Where do you go fishing?
>>2870442This is my fishing spot. This place hasn't failed me yet.
>>2870442Why don't they build new lakes anymore?A hundred years ago people used to go crazy about damming and digging out ponds and now you can't hecking do that. I get it about trout and migratory fish and whatever but not every stream is like that. Not even talking about fishing/recreation but also improving wildlife habitat by creating wetlands for birds and such.
>>2870475Every fish is impacted by damming. It's a huge problem, but the one benefit is stopping the spread of invasives. In my fishery, buffalo are declining because of dams. Paddlefish, suckers, sturgeon, smallmouth bass, walleye, shad. If you don't care about the non-game fish, you should because they're presence and participation is hugely beneficial to the ecosystem. The DNR is finding that healthy ecosystems are resilient against invasives. MN has almost no invasive carp. If you have clean water, don't destroy habitat, and don't interfere with spawning fish, then, the invaders will be stopped in their tracks.

There's a snobby and cunty "sportsman's" club (gun and fishing club) in my hometown who *think* they own a particular pond because their property encircles about 70% of it.However, the pond has an entire bank that's public property, and several culverts under a highway that feed into adjacent ponds and marshes. These fucks are notorious for calling the cops and wardens on anyone who fishes from the public bank, and god help you if you take a kayak or canoe on the pond (they don't own the pond, they own the land up to the edge of the water only). They will threaten to "use you for target practice".The fun thing is they spend tens of thousands stocking the pond with fish every year or two, and just can't handle the fact that the opposite shore is open to public fishing and the pond beyond the culverts are totally open to fishing. I sneak through the swamp and fish trout and pike and nobody is the wiser.
