anyone else here who can't sleep outdoors? I've been staying in a tent on 5 different nights during hikes, and not a single one of these nights could I get any sleep.

It's weird because there was a sixth night I was in a tent, way back in 2021, when I did get some sleep. not during the night, mind you, because I was new and underprepared and was shivering from cold during the whole night. but when the sun came up and the temperature increased, I was able to sleep 2 hours in the morning. and in 2022 I tried sleeping in a Haven tent (lie-flat hammock, pic related), and in this I slept great the entire night.

I've tried varying the amount of air in the matress, from fully inflated to somewhat soft, but this had no effect on my sleep. would be nice to hear if anyone else have dealt with the same and found a solution.

No.

I sleep just fine in a tent, but I have to say, as a stomach sleeper, the concept of a flat bottomed hammock tent has me intrigued. I always ruled out hammocks because you can sleep on your stomach in them. I do too much desert camping for this to make sense taking up space in my car though. Not enough big trees around to use it, plus it's hard to find a good spot to set up my solar panels if there are too many trees around.

If your problem was being too cold or uncomfortable you probably benefited from being up off the ground because that will stop the cold from the ground transferring to you. I car camp so I have a platform and a memory foam mattress I put inside my tent that keeps me up off the ground. I also don't fuck around with sleeping bags. They are too claustrophobic feeling. I just use blankets and sheets like normal.

I never liked sleeping on the ground, love my hammocks though. First one didnt have a underquilt so i froze but the new one does so all good. I string my old sleeping bag across the top guide string to make a top quilt if I need it. Comfy as fuck.

I have not tried a flat laying hammock yet.

I can't really relate because I sleep like a hibernating bear when I'm /out/ but I do need to cover my eyes. Where I live sunrise is as early as 04:00 and its workably light from 03:00; so I'll either keep waking up from the light for the last 2-5 hours of sleep in my tent/tarp or wakeup with a splitting headache. Produces a sort of hungover feeling in me purely based on wakeup conditions.

In summer I solve this by using one of those sleeping masks I got on a plane, and in winter I sleep in a beanie hat I pull down over my eyes. When I do this I sleep better than I do at home, whether I'm in a tent on a campsite, wildcamping, or on a deployment exercise.

My system was always
>Try to hydrate 2hrs before sleeping and always piss before getting in.
>If you're not actively warm before going to bed, eat a small snack to provoke your body temperature to increase.
>Make sure your feet, legs, wrists, shoulders, neck and head stay warm in your sleeping bag. There are many tips on how to do this by utilising garments in unusual ways.
>tuck hands into armpits or down crotch and hold your balls (helps stay warm but also a self-comforting action that lets you relax.
>any mong can rough it - if it annoys you now it will still annoy you when you wake up or can't sleep. Just fix it now.
>>
>>2879523
You have to condition your standards to be lower. Try staying up 36-48 hours, you'll eventually sleep on the ground and overtime it'll get easier to fall asleep
>>
>>2879523
when /out/ my sleep is always very light and I keep waking up few times per night.
but I don't feel fucked up in the morning, so I guess it's alright
>>
>>2879523
So do you mean you can't sleep outdoors or can't sleep on the ground? There's a distinction.
>>
>>2879802
yeah maybe. I'm gonna give the hammock a few more tries and see if I can sleep consistently in it
>>
Is it because of the cold? You sleep better if it's warm
>>
>>2879523
You fell for those meme ads. Should have gotten a real hammock, like DD with under quilt and a tarp (hanged a-shaped with closed doors)
>>
>>2880993
>You fell for those meme ads.
hardly. I saw bridge (flat) hammocks mentioned in some outdoors book and started my research from there, took a while before I found the haven tent.
>>
>>2880964
that was only a problem early on, got a pretty nice down quilt now + double matresses and I sleep in wool underclothes, so I don't freeze in the temps I camp in
>>
>>2879523
so you haven't explained at all WHY you can't sleep. other than the one mention of being cold.

is it because you're usually too cold?

or do you have sleep apnea or something?

do you have trouble lying on the ground?

are you a side sleeper? or back? or Stomach?

have you tried sleeping pads ?

what clothing do you wear when you're going to bed ?

do you have some sort of general anxiety condition outside of this?

you gotta give more info than "hey once or twice i could sleep"
>>
>>2881242
Thats kind of the question here anon. Obviously OP doesnt know
>>
>>2881245
he doesn't know if he sleeps on his side, back, or stomach?

he doesn't know if he's tried sleeping bags?

he doesn't know what clothes he sleeps in?

he doesn't know if he has any sort of general anxiety?

he doesn't know if hes USUALLY too cold?

he doesn't know if he's got sleep apnea?
DO YOU READ BEFORE RESPONDING?
>>
>>2881242
>is it because you're usually too cold?
no
>or do you have sleep apnea or something?
no
>do you have trouble lying on the ground?
I don't feel like it is uncomfortable or anything, no
>are you a side sleeper? or back? or Stomach?
all
>have you tried sleeping pads ?
I use inflatable + foam
>what clothing do you wear when you're going to bed ?
wool underclothes or just underpants, depending on temps
>do you have some sort of general anxiety condition outside of this?
no
>>
Do you feel any sense of fear when going to sleep? For example: fear of the dark, fear of animals? If yes it might just be anxiety not letting your brain to shutdown. And also if it's a huge problem you can always just bring sleeping pills with you!
>>
>>2881477
he doesnt know WHY he cant fall aleep you retarded little redditfaggot. learn to read
>>
>>2881521
for me its just lack of comfy. i havenโ€™t felt like i slept well a night ever since starting using a sleeping bag. this thing is warm but very tight fit and pretty much no manufacturer publishes dimensions other than height and shoulder width which is the same for almost all of them
>>
>>2881620
I got a sleeping quilt (EE enigma) and it's pretty comfy since it's open in the back
>>
>>2881624
sounds good for summer and i would also sleep with the bag well open but the winter is coming so i need to be more careful to stay warm
>>

Imagine being a literal waste of space. What's this formatting? First day? Also you completely missed the point and then have the gall to get upset. You even write words in all caps like a screaming boomer. You clearly don't belong here.

i do i used ear plug or headphone when falling asleep but after a few night it matter less and less

>>2879533
same. im not a ground dweller, used hammocks but dont like the squish since i have broad shoulders and most a made for manlets.

might try a temu heaven tent clone one day. but at the moment im happy and sleep very very good i actally love sleeping in my yard.

thin mats are not comfy since im not used to sleep on hard terrain so im senstive for slopes and bumps. and i move a lot during sleep so i slide off. never got used to the half inflated poolfloat style.

its funny im somewhat ultra light in my gear but my sleep setup is like 4-5kg with pillow, mat, quilt but i sleep like the dead.

>fucking double reddit spacing
ok this tard must be baiting
>>
>>2879523
I wake up constantly to every little noise
If the loons are making noise at night then I can't sleep at all.
Also I don't have a great warm weather mattress or pad so not super comfy

Same. The reason why I don't go out much is because I never get a restful sleep out there by myself. That hammock thing also has happened to me a bunch. You're going to realize those are shitty ultralite memes for people who do not value their personal security or comfort in the night. Get a tent, get one that's big enough to give you some buffer from whatever decides to nuzzle your tent in the night. You'll thank me.

When I talked to out they said you should get drunk so you would sleep. I think today I would just use a big dose of glycine. To feel reassured you need a group of two other woods buddies for your days in the bush as well
