I went on a hike last week with some friends and holy fuck, never again. The whole thing became a photoshoot, non stop picture taking, I've never been so uncomfortable during a hike.
>>2875316I can enjoy both but yeah I prefer hiking or walking in the city alone. You can disconnect and relax much better alone, with people you have to continually talk about something and if you are with annoying people like the ones you said constantly asking about things or taking photos or saying stupid things in general it becomes unbearable.
I embrace being a hermit and I've become content with it. Both /out/ and in everyday life.
>>2875316>lacks a working theory of mind so the idea that different people can have different goals and definitions for something is shocking and not something to be inquired about with the other persons involved during the planning stage.
>>2875316Going for a hike with someone isnt hiking. Its hanging out wit a friend in the woods. Its a different thing and are completely different experiences.
>>2875316Get other friends
>>2875319>open this thread>see this pic>check my PC's clock>3:28
>>2875316>The whole thing became a photoshoot, non stop picture takingSounds like my kind of hike. All I do is take photos, even when I hike solo
>there are outdoor activities that you're not allowed to do alone
My friends arent photo types, id say theyre great people to take hiking and they usually know how to have fun, climb logs, examine plants, etc. I wish I did more with them but I moved away and in my most active hiking years they only came a handful of times. Now I hike with my gf who doesnt take many photos she hates phones (hippy)
>>2875316>woke up yesterday wanting to see nature>took an hour long ride into the woods>remained there alone without any phone for the whole day>didn't eat anything apart from random rasberries I found there>returned late at nightbest hike of my life
>>2875316I like to hike alone for this reason because I like to take photographs and just sit and enjoy the scenery and look at the insects/plants/animals.
>>2875316I take tons of photos on a hike. It's helpful to have a broad catalogue of photos when you're trying to identify a plant in a new area later, especially if you don't want to sit there for 20 minutes. This does mean I'm going pretty slow though, since you can bump into a dozen or so unique species in a small area, so I'm used to that kind of pace. What about the photos on the hike made you uncomfortable? Was it the stopping and starting, or something else?
>>2875338>Going for a hike with someone isnt hiking Jesus fucking Christ. Shut your rancind incel trap up before someone domes your foreveralone ass out in the middle of nowhere and leaves you for the birds. Had it up to here with you mental invalids.
>>2877013Ive got friends and ive done hikes with them, small and big, ans ive done plenty of hikes alone. That why I have this opinion.
>>2877013Kek you got shut down.
>>2877014Nice. So, if that's true, you're just a mentally defective loser who has a "social battery" he needs to charge or some garbage like that? Nice. >>2877020Get a single friend.
You people should get over your social media contrarianism and take photos, not for others, but for yourself. Memory works with stimuli, and most of your memories are locked behind the right stimuli. If you try to just remember a trip from a while back you will only think of so much, but if you have photos you will find yourself remembering so much more, remembering how it felt or what you were thinking on the side of that slope, remembering the smells or physical feels of wind or sun or rain, remembering how terrible or great that section of trail felt.
>>2875316It was about the same experience for me going on a small trip to go hiking. These people were some of the lousiest friends I had so I don’t feel bad being this honest but one dude was a turbo weak. Spent his 25 years sitting on his ass playing video games being unemployed or doing WFH jobs behind a desk. His anatomy was fucked up severe duck feet. He had this fat pig girlfriend who would lie about having MS and other issues to avoid walking and get free shit like parking and priority onto planes. You already know how it went. They both started bitching 5 miles in, made the whole group turn back. The dude kept bragging about how much of an outdoorsman he was. Kept telling a fake story about how he got sent to Florida for some juvenile correction camp and how he had to fend for himself and hunt food in the Everglades (totally made up story btw he legit started quoting lines from “The Kay” about eating sea urchins lol). Kept talking about how he can’t stand rock stackers and all this shit like super liberal geek pretending to care about the environment for some virtue signal scheme levels of cringe. Which whether you like the rock stacks or hate them we can all agree that’s a classic talking point for these types of people even though they’ve never been more than a mile past parking anywhere. Dude spent the whole time making noise to scare bears away, spent the entire time insisting we needed to fight bears like not even joking dead serious (was a place with just black bears btw). I’ll never do that again unless I know they’re outdoorsy people who can hang and know wtf they’re doing. Oh yeah there was a point where his fat gf insisted she had fire experience so we let her build a bon fire what does this cow do? She plops sticks randomly in a pile douses it in 1/4th can of lighter fluid and uses a torch lighter lmfao.
