File: SEASON 13.jpg (445 KB, 3365x1245)

Alone airs tonight, lets get the seasonal thread going as they are some of my favorite comfy threads.
This year its "Alone: World Championship"
This season, survivalists from seven different countries are represented including the United States x3 kek, Canada, Wales, Australia, Slovenia, Portugal, and New Zealand.

It is set within the Arctic Circle along the rugged Richardson Mountains in the Northwest Territories of Aklavik, about 150km from where they filmed Season 11
Hopefully its more interesting as I found the last few seasons lacking

And here is the list of people. Only one female this time, 3 people from United states despite saying its a world championship which is odd, but maybe some people backed out

What a bunch of simps they gathered for this season!! I don't see a single one I want to pull for. I don't see any winners let alone "the one". I predict a very short season. I'm not expecting it to go over 30 days at this point.

Well he literally admits in episode 3 that he had a bit of an absent father, so I'm guessing he's not gonna tap because muh missing his family.

>>2872790

Clearly a psychologically fragile guy relying a ton on positive reinforcement. I also think he just doesn't have the metabolism for endurance starvation like some of the others do. My guess is he won't tap, but they'll medically evac him later on in the game.

My money is on Will.

Does anyone know how feasible it is to use the gillnet on the river in winter, or will rivers like that actually freeze over as well?
>>
>>2873635
>how feasible it is to use the gillnet on the river in winter
Depends on how deep it is. Contestants in previous seasons have used them in winter. IIRC Clay Hayes was cleaning a fish he'd just pulled from his (made from scratch) gill net when the tv crew showed up to tell him he'd won.
>>
>>2873635
>I'm guessing he's not gonna tap because muh missing his family
We'll see. I liked him better in episode 3 than episode 1. But he's still one of the most effeminate indians I've ever seen, probably due to lack of a father figure growing up, now that we know that.

>will rivers like that actually freeze over as well
Yes, I'm pretty sure, at some point, they will have to stop fishing for a couple weeks to let it freeze over before they can begin ice fishing.
>>
The woman is very unlikable. Not at all like callie or that one older season six girl who kept stabbing herself.

New Zealand words and slang are probably used and understood by millions of people. Some long dead language used by a couple injuns is understood by no one and no one cares

You'd think after 13 seasons someone would've been devoured by wolverines or mauled by a bear or fallen into the water and turned into a contestantcicle by now. Every season has some crazy dangerous moments, I'm genuinely surprised there've been no deaths, particularly with some of the retards they recruit.
Maybe there has and they've carefully edited those people out.

>>
>>2874474
NTA... Still a waste of an item post Clay Hayes season. Gill nets are easy to make. If it's a game winning item it'll only be because no one else made one, like they tended to do after that season.

It's funny that he lost a whole day and his pants and shoes chasing a completely different moose, because he didn't bother thoroughly check the area after letting it die.
>>
>>2874795
>chasing a completely different moose
Were we watching the same episode? He was chasing the moose he had injured, that is all. Very lucky he managed to chase it back to his peninsula. You also forgot to mention he literally wasted 2-3 extra arrows on it.
This guy is definitely not on the same level as Roland Welker, but his odds of victory have improved regardless.
>>
>>2874795
That was his moose, not another. Go back and compare the antlers if you think they're two different moose.

>>2874823
I'm not sure he "wasted" at least one of those arrows. That moose was still standing the next day. It was clear that he wasn't doing well as evidenced by him just standing in the same spot over night. But he wasn't down. It's not clear, to me at least, if it was one of those two additional arrows he shot or the exertion of swimming back across the water or a combination of the two that finally did him in. And he may be able to recover one or two of those arrows now that he has the animal in hand. But I do think those two he shot the second day were rushed and sloppy, nothing like his first shot.

