well it's cheap, you could have it as backup, but shouldn't you look for stuff to go for bigger fish first if you only have one rod?
>>
>>2873806
Yes. I caught one on a dry, when the light was hitting the water just right that I decided to pull out my 4w lift. The rest were caught on various nymphs on my 3w euro rod. It's tight up there for the 10' euro rod. I have to figure out the best angle to cast to hit the water I want to target without getting caught in the trees. I still lost 5 flies to trees above and a branch below the water.
>>
>>2873862
>The rest were caught on various nymphs on my 3w euro rod.
I just put a 3 WT DT line on my 3 WT euro rod. It casts pretty well. I have yet to fish it, but I'm very glad that I bought it. When I want to fish dries, I'll just take my euro leader off and switch to a regular leader.
>>
>>2873878
Sounds like a nice setup. Let me know how it fishes. I might be interested in putting something like that together too.

That’s the easiest one for me to make without splitrings, however right now I’m wrestling with putting the tiny fly hook on the far right one too.
Then I can go out and compare all these hook styles and pick the best one.
The only issue is I can’t put the fly hooks on the metallic barrel weighted ones, since they are too long to slide up the shaft and rehook, so I’m hoping the far left one works good enough.

Going out to the lake later this week. I've never been successful fly fishing on still water. What flies should I tie/bring? I've got lots of wooly buggers, a couple articulated flies and a good variety of dry flies and nymphs. I'll be going out on an inflatable raft. So I'll have the opportunity to fish both from that and the shore. I'm planning on bringing my 9' 6w echo and maybe my 10' 3w euro rod. Lake is cold, clear water, rocky. There are bass, sunfish, crappie, rainbow, brown and lake trout, chinook and kokanee salmon and a few others. The salmon will likely be too deep for me to target. They're usually fished by trolling spoons on down riggers. Same goes for the larger trout. But I've caught smaller ones from the shore on spin tackle.

Well I fucked up the wire while reassembling but I think I salvaged it.

Woooo! First ditch pickel! Today, I mostly drove around. I was checking out rivers I haven't fished, water that I knew wouldn't be good today but hoped would be. Thus, it took me a long time to reach my planned destination. This was the first time I brought bass spinning gear to this region, a part of the state I frequently fish with fly gear.
I get one bite, ripped my Keitech off. I get another bite and hook up. Reel in the pike. I was elated. This has been a goal fish of mine for years. Fucked up the handling, which I regret.
Afterwards, I caught a smallie. Nothing after that. Fished before a storm and didn't fish long.

The best Panther Martins are the ones with metallic blades and painted weights, black and gold and yellow and red. These really the only ones you could ever need. White is nice, and so is brown trout. Holographic ones are nothing special.
I don't always use a spinner, but when I do, it's a Panther Martin.

They look decent. My only concern would be losing fish because of the small eye of the hook getting fouled on the wire weird and giving them a bunch of leverage. thats the main reason i like the one hook better, the open eye.

Id throw big wooly buggers or the articulated flies along weed edges looking for bass. If you can find sunfish, they are usually eager to come up for dry flies.

This is the first I've had break to a fish shaking its head, but the third or fourth one I've had break in the same location after a decent amount of use.

I'm having dinner and will be headed out again in a bit. I'm the shop guy, and my coworker, a masculine black lesbian has a great many sugar daddies. One of them gave her an Orvis Helios 3D 5 WT and a Mirage reel. I've tried to get her to go out and use it, but she hasn't consented to a lesson, despite it being a few weeks. Anyway, she lent it to me, and I fished it today. I was fishing a small stream poorly suited to such a big rod—didn't catch anything with it. However, I did noodle a sculpin.

