Palmer is a LARPer area, they depend entirely on anchorage imports, have a bortle scale 4 sky, and still have to drive 2-3hrs for good salmon runs. Seward has milder winters than most of the inland lower 48, and being on the Kenai you still have a 1-3 hr drive or boat trip to decent actual areas where you can out. If you've lived in the rural mountain west next to a NF, and lived on the Kenai or near the Chugach, you will almost always end up gravitating towards permanently settling the rural mountain west over AK.