>Very lucky he managed to chase it back to his peninsula
I was thinking the dame thing! DAMN lucky he swam back over to his piece of land so that zig didn't have to pack the animal all the way back to his camp. I'd have put money on him losing at least half the moose to a bear if it had died across the water.
>>
>>2874831
I thought all those additional arrows he shot on his second go were missed, and therefore probably lost since he was shooting the moose while it was in the water.
I just rewatched the sequence and it almost seems like he shoots 3 arrows.
But maybe 3-4 arrows in exchange for a whole moose is a pretty damn good deal.
>>
>>2874832
I just rewatched too, to make sure I wasn't crazy and that it was the same moose. He shot twice and knocked a third, but didn't shoot it. The very first one he shot, I didn't see where it hit, but the moose's broad side was to him at least. It might have hit or might not have. The second shot he took when the moose was mostly underwater. All he could have been aiming for would have been the head or back. I'm not sure what he was aiming for, but it was defiantly not a good shot. Then he went a bit further along the beach with a third arrow ready to go, but he never shot it. The moose was already swimming too far away and it was his last arrow.
>>
>>2874823
>He was chasing the moose he had injured, that is all.
Nope. The moose he had injured was laying dead on the peninsula where he shot it (probably obscured by a tree or some brush from where he was standing), and where he found it the next day after chasing the wrong damned moose.
>>2874831
>compare the antlers
we never get a good enough look at the antlers of the 2nd moose.
>exertion of swimming back across the water
and somehow magically getting back to the exact spot where it collapsed after being shot the day before. very helpful of that moose. suspiciously helpful, almost like there was a 2nd moose around playing decoy.

>>
>>2874891
That's angle and clarity. They're the same shape and number of tines. The chances of two moose having that close of a set of antlers is nearly impossible.
>>
>>2874892
>They're the same shape
they aren't though
>number of tines
they aren't though
>The chances of two moose having that close of a set of antlers is nearly impossible
they aren't that close, and the chances of the one moose managing to swim a mile away and then swim a mile back only to suddenly and conveniently fall over dead in the same spot that it was shot is infinitely more impossible.

So this is what you think happened
>Ziga shoots a moose and it dies nearby
>but he is bizarrely unable to locate this gigantic dead animal
>shortly after he spots entirely different moose across the lake
>moose is for some strange reason moving slow as if it is injured(but it's not)
>then randomly lays down as if it is injured(but it's not)
>waits overnight and the next morning it's still in that same spot as if it is injured(but it's not)
>also he STILL can't find the moose he shot near his camp
>walks 3 miles to the other unrelated moose that is acting injured even though it isn't
>it swims away to an unknown location
>Ziga walks back and magically finds the dead moose that he somehow missed before
>it's wet despite being dead overnight and also happens to have very similar antlers to the other unrelated moose
Yeah makes perfect sense
>>
>>2875634
>>2875634
>Ziga shoots a moose, sees lung blood but doesn't recognize it or its significance.
>Hears it dying nearby, waits till nearly dusk to go find it.
>Doesn't immediately see it due to the fading light and brush.
>Sees a moose across the lake and jumps to the conclusion that it's his (despite having seen the lung blood, despite hearing it die earlier, and despite the distance and lack of binoculars for a good look)
>Moose lays down for the night, Ziga who is watching from several hundred yards away and already convinced this is his moose assumes this means its weak and injured.
>Waits overnight, comes back the next morning and from the shore near his camp watches the moose wake up and start moving down the bank.
>Doesn't bother walking the 50 yards to where his moose died and look some more because he's fixated on this other moose.
>Walks 3 miles to the other unrelated moose that is acting like a moose that can breathe just fine despite supposedly having a thoracic puncture and being short a lot of blood. Ziga assumes this means it's weak and injured.
>It being a non-injured moose, swims away faster than Ziga can keep up.
>Ziga fetches his shoes and walks back 2 miles around the lake and finds his moose dead on the ground where it's been the whole time
>It's wet because it's been raining which is why the ground is also wet
>Ziga starts skinning moose and some viewers who have never killed and gutted large game in the field don't notice the lack of rigor mortis (which sets in within 2 hrs and goes away after about 12) or the lack of steam coming off the carcass despite the near-freezing cold.
>>
>>2875634
Meanwhile this is what you seem to believe
>Ziga shoots a moose through the lungs and hears it die nearby
>Waits till near nightfall for it to die. Moose gets tired of waiting and despite its a punctured lung and inability to breath, decides to go on a trip.
>Ziga goes to look for it near the bank of the lake and somehow completely fails to notice the massive moose swimming away across the lake in full view.
>Suddenly spots "his" moose only after it was on land on the other side, which had somehow not actually died despite having swum several hundred yards without being able to breathe due to punctured lungs.
>Sees moose laying down for the night and somehow "knows" despite the lack of optics and the lack of sunlight that this can only mean that its injured and not just doing moose-like things.
>Waits overnight and the next morning to see moose waking up and just "knows" that it's injured and not just waking up as mooses do in the morning.
>Chases moose for 2 miles and can't catch it, despite moose being unable to breathe due to punctured lung.
>Moose swims 2 miles back the other away and miraculously comes to the exact fucking spot where it had so nearly died the night before, realizes it's been off-script for the last 24 hrs, and suddenly expires, its last thoughts no doubt filled with hopes that this time Ziga will find it.
Yeah makes perfect sense
>>
>>2875634
>>2875646
>>2875647
Holy autism. (didn't read that btw)

