If your right handed, should you buy a left handed or right handed baitcaster?
>>2879581the boomer way is to reel with your dominant/writing hand. they just started doing it and it became the norm. the proper, original jap way is to work the rod with your dominant hand and reel with your non-dominant hand. that's why most young people do it this way, unless they learned baitcasting from an early age from boomer dad/uncle/gramps. for a while, we had it good because the boomer logic made left handed reels heavily discounted, albeit harder to find... but now half of the people have switched over so it's no longer the case.
also, why would I want to switch the rod over to the other hand everytime I cast? the whole point of a baitcaster is that you can control the rate it hits the water, and start retrieving immediately if it's already in the right hand. not to mention, the boomers who use right handed reels often reel with the left hand when using a spinning rod anyways. they just choose to copy Boomer McBassmaster because he gets paid to fish on television.

>>2879581Just go to a store and fuck with reels that retrieve on either side until you figure out what feels best.Me personally, I get the point about feeling with your left hand so you can start your retrieve quickly, but it just doesn’t feel right, and I’m fast enough with switching hands that I’m almost always ready to reel by the time I need to start.It’s really not hard, and there aren’t that many cases where you even need to start your retrieve as soon as your lure hits the water. Come to think of it, I think the only lure I do that with is a buzz bait.Everything else I either let it sink some or let it sit where it landed briefly if it floats.
