How do you guys find places to camp? I'm trying to find somewhere in Michigan's UP to go but it's proving really hard. I'd like somewhere where you have to hike at least 10 miles to get to and somewhere where I can make a campfire.

by owning some rural forest land and going for a walk.

look for dispersed camping spots
wander innawoods

Are you trolling or are you a FIB?
>>
I live in Ontario
I browse through Ontario Parks site and they have a map for every park and its availability

You use FIB all the way up there? I live in Iowa now, but I am from Illinois originally. I hate that state and will never return except for food or art. Haven't been back but to see some friends a few years ago. Thank God only me and Kevin Costner think this place is heaven.

In summary use a topographical layer on Google Earth, may as well input data from the local agencies that show parking spots and boundaries.

10 miles? You may have to compromise on that.

Is the UP usefully cooler than the rest of the eastern us in mid-summer? Is it worth driving all the fucking way there to escape the heat? If so, what's there to see? I don't care about boats or lakes. I like pretty views.

>everything in canada is organized
well at the cost of having to live in canada

Have you ever hiked 10 miles? Is there even anywhere in lower Michigan that's 10 miles from the nearest road?

>Is it worth driving all the fucking way there to escape the heat?
I'm planning on going in the fall, I've actually never been up there in the summer, I heard there's lots of mosquitos in the summer.
>If so, what's there to see?
Quiet forests. Like you go out there and you can't hear highways or anything, just trees and forest sounds, I love it.

I did 14 or 15 with a pack once, but that was a while ago, I need to train, which I have been doing.

>open map app
>go to UP
>see multiple national forests with long trails wilderness areas with trails
>even designated long distance trails that will have campsites along it
>plenty of random roads that probably arent drivable but might still be walkable
>plenty of land in the wilderness areas to then turn off trail and romp into

I mean I could do that. But I'd prefer a nice loop.

There's like a billion people on that trail and I've been before.