On another note, my predictions are still Will and Ziga to win the show. Ziga's odds have gone up massively with the successful harvest of the moose. Will's odds went down after he lost consciousness, but it seems he's still extremely successful at snaring and fishing, and his shelter is probably the best insulated of the show.
Nero and Andrew are probably gonna starve slowly (though I suspect Andrew will tap because muh health and muh family). Jacks will probably tap soon too.
The only enigma is Aaron.
>>
>>2875670
>his shelter is probably the best insulated of the show
This is one of the largest predictors of late-season success, if only because you can use a smaller fire to keep warm so you're less likely to burn your shelter down during a snowstorm.
>>
>>2875688
His fireplace looks like a potential game ender if it catches fire. I don't like it.
>>
>>2875670
I don't know about Nero starving. He's done pretty well with the beaver so far.

I want to like will, I really do. But I just don't. I think he's mentally weak and will tap. I haven't seen him getting an abundance of food compared to any of the others that are snaring and fishing. Ziga is the only one with a food advantage at this point, assuming he can preserve it and it doesn't spoil or get stolen by an animal.
>>
>>2875735

He's from Agnes Hailstone's tribe, from Life Below Zero, they're all really low-key types. They talk a bit odd which makes them come across as slow but they are solid survivalists. I wouldn't count him out.
>>
>>2875733
did we see the same thing? it looks like his fire is surrounded by wood. seems like a disaster waiting to happen
>>
>>2875764
Yes, that's what I'm talking about.
>>
>>2875764
>>2875766
>>2875733
Agreed. He coated it in a kind of mud cement, which seemed to me like it wouldn't do much to prevent the sticks from eventually catching fire. For now I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming this is muh traditional Indian fireplace design and it just works.
>>
>>2875771
It may well "just werk". The mud provides a small amount of insulation, but I think it mostly keeps oxygen away from the wood. Wood can't catch fire if there's no oxygen. It can get extremely hot though and will likely turn to charcoal, but won't actually catch fire. He will need to keep that mud coating maintained though, repeated heat expansion and cooling may cause it to crack badly enough to catch fire.
>>
Seems like it's finally worth watching again after those initial garbo episodes are out of the way.
I just wish that 'lady' would fuck off and then it'd be comfy viewings for the rest of the season.
>>
>>2875806
Honestly she has gotten very little screen time so far. Which could actually be a bad sign: it might mean she's going to last a long time and feature more in the later episodes.
>>
>>2875810
That's my worry as well. She's got a lot of fat and women that 'do well' tend to just starve veeery slowly by not doing anything.

Which, of course, is the perfect opportunity to blog about their life when they're lying about doing jackshit.
>>
>>2875810
I'm hoping for a brief cameo near the end where they flashback to her dropping out. Sometimes they fuck with the chronology like that.
>>
I find it quite insufferable how many of the competitors always go:
>Oh, I am so blessed.. Thank you, thank you..
Whenever they get a fish or squirrel or whatever.

