Even way down here the air was full of thick smoke for a couple days, with warnings telling people not to go outside because of how bad the air quality was. This is causing erratic rain patterns, where more rain is dumped in short times and the time between rainfalls is longer and the soil stays drier for longer. And it is causing higher winds. These 2 combine to turn a small, local, fire, quickly put out instead becomes a large fire that burns of control and destroys the town.There are also other factors : housing trends, population density, budget cuts, land management, etc.

>>2876451I'm further east then you, in Québec. We get smoke from Manitoba, Ontario or even North Québec wildfires every few years. Smoke getting from northern Québec to Estrie is surprising, because the wind basically never blows due south. A smoke plume stretching 1000 miles is not surprising nor particularly exceptional.
