Not exactly but its really close, as best as i can measure the tail is about .005-.007 inches thicker but i think it will be serviceable. I might try to find a way to pull the alignment pins and lap it a couple thousandths thinner with a piece of glass and some increasingly fine wet/dry sand paper. Spent all day yesterday dropping a friend's luggage off and buying a new car. New car will improve my fishing experience by allowing for a fly rod carrier and trailer. I was pretty tired, and I'm pretty laid back when it comes to fishing, so I didn't spend much time on the water today.
First spot I went to was an UPPER portion of the creek. Like the first time I was there, no trout. Instead of shiners, I caught chubs. Including this monster. I also caught a few minnows and a crayfish. Water temp was 75.
In the LOWER portion, I measured the temp to be 65. That was only a couple hours apart. Last time, the lower section was clean after a rain event, and the upper was muddy. I think there has to be more spring activity in the lower part of the creek, which is counterintuitive and atypical. I caught a weird-looking stocker rainbow with orange on its belly.

Yeah nah taking it off is way easier than putting it on. That said, im a machinist, and ive buffed and lapped parts in to tolerance before so im not too intimidated by the prospect of lapping a couple thou off these mold plates. Legit the hardest part is going to be pulling the alignment pins, they're really stubby and i dont want to mar them. Maybe i mark their location, drill through the aluminum, then once i hit steel get a punch involved and tap it out. Otherwise i gotta come up with a way to grab and pull. Maybe i could drill/tap the tip of the pin for something small like a 10/24 and use a screw and a slide hammer? But this is all *if* at the moment, i think they might be good where they are. Im also considering getting a softer plastic, which unfortunately would make them more fragile, but given how cheap it is to make a dozen, and that i can recycle the plastic a couple times, im not too worried about losing tails more frequently.

that will 100% foul up sometimes. been there tried that. tie a proper uni knot and it will cast properly every time. the only time those types of spinners don't run right is if you have a bouyant soft plastic trailer on it that fucks it up, or sometimes no trailer at all fucks it up if you reel to fast. spinnerbaits all look pretty much the same but there vary wildly in how good they actually run at different speeds.

If oiling, don't take it apart. Just put some purpose built oil on the shaft and run the reel a few times. Then, put some on the bail lever and the line roller and work it in.

i'd use jigheads with soft plastics over hard lures, it's cheaper and more forgiving, also don't make you rant on 4chan as much when you loose one as it's relatively expendable

line depends on the size of your reel, stiffness of your rod, what kind of lures you want to use effectively, and if your target fish are toothy. for example you don't want to put thick heavy line on a 2500 spinning reel, it will have way too much memory. you also don't want thick heavy line with certain lures, they will run lke shit. Especially certain hardbaits with lips. Trilene XL is pretty good mono because it's soft, but 15lb is much thicker and heavier than you want on a normal sized spinning reel. It actually breaks way higher than 15lb anyways. something like 8lb is as big as I'd go on a spinning reel unless it's a big reel for surf fishing or catfishing. Yo-Zuri Hybrid is also a good line but it's thicker than the equivalent poundage of mono. the advantage being it has less stretch than nearly all mono so it's more sensitive. you can get 600yd bulk spools for 10 bucks.

braid+leader will be a million times more sensitive than even the least stretchy flouro as a mainline. flouro having less stretch and being more sensitive than mono on average is a complete meme. trust me. flouro is also more expensive than braid if you're talking the good stuff. the only real downside to braid is if you don't like tying on a leader. slight chance of getting a wind knot, and some noise. that's it. considering you're mostly finesse fishing it's almost a no-brainer to go for the superior sensitivity of braid. just make sure you buy decent braid. sufix 832, jbraid grand x8, etc. 10-15lb. alternatively, if you just want to try straight flouro, tacklewarehouse currently has Shimano Mastiff FC on sale for $10. I don't know if it's being discontinued or what, it's only a couple of years old so that's strange. It's nice and soft, I'm currently using 4lb on my bfs setup.