Nice bows anon. Looks like stockies? What type of water body did you catch them in? River? Pond? Lake? What did you catch them on?

there's no wild trout near that size around me
i just use red worms, and it's a big pond, a big deep pond
>>
>>2874207
Its trighy for sure, some stars have to align just right
>visibility
If you cant see the carp you're probably not going to catch it
>active feeding
If the fish isnt actively feeding, casting at it is more often than not a waste of time (periodic cicada hatches are an acception)
>delicate presentation
If your fly hits the water too hard, you spook the fish
>stealth
If you move too fast, or line over a fish, or bump the fish with your fly, or a bird flies a little too low, or an acorn falls off a tree and in to the water, or any number of other inane stupid annoying bullshit happens, the carp will spook
>detecting the bite
Even if you do everything right, if you dont detect the bite you dont get the fish. Honestly half the time it feels like some 6th sense bullshit where i dont even feel or see the take but something in me tells me i have to set the hook and wham ive got a perfect corner of the mouth hookup seemingly by dumb luck
>>
>>2874204
Not sure on daiwa but if you have to spend more than $20ish usd for the eagle claw to import it’s not worth it probably (I paid $12 4 years ago), though idk how much the other rods you’re looking at compare or what the market is like over there

i just got this old 2 hander set up by a pro. im not so well into fly fishing that i can match line to rod so i paid someone to do it. rod is hørgård, probably 50 years old, reel is one i found that looked period correct. then i paid a store to set it up for big trout, small salmon and pike. i only used it twice, it can be used single handed but its best double handed. and its an exercise, you dont fap that day your hand is wasted.
>>
>>2874219
>>2874218
Getting in to fly fishing is admittedly more expensive than spinning gear but whoever told you to buy those is a knob.

If you want high end entry level, buy an echo lift kit; its got a rod, reel, and line for under $200.

If you're properly broke, you can still get in cheap with an eagle claw fly rod. <$40 for the rod, <$30 for a reel, and $20-$30 for a fly line.

As for the costume, you dont need it, throw on some crocs and wet wade if its not cold, or fish from the shore i caught my carp >>2874203 without setting foot in the water
Like i said, admittedly more expensive than spinning gear, but i got my start in fly fishing while i was working part-time at mcdonalds for minimum wage

fly fishing is the one type of fishing where its worth to pay up. your line is the casting weight and it needs to match your rod and skill level. if not you might a well throw furballs in the toilet.
>>
>>2874230
Good gear makes it easier but you can literally use 550 cord as a skagit head and mason line as a running line and two hand cast with a surf rod

>If you want high end entry level, buy an echo lift kit; its got a rod, reel, and line for under $200.
Ha! Or so you think. Lift Kits are now $250. They've been that price for almost a year.
Prices have gone up. There's no need to single out fly fishing for being way to high when you're comparing it to spinning prices of many yesteryears ago. Sure, you can get a dogshit fly kit on TEMU for $40. I don't care if $25 was a weeks pay back in your day. Fly fish or don't; I don't much care. Just stop bitching in the manner you are.

Well, the weather was pretty nice. Unfortunately, it was super windy though. I did try casting several setups, but the wind was just too much for me with my level of fly fishing experience. Fortunately, I did bring a spinning setup with some spinners and spoons. I should have brought a couple swim baits too, but was really planning on focusing on fly fishing, so the spinning setup was a just in case. Spent all day at the lake. Spent most of the day back in a little cove with a good shade tree. Only tree that close to shore for as far as I could see. I got a couple bites but nothing that hooked up. Once it got up into the low 100s I spent most of the mid day swimming or hanging out on the beach. Headed back to the car as the sun was starting to lower, around 6:30. By the time I got back to the car, the sun was behind the mountains and the fish were active. I passed several people fishing from shore catching bass. I spent about an hour throwing two different panther martins, gold blade, black with yellow spots and silver blade, yellow black dots. Tried a couple different spinner baits gold willow with chartreuse and white skirts in a couple sizes and then finished with a silver spoon. Nada.... Meanwhile, as I'm loading up, a dad and his kid show up and pull two 15in spotted bass right out of where I was just fishing. They were using soft plastic shad swim baits. Just didn't have what they wanted. Oh well. It was still very impressive to see those two being caught. Good day on the lake. Hopefully I have better luck next time.
