I grew up in a non-/out/ family but became an /out/ist, primarily an angler. I'm buying a Passport, and one reason for buying this car is so that I can haul my fishing shit and sleep in it. I don't like "enjoying cozy moments with a freshly brewed cup of cruelty-free coffee". I'm fishing all day and eating dehydrated food or something from a gas station. I don't want to fuck around with a tent either. Fish then sleep.
I don't have wood working experience. How hard would it be to make a drawer system I can sleep on top of and also easily access my spare tire?

Easiest would be to use plastic totes/Roughnecks. Building a raised platform with zero woodworking experience isn't a hard thing. My advice is keep it as simple as possible.

That would be very simple, but I'd like to have drawers. I've been thinking about buying a Yakima drawer system as it is. The problem with the Yakima option is money and size (too small and too small to sleep on).

post this on /diy/, they know their material.

I've slept in cars professionally. the kinds of drawers you are thinking of, where the trunk needs to open to get at your inventory, is not the sort of arrangement you want to have in your vehicle. It immediately tells the neighbourhood you are a pseudo homeless man and that creates later problems.

You only need a slab half the width of the one your picture shows. Then you put the drawers underneath that nestled so you can access them.

I'm not camping in neighborhoods. This would exclusively be for state and county land, maybe, maybe the occasional truckstop. I won't sleep in my car often, but I will use it on fishing trips very often, hence why I want to open from the trunk.
Thanks for the /diy/ recommendation.
