That whole edge of the unknown always makes things feel more dangerous. But camping is very knowable and being outside by yourself is probably some of the safest you’re ever going to be. Also if you’ve got a dog of any kind just bring ‘em. I’ve had my own dog since I was really young so it’s hard for me to imagine doing anything outside without a dog present. It’s really nice to outsource stuff like listening for rustles or watching out for weird smells to them. Also my current lab I taught to show me that way back to the trail from some off trail point. It’s useful because I tend to wander off the trail and forget because I was looking at plants/mushrooms.