Of course, it dies down the later on as it becomes routine and I guess they don't feel as blessed any more, but fuck me is it bad. Thankfulness and gratitude should not be expressed in such a situation as it implies the averse too: why not then curse the world if you miss that shot or don't catch anything? That sort of "conditional gratitude" has me extremely peeved, even though, of course, it's just people venting out their adrenaline and happiness in a way that makes them feel good.

Actually, another fucking peeve I have is how so few of them actually take the competition seriously: why, fucking WHY wouldn't you go in fat as fuck? There should be a distinct difference between the person in the video applying and the guy on day 1. It's been 12 seasons and we know that having fat reserves is a good fucking advantage as you'll shed the weight anyway. I can't take these people seriously going all
>Yeah, I'm in it to win it, I'm taking this 110% seriously, I've done my research, I feel ready..!

When clearly they're just ego tripping, not wanting to take the easiest advantages because they're tough boys that don't need no fat (but will drop out because being alone is lonely or because medical check says they're a walking skeleton).
>>
>>2875821
This. The easiest way to win is to go in fat as fuck, build a double insulated shelter the first week, stock up on some firewood, then go into hibernation for the next few months.

Supposedly there have been numerous attacks on children in Russia, but lynx will avoid altercations with adult humans due to their size. You sound like an armchair warrior. Do you know how vicious animals can be if they are put in a self-defense situation where they think it's life or death, to protect their young, etc?

>>2875979
>his expression when you do this
>>
>>2876005
1) Eurasian lynx are significantly larger than Canadian lynx
2) LMAO at you trying to call me an armchair warrior. You said it yourself, lynx (even the larger Eurasian ones) will avoid humans. You're not going to just randomly corner a lynx to the point where it attacks you. If you actually went outside you'd know that. And she specifically said she was scared of "predators." If you're worried about animals attacking you in self defense then obviously the moose would be a far greater threat. Unlike lynx, moose have actually killed people. But it doesn't happen often, because it's basically impossible to accidentally provoke an attack even from an animal as large as a moose, let alone a lynx which is the big scary predator she's afraid of.
>>
>>2876005
>>2875975
if you're scared of a lynx then you have absolutely no business being on this show. Lynx are about the size of coyotes, and I've been camping with coyotes a lot. Never once was scared of them.

You go onto this show knowing that there will be grizzlies, moose, wolverines, cougars, wolves, etc. And she's scared of a fucking lynx? Compare that to male contestants like the one who killed a wolverine because it was stealing his food. Or the guy who shanked a fucking musk ox.

I hope for her sake the clip was edited, and she was actually referring to bears or something.

>>
>colonization resulted in the dispossession and and deaths of tens of thousands and first nations people
omg SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU BIG NOSED FREAKS. do I even need to check the early life of the producers?
>>
Shame about Will having to tap because of his guts. He had a good shelter, a good attitude, and a good reason to be participating. I would have expected someone from his tribe would be well versed in how to deal with constipation. I wonder if he was just dehydrated.

And the producers attempt to stack the deck of a "world championship" season with 5 americans backfires again, the sole remaining US participant is Jacks, who never in a million years would I have predicted would be the last one standing in that group. I thought for sure she would be a week 1 tapout. Shows what I know.
At least it's an even playing field now.
>>
>>2876152
Absolutely insufferable, had to skip that part.
>>
>>2876153
Jacks was pretty obviously going to stay for a while simply based on her build and style: Fat and slow starvation.

As long as she didn't spook or injure herself.
>>
>>2876157
>muh rape muh trauma
The producers are just picking people with what they deem to be acceptable back stories and probably just teaching them some basic survival stuff at this point, right?
She’s probably a hard core libshit
>>
Hah!!! All the Will shills can suck it!! I KNEW he'd tap! It wasn't the "I miss my family" tap I expected. But it was a tap none the less.

Overall a very whiny cunt episode...ugh!

The contestants have a contractual obligation not to reveal what happened on the show until it airs. Just because Andrew has a Youtube channel and posted his 10 items doesn't mean he won. That's retarded.
>>
>>2876241
I don't understand how it can stay a secret though, especially the early taps. All of your friends, family, co-workers etc don't have the contractual obligation and all of them see you back whenever you tap.
And most contestants have some sort of social media that you could check, if you see them posting anything on Instagram from like September then they obviously didn't win.

