If it aint leather, it won't take the weather. Make sure you use wax, or oil, and remove the soil. Rain, wind or shine, my leather hat is just fine.

Lifetime guarantee and their quality. They are one of those companies who will send you a new hat if something goes wrong with the one you bought. Also, a specialized product 'invented' for the sailing market. They are made for extremely windy conditions and stay on your head in bad weather.

I have the tilley sun cape hat but they discontinued it.
>>
aren't tilleys all made in China now? i tried one of the Chinese ones and the metal grommets for the string came out. garbage build quality.
>>
>>2872245
They have some that are made in Canada still. I think just the heritage models.
>>
>>2872239
I see, the lifetime guarantee alone makes the price worth it, especially when a company has shown to be serious about it through the years

As a profuse sweater, how would a leather hat stop from getting gooey and moldy?
>>
>>2872290
Usually a fabric band is sewn into the interior.
>>
>>2872290
Wearing a bandana under the hat will help but not much else you can do except cut more holes in the hat for breathability. Or move to a cold climate and sweat less.

The oilskin ones look like nice, legit /out/ hats.

Do you get bothered by flies? Why the close coverage?
This hat >>2872243 looks better for a desert to me, but I don't live in a desert.

I just ordered an Outdoors Research brim hat, the one with insect repellant, hopefully it's good

Not that anon but I use the varusteleka boonie. It's got a hidden drawstring around the crown so it stays secure on my giant head without needing to use the chin strap.
