I've thought about getting into bow hunting, I'd get a longer deer hunt season, and I have a friend who gets a lot of hogs near his land and a bow wouldn't alert the neighbor's dogs like the .308 does.
>>2875341It gets addicting and you'll eventually won't want to hunt with anything else because of the challenge bow hunting gives. You do have to get closer and getting the perfect shot is much harder than with a rifle. You have to learn discipline that firearms hunting doesn't teach you, and you'll start taking your time to get that perfect shot and when you do it makes the payoff so much more fulfilling.

>>2877447Yes, I haven't taken one yet, but I find most of the sign to be around places where you find forage wild blueberries, grapes, persimmons, etc. Some ridgelines have more sign and scat than anything else. just keep scouting, spot and stalk, or if you're in a place that allows bait.
>>2877695No bait, this will be late october so soft mast is probably gone by then. The area I'm going to scout are Oak/Hickory ridges that also have a pond on the ridge with a creek several hundred feet below, it's public and far away from people. Quite a hike just to get where I want to be.
>>2877734Sounds like a good plan, I've spoken to many hunters who have taken bears and all mentioned spot and stalk as the preferred method of hunting them if not baiting. Make sure you're pretty knowledgeable about where their lungs and heart are for the optimal shot.

any reccomendations on a minimalist compound bow? i have a nice traditional longbow i like loosing arrows at a range and in the back paddocks with but i cant exactly get "consistent" accuracy on it without dumping another thousand hours into learning every single intricate detail about how and why im going wrong so i think i might give compounds a go as i can outfit a compoud with things like a sight and range markers for hopefully more consistent hits and ease of use but i see videos and pictures of compounds and it just looks like an absolutely bulky disaster ready to snag on the local australian bush and just fking shred itself instantly is there any type or make of compound that is>small>not shit fking everywhere ready to catch>preferably compactable or easily attached to a hiking bag as i go for solo camps and hikes when hunting the local pigs>40-65 lbs draw weight as i cant pull much more than thatunsure if this is a neccesary for a compound but i dislike the "hehe use this trigger mechanism to release the string" id rather just use my fingers with a glove if possible either that or has anyone tried the sights attachments like picrel that go onto longbows and recurves? im hesitant to buy it as it might do certifiably fuck all for accuracy and is just a meme purchase
Got this used for 500 bucks at scheels. Never hunted anything with a bow yet but damn the rabbits in the backyard are asking for it.