Fluoro, mono, and braid all float pretty well. There's a reason why every respectable fly angler is using fluoro tippet for everything, including dry flies. You aren't getting down any faster with fluoro. We are talking about some heavy lead attached to a string. What kind of string you use won't matter unless that string is made of lead. The only thing you can do to improve sink rate is shift from 100 lb mono, a major drag, to 5 lb braid, much less impedance. Hopefully, you're only using heavy line because you need to not because you're retarded and delusional. Thin for the win.

Weightless soft plastics.
I can see the mono floating on the water and sure it slowing sinks on the lure side of the line but the problem is on long casts. I can't feel many of the strikes I get because 90% of the line is still floating and essentially slack. When I do feel the strike it is delayed and I miss the hook set. When I do hook up I'm losing fish during the fight because the stretchy mono and my delayed reaction is producing a shitty hook set.

If my entire line had a tendency to sink with the lure instead of trying to float that would draw a more straight line from rod to lure. More sensitivity, faster reaction time, less line stretch and hopefully more fish landed.

I was using 4/0 to 6/0 for macks. Macks are naturally big bait though and yt sometimes grab the mack sideways and hold it in its mouth to crush it first like a dogbone before re-position the mack to take it in. My hook is at the nose so it wouldn't hook the yt in thar position. I usually wait a few sec to pull on the fish but there is no guarantee that the yt will already take the whole mack in by the time I set the hook

I am considering it but not quite sure yet. On one hand, it makes hook up easier. On the other hand, the set up is probably a bit weaker during the fight and messier to unhook, especially from a kayak. Yellowtails are serious fighters so people tend to go with the mentality of using the simple and most reliable set up to handle that extended fight at max power do you either don't enter the fight at all with a fail hook up or enter it in the best chance/position to win instead of hook up and then lose the fight after wasting 10 min fighting the fish. Trap rig set up is more popular for really poor fighting fish like halibut

I think he is just bluffing fucking with you about the sekrit tech or bait. Fishing spots and locations are the only true secret in fishing and it is hush hush for a good reason. Technique and baits are so widely shared and you can easily find that info with a cursory search. Also, technique and baits are very subjective as well and most people just stick to their comfort zone, of even what they find cool or fun to fish with, rather than what truly effective. Noone really goes through thousands of baits options and do a thorough experiment to figure what work the best.

Got this for free because they blew the seam, spent about two weeks sealing and curing and slapped some flex tape on after just in case, it holds air/my weight just fine so far.

Gonna take it out to the river once I get a life jacket. I don't trust glue and tape THAT much. New fishing spots will be hype though.

Another question: is it smart to use groundbait to lure predatory fish? I was thinking what if I don't want to catch baitfish, but use a possible commotion of baitfish to lure in predators to the area and catch them?

It depends. Jerkbait, crankbait - not really. It will mess with the tuning and disrupt the action. Softbait - fine, but you could just buy a powerbait softbait. Plus, many are already scented. Inline spinner - they make some with durable scent embedded in the hook.

Brothers, a man needs help. The pond I have been fishing probably too much (to at least some overpressure) hasn't given me a single bite in the past 2 days over the course of ~2 hours each night. Last thing I got was this chunkier bass (for southern new england small pond standards). I've noticed there's less surface action overall, and thought it's because of the increased heat in region rn. I used to toss a glow corky on a bare hook into current and catch salmon at night. If you have an oldschool camera flash you can instantly charge glow baits with one flash too, always used to have one in my bag until I lost it.

What do you guys do about crowded spots such as a pier? I like to fish alone. It’s not that I’m worried about other people “stealing” the fish I just genuinely prefer solitude and fishing is kind of a therapy for me to go be alone with nature. I just went to a small pier I’ve been wanting to try and I turned back the second I saw it had people on it. I just wanna be able to go be alone while I fish. I also don’t get people who if they show up to the spot you’re already at having to stand shoulder to shoulder with you or within 5 feet of you when there’s legit plenty of room for them to go set up 10 feet away if not 50 feet more, do these people see it as a social thing or do they just think it increases their odds? I’ve experienced this at piers and ponds and the beach and even canals so often that I turn around when a spot is overcrowded like today. Shoulda got there earlier I suppose

For pelagic fish like spanish mackerel, jack crevalle etc. you're pretty much chasing schools when on a pier. When one person hooks up you see everyone swarm that spot. It's pretty common.