Since the winner and runner-up return at basically the same time, I guess that part could remain a secret, but everybody who already tapped on the show should have been easy for the public to figure out.

>>2876157
>As long as she didn't spook herself
she was afraid that a lynx was going to come into her shelter and eat her while she slept.
>injure
I have no idea how she hasn't injured herself yet. She definitely strikes me as the type who would cut herself while batoning or just fall down and hurt herself.

>>2876161
for me it was the way she told the story in third-person. Holy fuck what a narcissistic drama queen. I get that it's a serious event, but no man would ever talk that way. Just say what happened and how it made you stronger or some shit. Not the fucking
>21 years ago, there was a 19-year-old girl blah blah blah

yeah it's terrible and everything, the (((producers))) have feminized the show so hard for quite a while now. it stopped being about the survival aspect and is now about character exposition. as a viewer, i don't give a shit about these people regarding who they are or their backstory other than the skills they have relevant to the competition. it's like the show is catered to women now which i'd wager is not a huge component of the audience and never will be.
I bet all this interest in survival was a unforeseen side effect of globohomo and Alone just happened to be a big success. Once too many goys became interested in learning how to escape globohomo, it needed to be subverted.

what was the last ep that aired? i saw will go home and the other guy start butchering the moose

Girls pretty typically last a while, there have been several seasons where the runner-up was female, they need fewer calories and store fat better, plus they're more connected to the Forest Mother spirit

How else would you explain it when a female snares a medium sized hare? It's the universe(she/them) providing.
>>
>>2876289
fuck, i missed that detail. well, that explains everything
>>
>>2876316
Most of the time, you're setting these snares on pre existing game trails. It's not a miracle that a hare eventually hops through it, it's an inevitability, if you've set your snares right.

How are there only like 5 anons watching this show? It's pure /out/kino, this thread should have a lot more activity.

How do you view the number of posters in the thread? I thought that feature was removed.

Uh, you know, /out/ is a slow board...
And I don't think /tv/ cares.
>>
>>2876397
You can't view the number of posters but based on activity there are probably 5-10 anons ITT
>>
>>2876397
It wasn't. It's just not the default anymore.
>>
Any other media scratch this same itch? I'm gunna watch Derzu Uzala and Alone in the Wilderness. Been watching some Greg Ovens on YouTube not bad.
>>
>>2876414
then how do you see it?
>>
>>2876427
i like watching some jew tubers like clay hayes and joe robinet, both former alone contestants. although sometimes it gets repetitive
>>
>>2876490
Most of these guys are good outdoorsmen, but they're not good entertainers. They'll never reach the level of comfy of the Outdoor Boys for example.
>>
>>2876427
For me, only wilderness cabin building/homesteading stuff like Wild Homestead. Short term survivalism with too much good gear/no fear of running out of food and water gets dull pretty quick no matter how cool the landscape they're moving through looks but someone developing a piece of property stays cool and gets cooler the more they do. With the added bonus of them being outside the whole time, seeing wildlife and swimming in the river and catching drone shots of the mountains.
>>
>>2876427
there are a few Alone spinoffs. The only one I watched was a few episodes of the one where they send 3 people into the wilderness together and give them a kill (eg, a moose, boar, etc) but otherwise they have fewer supplies than in Alone. They have to survive 30 days. IIRC they don't even win a prize, it's just for fun. The episodes I saw were okay but it was definitely different. And idk about the other spinoffs.
>>
>>2876610
i also like homestead rescue. it's different than Alone but they come up with some pretty interesting and creative solutions to getting fresh water, building different chicken coops, and making different types of gardens and greenhouses. It has cheesy reality tv moments but i enjoy it
>>
They should have gone back to Africa. Last season was a dud but that was on the contestants. Give new contestants another season to learn from the mistakes of last season. It was a new environment with new challenges and new animals. This season is just a repeat of previous seasons.
>>
>>2876783
>that was on the contestants
The location deserved a lot of the blame. A desert where there's plenty of water and the high temperatures are 80's is never going to be interesting.
>>
jacks is the worst holy shit
>>
>>2876811
why not? The fact that the winner only lasted 30 days means that it's a great location for a survival show. And it gave different challenges (like a lack of wood, different food, heat, etc). What does the current season have that we haven't already seen before?
>>
>>2876829
>What does the current season have that we haven't already seen before?
Nothing. It's also a boring season.
>heat
There was no heat. Had they lasted for months they would have seen decently high temperatures, but they didn't, so the highest temperatures they experienced was in the upper 80's. There was plenty of surface water (so no need to dig wells or capture atmospheric water). There was plenty of game but either nobody figured out how to bag them consistently or the rules forbade them from doing the things (e.g. kites) to make it easier to bag them consistently. Boring, boring, boring. And yes this season is boring as well. Alone is done, it's run its course.
>>
>>2876822
I think she might actually be my least favorite contestant out of all 13 seasons.
>I didn't come into this as a big hunter or trapper or fisherman
actual quote from contestant on a show based on hunting, trapping, and fishing.
And she's afraid of being eaten by a lynx.
And she breaks down crying like a hysterical drama queen.

