Bivi general for my fellow bodybag enjoyers.I recently got my hands on a dutch army bivibag and I got to test it in quite heavy rain.Everything looked dry but where a puddle formed, the sleeping bag was completely drenched.I was used to using Norwegian army bags in snow without issue, and I learning with a TF1522 bivibag that in rain they aren't waterproof.Now I hoped that I could use the bivibag for a minimalist trip without tarp.Can this be fixed with a DWR spray, or do I really have to use a tarp?
spotted one of these for really cheap at the thrift market but feel like it'd need some special snowflake poles since those were missing

>>2879077Membranes aren't fully waterproof, especially if there is abnormal pressure like when a puddle is formed. I'm not sure that would be enough to drench what is underneath. If you bought it used the membrane might be damaged. The oldest ones are from over twenty years ago. Is it from Fecsa or Carinthia? The Carinthia ones are the oldest. If the membrane is damaged DWR will only help in a drizzle.
>>2879252It seems to be the Fecsa and I do not see any wear or damage om the outer or inner surface. I just got some dwr spray to try. I’ll apply it today and test it when it has dried in a few days.I’ll also fill up the bag like I’m inside to prevent most puddles.
>>2879193One reason is bugs but you'd be better off with a mosquito net. Much lighter than a bivy. Honestly though, there's a reason people use tents. They're only a few pounds.
