What's the best form of self defense you can get outside of a firearm? I've been looking at things like high powered CO2 kinetic round launchers and lower powered pepper ball launchers, but I'm not entirely sure that kind of thing would be effective at stopping much of any kind of threat.I'd like to think the pepper balls would be more effective at stopping a human threat, maybe there isn't a kinetic round launcher out there that's powerful enough to work without being just a gun. I'd also like to ward off wild animals and violent dogs. Any ideas?

>>2875594Contact stun guns will not incapacitate afaik, maybe if you put them on the neck. We can do that with tasers, it's called a drive stun and it just causes pain to the area it touches. The sound and even the pain can be deterrent but they won't incapacitate. You want a probe spread to incapacitate through NMI (neuro muscular incapacitation). The person will actually not be able to use their muscles so they go stiff and fall down.I carry a taser with two shots, so you only get two chances, and as others have said too they don't always work. That being said I've used mine two times and it was effective both times, once on a big dog.There are newer models where you have more shots and thus more chances at a good probe spread. Look up the areas that should be targeted for good probe spread, generally advised to split the beltline so one probe on the torso and one in one of the legs.It's a big thing to carry, even the Taser Pulse which is meant to be for everyday carry. Then again so is a proper sized OC can. I don't carry any less lethals off duty, just my fists, a knife, and gun. Must be a pain in the ass to be weak and afraid to kill someone. But hope the advice at least helps.