>>2877147There was even a point where the guy started begging other dudes to give up their jackets for his gf to be warmer but wouldn’t take his own off. They each had no joke 8 layers in 45° weather I was in 2 layers and he demanded I give his ugly slampig my jacket and got upset that I didn’t lol. Mind you guys, these weaks wanted to call it quits 5 miles in and I was doing just fine being out of shape for 2 years with a previously sprained ankle and bone on bone knees
whoa you have friends?
>>2877121Its pretty clear you are the one who's mentally defective with a reaction like that
>>2877126When I do hikes I take tons of photos. I never share any of them aside from when its specifically brought up in some context. It really is just a personal photo album.
>>2877147>The dude kept bragging about how much of an outdoorsman he was. Kept telling a fake story about how he got sent to Florida for some juvenile correction camp and how he had to fend for himself and hunt food in the Everglades I went out with a friend who did something similar. He would always tell this story about how back when he was in boy scouts, him and the other Scouts had to navigate back to a certain location in a forest using hand tools with no map, and he was always the one to be able to do it the fastest. he just said he had a really great sense of direction. So we went on a hike in Colorado, and we went off Trail above the tree line, and then at some point we had to find the trail again, and despite being above tree line, and they're being no large visual obstructions, and there being mountains all around us so we had massive visual landmarks, he could not find where the trail was again. so apparently this guy can navigate in dense woods but he can't navigate in an open field. He also said only after we were already on the trip, that he came out mostly because he wanted to practice for when the end times comes and he has to live out in wilderness. The trip ended with him getting sunburn on his feet so bad, from taking a nap with his feet in a creek, that he ended the whole trip early so he could go home. It was a nightmare
>>2875316i always hike alonewhen i rarely take some friends with me its always lets not go by the map lets just walk along the roads or trails and lets take the most boring and easy route possible just to get it done with and why did we take this detour just to fish when we brought all this food with uswhen i go innawoods i go looking for some adventure and hardship to conquer not to spend a few pleasant days outside to break the tedium of nine to five and make it into some social media spectacle once or twice per yeari get that to some people spending an actual night at the woods is very special thing they dont get to experience very often and they have to make it into a big deal when to some that is just a normal day not to be documented
>>2875316The only non-fag about it died in a motorcycle accident, he was 23. We'd sleep out in all these management areas when we technically weren't supposed to be there. Good guy.
>>2877381the concept that wildlife management areas/state hunting lands generally totally ban camping is retarded and good on you for ignoring thatI hope that changes
>>2877147These two sound unbearable but I will say if they're loaded up with camping gear (probably way heavy stuff at that) and don't get out much then five miles can feel pretty hard, especially through terrain that has inclines.I've had a couple of girls literally in tears after shorter walks that have some hills, without any load. They get tired and really emotional because they don't know how far the end is.
>>2877401>They get tired and really emotional because they don't know how far the end is.give them alltrailsit gamifies walking and tells you how many minutes and miles you have to go and visualizes the remaining hills and distanceit helps psychologicallyalso you probably did a much harder trail than ur letting on I mean easy for you, but not for them, and you probably refused to slow down your pace at all.
>>2877401Agreed, these are consequences of letting them off when they pick the habit of quitting early, its not that women can't, its just that they give up without pushing themselves to their absolute limits.
i just got back from my pct thruhike and these fucking "new age" "outdoorsmen" are so gay.>walking around with little tiny backpacks>carrying fucking no food>walking 40 miles a day>weigh about 100 pounds soaking wet>sleeping on the ground with no tent>no stove>carrying around a fucking vapeidk how you can be around these faggots, if some asshole starts hiking with me i just walk slow as shit or stop and tell him to go ahead. The worst part is they will make it known how much better they think they are than you, i love these trails cause they are very long and you can basically be homeless on them, but its gotten very oversaturated with normie scum doing it for the gram' perchance.
worse part they don't even take any candid photos, ever picture is carefully calculated and taken with precision. NO FUN ALLOWED !!I went on hike with a group from uni and they stopped every 10 seconds for a picture and each photo shoot took like 15mins because they are so obsessed with getting the perfect angle and lightning. At the end of the trip when I asked them to send the pics all of the pictures looked like souless group photos they take at work for corporate.
