and getting hung underneath. but 12lb is too heavy for the average spinning reel. make use of it for awhile if you can but eventually respool with 8lb yo-zuri hybrid or 8ln trilene XL instead of XT. the XL is softer.
>>2870289i've seen meter long pike jumping out of water to catch swallows flying over the water to drink, saw that twice>>2870299>I'm pretty sure he's in my neck of the woods toohe's fat, it's not like he can be a danger, just run if needed
>>2870299>skid living rent free in this anon's head
>>2870332>>skid living rent free in this anon's headNo. Skid is living rent free in that anons fantasies.
>>2870289 Just a big ass owl, I saw it out of the corner of my eye and turned to it (I was wearing a headlamp with the red light filter) and it saw me and spread its wings wide, seeing the light reflect off its eyes and the huge wingspan scared the fucking shit out of me before it did a "hoot" and I realized it was an owl. I understand why people who are driving late at night while exhausted could think that is a Mothman.
Don't buy a memecaster, I spent years with Shimano and all that shit its fucking pointless just use a decent spinning setup.
>>2870343>t. never cast further than 30 feet
>>2870343I converted over to memecaster almost entirely. I only have 1 ultralight spinning setup now
How do you guys remember the difference between rod action and rod power?
>>2870368Action is how close to the tip it bends. Power is how much weight it takes to bend it.
>>2870368I look at it as power is how I can set it. Fast power? Flick of the wrist and the hook is set. Slow, I need a big pull up the rod.Weight is how I fight, light is good for small and inshore, heavy is for when I need to wear a belt and be tied to the chair for a 3+ hour tuna fight.
>>2870370this. however one thing to add is that the main reason the action is listed as a speed(slow-fast) is because of a thing called "recovery." basically how quickly the rod returns to being straight and and still. slow actions which bend further down the blank, also generally recover more slowly by nature.
>>2870274Add some rubber octopus skirting assist hooks and that's a prime offshore jig
>>2870344stop this retarded nonsense, you can cast just as far with the right setup
>>2870394I agree (different anon). The one exception is big, heavy baits.
