Shelter-cels get what they deserve
>>

>returns at night and steals all your shit and throws it in the river
be careful, retard
>>
>>2871424
what's the solution?
>>
are you supposed to tent up in a traditional trail shelter?
>>
>>2872571
No.
>>
>>2871424
>provided a shelter.
>pits up tent anyway inside of it.
Fucking why?
>>
>>2872602
Because some people are cowards
>>
>>2872602
Privacy or protection from bugs would be solid reasons (fuck ticks by the way)
>>
>>2872602
Because they are selfish fucks who believe they are the only ones entitled to use the public trails.
>>
It's crazy the shit that some faggots will do instead of just buying a $20 bug net
>>
>>2872655
This is the only legit reason I could see. But if you have a tent already, then go put it up off trail? Or at a designated camp spot? This is just weird.
>>
>>2872602
For the same reason people pump gas, pay with a card, then leave their cars there while they go inside to buy lottery tickets and junk food.

I hate AT Thru Hiker culture. My job in the outdoor industry lets me deal with a lot of thru hikers. I might even make a thread about this.

>full of spoiled brats who dance around with their durstons and EE quilts that daddy paid for
>half of them "yellow blaze" (read: hitchhike) dozens to hundreds of miles
>do anything but hike
>stay anywhere but a tent
>spread norovirus
>spread STDs
>spread invasive species like wavyleaf basketgrass all up along the coast

I even went to Trail Days this year. I wanted to witness it. I camped on the lawn. It was like a train wreck.
>old men hitting on underage girls
>degenerates partying in the forest all night. they're want it to be like a music festival, but none of them are cool enough or have enough drugs for that
>middle aged white dudes on drugs blowing weed smoke at children
>beggars who don't have rich parents or enough savings to do a section, let alone a singular long trail
>vomit behind or in front of multiple tents
>human shit along the forest paths
>dog shit everywhere from borderline abused dogs forced to hike thousands of miles with their irresponsible owners
>dudes serially molesting or sexually assaulting women
>Warren Doyle teaching a dance class (this one wasn't that bad)

The AT is mostly people maladjusted to society that would be better off in asylums, or rich kids avoiding their regular life. They create these false identities for themselves with shitty trail names that they pick themselves, and then get to live out that persons life, and then get depressed and full of cognitive dissonance when they're off the trail. I hate thru-hikers. I hate trail names. I hate "tramilies". The trail should just be paved at this point considering how fucking commercialized it is. Is it still an achievement if you stay in a hotel most nights, get peak refuel and mountain house meals shipped to you on a regular basis, and ride in a car for a significant portion of it, all while being funded by daddy's money?

Would take off wind chill too, but that's presuming there would for some reason be bugs and chill wind at the same time
>>

You sound jealous honestly

What am I supposed to be looking at here?
>>
>>2873058
what job?
>>
>>2873094
Going to guess well-stocked local gear shop near a popular part of the AT. I briefly worked at one near a major part of the PCT but also decently close to a few popular climbing areas, and I'd meet all kinds of self-proclaimed dirt baggers, casual hikers, trail runners, skiers, thru hikers and long-term backpackers, etc. I didn't read his post but he's probably right. Most of the people I saw on my limited stretches of PCT were either old as fuck and retired, or trust fund kids that just had no real financial burden and had seemingly no actual life. I went climbing with one who just bounced around doing random ass hobbies and waiting for his dad, the estate holder, to die. Not saying that these people are inherently bad, but they're 100% disconnected from reality and generally weird as fuck.

>either old as fuck and retired, or trust fund kids tha

Wahhhhhh im mad that i have a job supported by people not like me,,,,,waaaah i shouldn't have to work because some random person who pays my wage is rich from working waaaaah
>>
>>2873058
That post has normalfaggot energy

lmao

>cant imagine other viewpoints
>thinks most hikers should be committed
oh i hope i run into you at peak shroom level
>>
>>2873193
As weird as writing 1000 words crying about the people who pay your salary?
>>
>>2873076
Sure, I wish I had rich parents. Don't we all? I am not jealous of a disconnect of reality
>>2873097
;)
>>2873187
I usually spend a collective month out of every year outside. I backpack, whitewater, climb (outdoors only, not a loser), sometimes hunt, fish, and snowshoe. I have slept outdoors in negative temperatures and temps over 100. I have done a decent portion of the AT in sections, along with other trails here and there. Only thing I haven't gotten into is serious mountaineering, but I'm waiting for the tiktok trend to die down. Being a normie would be cheaper.
>>2873224
shroomhead mentioning shrooms? a shocker. be more original. there's enough druggies on the trail, might want to find a hostel to hole up at and work-for-stay until you can scrounge up enough pocket change to get an uber home
>>
>>2873250
>Noo! Dont take drugs outdoors! This is serious!