How the hell did she even make it 2 weeks? She doesn't even sound like somebody who could handle normal camping let alone a survival show like this.
>>
>Wahhhh I'm gunna dismantle my beaver traps because what if I killed a poor beaver!!!
>>
>>2876902
>>2876961
jacks is the embodiment of why i'm losing my patience with the show. it isn't just her, but she's the most vocal this season. it feels like over half of all the camera time people get is muh kids, muh family. we get it, its lonely. that might even be related to the title of the show. but its the editors fault mostly for shoving this in our faces trying to make us care about people so much that we forget what they're there to do which is survive, trap, build shit, hunt. they need to make it so only 10% of all screen time is muh family and the rest is strictly them surviving.

what a frustrating show that i want to like. i will not be back next season if something doesn't change.

i've seen them. i'm just now getting fully fed up myself after complaining a few times. they've turned this into a girls show. i started watching around s3 or so and it was pretty cool, but now i think i'm hate-watching it. after this season i'm definitely done if nothing changes about it. you gotta know when to cut your losses and i should have probably done that 2 seasons ago
>>
>>2876980
I just watch it to laugh at the people getting attacked by injured squirrels, or burning their huts down trying to keep warm, or barfing/shitting their guts out because they failed to boil their water or cook their food long enough.
>>
>>2876991
all that is what i want to see and what most of the show should be about
>>
>>2876985
Unfortunately I will probably do the same thing
>>
>>2876858
>There was plenty of game but either nobody figured out how to bag them consistently
then do another season. People learn from previous seasons. The fact that South Africa was a difficult environment to survive in, despite the food, makes it an interesting location. People survive 2-3x longer in the Arctic than they did in South Africa, so put them back in South Africa and see if new contestants can learn to survive better there.
>>
>>2877065
The problem with that is that heat and lack of water are *much* more dangerous than cold and the occasional bear, so the show's producers have to be much more cautious with the scenario, which is why they were put into a desert with surface water everywhere and daily high temperatures in the 70's rising to the 80's after a month or so. For legal reasons any desert show is just going to be boring af.
>>
What kind of a faggot do you have to be to get butthurt about contestants in a WORLD competition using words from different languages. Shut the fuck up you pussy
>>
I blame this disaster of a thread on how bad the last couple of episodes have been. God please get rid of Jacks.

>It's pure /out/kino,
It's been shit for a good while...
>>

lol she's gonna win. She will be the first female winner. And we'll have 4 more episodes of her crying hysterics to get there.
>>
nothing else to do today so i'm watching the rerun eps. beer helps
>>
>>2877281
that would be a horrible thing. there have been some great waman in past seasons that were so close to winning and way better than jacks
>>
>>2877446
the one woman came really close some seasons ago and it was like day 100 but the douchebag guy decided to just hibernate in his shelter all day every day and she eventually called it quits
>>
I am liking Andrew but more than anything I am a Jacks hater
