How common is being asshole among high altitude climbers?
>>
>>2873297
it's probably common. i think when you're about to go up something like that, your mindset changes, because you're probably in a big fucking hurry. i have had several incidents where i have not communicated my intentions correctly, and i have gone to the top ahead of other people, or used the wrong routes to get there and caused a lot of confusion. i also think that when you're exerting yourself, you can get kind of high on endorphins, and it becomes very easy to assume that other people know what you're talking about, or what your intentions are.

To say nothing of the lack of oxygen up there making you do relatively stupid shit while experiencing that adrenal rush, I imagine

His ex-girlfriend testified at his trial that he’d left her alone on the exact same mountain.

It takes a harness, a helmet, and good boots. And maybe hiring a guide. If it's your first time trad climbing you have to do it with someone else they will have a rack and rope.

Idk about the culture in Europe, but in WA and BC everyone is pretty nice in the mountains. Or at the very least not actively rude.

It’s impossible to make an informed judgment of whatever he did without knowing the details.

The mountains can be brutal and unforgiving. Unless you’ve experienced its brutality and tip-toed the thin margins, you really have no idea.
