>>2879577This is not true. This is old thinking thats stuck in traditional hiking culture. If you have trained legs then you can hike most of these mountains in sandals. And no, you dont have to carry heavy, people are just too used to 5kg rucksack, 2kg sleeping bag, 3-4kg tents, and 1.5kg sleeping mat + pad, and then a bunch of food and clothing you dont need.

>>2880114Where do you hike?I live at 70 degrees north, we can get sudden snow storms in the summer, especially at elevation.You need to carry extra shit in case shit happens, that equals a heavier pack.I and most people here hike along sheep tracks and overgrown trails that are not planned or in any way maintained.In boulder fields like that, even with well trained legs and feet, one wrong step when tired can get you stuck in the middle of fucking nowhere, maybe without mobile service as well.
