Yak wool and alpaca wool are good but ultimately too fragile to be used alone and need to be blended with merino and some spandex to make a proper sock.
I was always under the impression that wool is antibacterial and hence can be worn for longer without health issues. AI however told me that this isn't actually the case and it only smells less. Does anyone have experience with that matter?

I've had mine for about 15 years now, and I can't complain about their prices for a pure wool blanket, but they are definitely more of a rough budget feel compared to premium brands. I usually double layer them for warmth even when sleeping at home.By memory the Alafoss have a similar weave and hand feel to Pendleton or HBC 4-point, but I think are a bit fluffier and would weigh less. I don't own the Pendleton or HBC but have looked at them in shops. A single layer of the Alafoss blanket feels about as warm as two layers of the MacA. Icelanders claim the warmth and fluff is a unique property of their sheep wool as opposed to the processing, I don't know if that's true but it's possible. They also don't put a lot of effort in antibacterial synthetics, but stress that you need to keep the skin dry.
